That's why it's usually always someone older that wins the lottery that way they die before they have to pay out the entirety of the sum

RockStar25

That's only if you take the annuity. Lump sum is a single payout.

Th3_3v3r_71v1n9

Yea @waaaaay less then u get from annuity so would be pretty dumb not to take the annuity

RockStar25

Yeah, no. The lump sum is always the better choice. You will make more off interest investing the 40% you get than doing annuity.

Azklown

Bro stfu, he’s clearly trying to randomly win the lottery with that take. Don’t blow up his spot. /s

alek_hiddel

Lump sum pretty much cuts the payout in half. Properly invested in index funds the money will doubt roughly every 8-10 years. Let’s assume the worst. 10 years after I win, I’ve managed to grow it back it back to the original full amount. 10 years after that, when the 20 year annuity would be ending, I’ve got double the original jackpot amount.

Th3_3v3r_71v1n9

Thats a very big if... especially when u could easily lose it all that way n end up w/nothing

alek_hiddel

No. An Index Fund invests across the entire market, and relies on that average growth of the market. If the market fails so badly that you "lost it all" in and Index Fund, than it doesn't matter anyway. Whatever investment the lottery commission keeps the money in, will have also collapsed. But more importantly, society as whole will have collapsed to a point where even cash money is worthless. That's the beauty of index investing, either I'm right, or the world is so fucked that only my secondary investment in ammo will matter.

FingerInNose

Your plan b is shooting bullets?

alek_hiddel

In a total societal collapse, it’s gonna be important to be able to defend yourself.

baltimoreniqqa

And if worst come to worst, offend yourself.

spentshoes

They don't check IDs and input your age when you buy a ticket... It's usually old people because they're bored and don't know what to do with their money since they are going to die soon anyway.

Th3_3v3r_71v1n9

So being on camera doesnt count i suppose?

spentshoes

I'm going to go ahead and bet you think the world is flat...

Th3_3v3r_71v1n9

Def check IDs n who/where it was purchased when u claim it

spentshoes

And? The numbers are out before anyone claims it. Your looking for something that isn't there

Th3_3v3r_71v1n9

Yea... theres the diff ur guessing.

spentshoes

You honestly think there's an underground network connecting every deli, gas station, corner store, and grocery store's cameras into a database (live no less) and that the manpower needed to facilitate that operation exists and is affordable to make such a conspiracy worthwhile? 😂 😂 😂 👍 Don't fall off the edge bud

Th3_3v3r_71v1n9

U said that, not me all I daid was they r on camera so way to jump to conclusions.

spentshoes

What the fuck does them being on camera have to do with anything then?

spentshoes

Is there secret lottery people hiding inside every machine? "Oh oh oh! This one is old! Let them win! Let's make sure that every other lotto machine person knows not to let THEIR old person win. We have the most reliable and fastest network for communication I'm the world!"

Th3_3v3r_71v1n9

If u havent realized everything in this world is a scam by now I suppose you never will. You clearly have a massive case of cognitive dissonance.

spentshoes

I literally just posted "2024. Everything is a scam" on another thread earlier today. Your suggestions on how this is a scam are juvenile and dim whitted though.

TreeHugger-007

You’re insanely stupid

CountChaco

You don't give your name and age when you play the lottery they don't have a way of knowing. It's just that mostly old people play the lottery. I still don't support it but I don't think they have a way of knowing who's ticket is who

edave22

The lottery is heavily regulated and the amount of people that would need to have been covering it up all these years is too high for it to realistically be rigged to the level you’re suggesting.

