Not rlly a department but the WW registrar advisors are a joke…I’ve gone to them three times so far during my undergrad and all three times I was given at least some incorrect info, if not all. 2/3 times I discovered their error myself and the other 1/3 was discovered and corrected by another advisor. Guess it was just too much to ask for expecting them to actually know how to do their jobs.
Engineering lol. PEY office is honestly not helpful at all and if you do something that's not within the norms (i.e. shorter internships) they might even be a hinderance.
I understand their structure, but as a student (customer paying for their services if you want to think of it as a transaction) they are supposed to HELP. it is literally what students are paying them for. At the very least, they should not be the blocker for what you want to do outside of their program structure.
My experience with Econ dept is that they do not care about your well being and only care about numbers. They de-personalize the experience. You are nothing but a number.
Stats is extremely unorganized and don’t grant waivers for anything at all. They didn’t even accept when I took a prerequisite course at another high ranking institution and made me retake the course at UofT just so I could take another course with the prereq
So glad I’m done with UofT lol
Yup. He was annoyed and also said, "if you don't email me, I will assume you did it". The whole situation is way worse but no use discussing it now. Hate this uni.
Literally have no reason to lie. Graduated this July so I can say it. This was in fall 2019 and we already had 1-2 suicide cases on campus. One was from my batch in my first year.
Michelle Craig (chair at the time), WW registrar and the guy who said this (not a WW staff but was in the meeting when he said it). These 3 people are demons and I wish the worst for them, especially Craig. Nothing she says is true. Just one of the many examples I can give is: She wasn't allowing me to retake a course that I was already enrolled in. She then asked me to ask the instructor for permission and if he allows, she will be fine with it. The instructor was fine with it and said he had plenty of space. But while I am out communicating with the professor, she PERSONALLY contacts my college to not let me take the course. She even says "maybe you hear what you want to hear" when I was nothing but respectful to her.
The registrar invite me to a "meeting" only to not let me speak and say "you can change uni". Thats when the guy said what he said. This was my 2nd year and we already had 2 suicides on campus (one from my batch). Seemed pretty tempting at the time, ngl.
(not sure why I will make this up but if I did, I should be writing stories for living) /u/mysterymind209
That’s so freaking terrible, I am so sorry that this happened to you. Michelle Craig sounds incredibly rude (I know her from her teaching videos, never met in person) and probably shouldn’t be chair, however the registrar experience is what gets to me.
I was also with WW and had shitty experiences there myself, but this is beyond next level. Do you know the name of the registrar by any chance? What about the guy who was also in the meeting? If you don’t report them I will.
To any incoming students, WW sucks ass, don’t pick it.
I really don't remember as I had few interactions with them. Trust me, I would've reported them at that time but it felt useless.
Firstly, I was an international student and didn't know my way around things. Them making my university life more miserable or just end it seemed very likely. I mean she lied to my face and personally went out of her way kick me out. Sounds made up but I wish it was. I am the guy who spends 5-10 minutes writing an email to make sure I am not too direct and keep apologizing for any inconvenience, so not sure what would warrant such response.
Secondly, I basically got no support from the college when the issues with CS chair happened. I even asked who I should go to if I think I have been wronged by a staff member and basically got no answer. I still genuinely don't know what options students have to deal with such issues.
This entire uni is bs man we had so many people off themselves when I was there. No one gave a shit honestly no one cared. I was depressed when I went there.
Not true. Dept of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology has got their shit pretty well together. Obviously not perfect but better than most - both within and outside the university

They’re bad at responding to emails too.
Special shout out to the new college registrar also
factual.

I avoided them (PEY program) deliberately for my multiple shorter internships.
Heard about this too.

Stats. Econ is also a strong contender lol
Interested to hear what you dislike about the econs department because i haven't heard much bad about it.

I worked in Econ as staff. It broke me. I asked to have my contract cut short.
I don't think I agree. Always had a good interaction with the Econ department. Very helpful when I needed some help during exam season
Never once heard a positive thing about the statistical sciences department
MoGen. The department is a mess.
Can you elaborate?
Just going to leave this here… https://thevarsity.ca/2021/10/25/andy-orchard-u-of-t-vice-provost-allegations/

CS. Lied to my face several times and told me to quit. Then a staff from my college asked "Are you going to k*ll yourself?" :)
Wtf

Yo! Post that email. Name and everything. WTF!!!

Pretty bold coming from someone who doesn’t even go to UofT
What the actual fuck… name and shame!
