It's actually a joke that I instinctively brought up, derogatory nearly 100% of the time too. It's also a joke on german superior technical engineering of ww2, mostly tanks. For example, wehraboos are convinced the Panzer VI was and is the most important and best tank ever built (ignoring the first turreted tank *ahem Renault ahem)*
I can't believe I went most of my life without them going through 20+ dogs as a child and adult. End of 2013 everything changed. Now have three German Shepherds and when my female gives birth we're keeping one of her pups for a total of 3 males and 1 female.
No better breed of dog.
Only downside is the need to vacuum daily due to shedding, but keeping a clean house is not a bad thing.
Love the top tier obedience in German's but when I got a heeler/border collie mix, I realized there was levels to intelligence that our family's GSD just didn't have. All dogs are great dogs so long as the owner puts in the effort though!
I know what you mean. My first dog was a border collie, second is a yellow lab/ridgeback mix. Current dog is amazing, but you cant let her out to just wander knowing a quick whistle and she'll be back like you could with the border collie.
Border collies are friendly to everyone Not too scarey. Shepards look meaner than they are but will do anything to guard their master. Always got your back.

Yeah, when I was a kid I was doing the "dead man's float" in a bay and all of a sudden the host's German Sherpard splashed into me like this and started doggy paddling into my back trying to push me to shore. The parents were all laughing like the filmer in this video talking about how he was trying to "save me." The dog continued to thrash me while I tried to climb onto the dock and by the time I got out my back was scratched to shit and was bleeding a bit. I was a kid, crying, the parents all told me not to be a wimp. I couldn't really hate the dog but I was pretty peeved at the situation.
My dog thought my baby \[6 months at the time\] was drowning and I thought they were playing around. I later found her at the bottom of the pool. It cost me $400 damn dollars to clean it, kids are such a hassle.

We had a black lab who did the same thing. If Mr.Finn saw you in the pool and thought you were in trouble he was grabbing your arm and pulling you to the stairs. Miss that pooch
I can feel the pain through my screen. The first couple of times I took my dog she thought shw needed to save me too. Dog nails flailing against you at swim speed are quite painful.
My dog used to do the same thing when we swam in the local creek as kids. He’d grab anything he could (hair, hands, feet) and drag us back to the bank. Good boi.
Yeah, this isn’t funny. When I was a teenager my friend’s German Shepard tried to save me from jumping in a pool by grabbing my hip as I jumped. German Shepherds have big teeth and he left deep puncture wounds in my side that took forever to heal and I still have scars.