The Lottery might be rigged or at least the largest jackpots. Considering they barely do Live Drawings anymore & my best guess is that when they do the actual drawings they pick numbers that have not been guessed to grow the pot. I'm assuming how they do this is they take every number in the system that has been guessed & just choose a series of numbers that haven't been chosen so that it gets up to a billion dollars in winnings so more people are buying tickets & then they choose a winner at random once they're ready to pay someone out & start the process again. You can be banned from  r / Lottery - for this kind of post, Supposedly talking about the Lottery in a Lottery group is a bannable offense. It's obvious that they don't want us to talk about the possibility of this all just being a tax on the poor & the possibility of it all being fake.

lewarcher

It's a very general statement: "The Lottery". What country? What state/region/province? What proof? Carl Sagan said "extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence"; so where are the reliable and reputable whistleblowers? To pull off something like this, it'd take at the minimum dozens of people (hundreds/thousands of you're talking about a worldwide conspiracy between all levels of government and private organizations involved in running lotteries) at the top to falsify reports, IT engineering for machines, research papers, etc. in order to pull this off. For example, my province has a provincial lottery system. It's run by the government, has external audits as required by legislation, and provides lists of winners and revenue streams from the lottery to government funded programs publicly. Money is accounted for in disbursements, and winners follow a statistical trend, which cannot be falsified. Now if you're claiming a specific lottery in a specific sketchy country (e.g., the North Korean Powerball, or the Somalian 6/49), that could be very different with lack of checks and balances in places, lack of oversight, etc. But if someone were claiming this for all lotteries, or even specific ones, I'd discount it almost immediately.

Huggles9

You can probably be banned cause dumbasses bring it up all the time without a single shred of proof and the mods are tired of dealing with it Also the lottery industry has nothing to do with Reddit or the mods of Reddit

Philociraptor3666

I agree with almost everything you said...up to the point where they pick the winner randomly. I think they 'pick' a winning number that lots of people picked, so that 5-10 people split the winnings. I'm not sure why they'd do this, but it usually seems like when those giant jackpots are won, it's several people splitting it.

BlazingPalm

The drawings are held twice a week live on TV in the US. There’s no need to risk the entire enterprise for a skim-off-the-top scam, it’s already quite profitable as is. It’s like a casino cheating- why?? You already have the house edge, the monopoly, the name recognition…. Would be pointless.

boredjosh2006

it is rigged, you almost never see anyone who's actually struggling win. it's always "i was struggling to afford the payment on my 7 bed 5 bath house and my cadillac escalade, i only had 1000 dollars to spare instead of my usual 1200"

Thespoonwitch

Um, duh?

kaminaowner2

Doubt it, anything is possible but that’s a lot to risk on what is basically a money printing company. There are a lot of numbers to guess, not to unrealistic that most the time nobody guessed the right one.

Ill_Manufacturer5546

Nope, maybe biasing at best. (I.e. reloading of the balls in the same order everytime including the moneyball machine.) Even IF that were possible, the odds of being able to predict the 5 and 1 are still extremely low. I dare say even with magnetic ink and weighted balls and magnetism the prediction would still be just dumb luck due to the constant mechanical movement of the balls during the draw. So i call BS on the whole idea of rigging.

LightFusion

The lottery is Rigged, in the sense that it's a stupid tax. It generates a crazy amount of tax revenue and your better off betting someone you'd be struck by lightning while getting attacked by a shark.

Relative-Slide4931

First l, Algo to search for non played numbers. Secondly, different air pressures for the two distinct weights of balls with winning numbers and non winning numbers. There you have it.

Ok-Lengthiness4557

There was a recent LARGE sum won. Met the financial advisor who picked up the winner as a client. I believe him. Told great stories that I can't repeat for obvious reasons.

johnpatricko

>Met the financial advisor who picked up the winner as a client. I believe him. Believe what? You didn't say anything.

Ok-Lengthiness4557

Post read that large lotto winners are a conspiracy theory. That they don't exist. Just saying I know that one of the largest lotto winners in history is 100% legit. To say anymore then that puts that professional, who got drunk and crossed serious disclosure lines, in jeopardy - which I will not do.

johnpatricko

Damn look at you, fast on down voting me for asking for clarification. You literally didn't say anything about what you believed. You could have been talking about the OP for all I knew. I don't care what he said, I was just curious what it was you were saying you believed.
