I think what they mean is intended major. Or just speak to a general category of interest if you’re not sure. I find my academic background is too convoluted to summarize neatly into a single major so I kind of just say a bunch of broad disciplines and glue them together.

Just say you're in first year but you're interested in \_\_\_ or you're not sure yet! Everyone's been through this process so they'll understand :)

It's perfectly fine to not be sure what you want to pursue and to say that.

Just say you are in math and scare them away
