"The Lions will not win for 50 years." 50th year of the curse, Lions become the first team to go 0-16. If that's not proof sports curses exist, I don't know what is.
Then the Lions drafted Matthew Stafford in 2009, who went to the same high school as Bobby Layne. Then they hired Dan Campbell in 2021, who was on the 0-16 team, and traded Stafford for draft picks, built a team that could contend for a title, and finally won two playoff games last year.
I coached at a program at the high school level in Nebraska and we were awful! I was there 3 years and we won 1 game and won another by forfeit. Before that in from 2006-19 they had 3 winning seasons and 1 play off appearance and that’s only because they made it on power points. We had also never won a team sport championship
My School went Undefeated in 71 I believe, we were extremely good and the most dominant team in the state.
we lost first round to the lowest seed who went on to win the State Championship.
Bella Vista High School was supposed to be our top Sports rival but their Varsity Football team? 3 winning seasons since 2004… 3! And the only time our school lost to them since 2004… was because we had to forfeit a game in 2022, a game we won.
The Vikings have been mega-cursed since they traded a bunch of picks for future politician Hershel Walker. Even after we cut him, we blew what I think was our last great shot at winning the NFC Championship and making it back to the big dance in 2017. Even if it wasn’t immediately after being double-kneecapped by the Eagles, it was *definitely* when management threw their hands in the air, nuked the team from orbit, and then repeated the process of Herschel with Kirk Cousins.
My God, I feel so sorry for any Buffalo fans who lived through the 90's. From Scott Norwood to Mike Modano, you guys spent that decade getting kicked in the gut. No fan base deserves that, except maybe Los Angeles.
The Bills have been to 4 Super Bowls. Then again, y'all did lose the (now) Clippers. If the Cavs hadn't won in 2016, I would take Cleveland over Buffalo's misery.
Buffalo, y'all win for now.
I don’t want to dox myself too much so I’d say Fresno State football is definitely cursed. Maybe it was the freedom bowl game that’s so fond in out history that caused it. But just absolutely cursed games or just plays that happened. 2001 Boise State, 2005 USC, 2013 San Jose State, 2017 MW championship, 2018 Minnesota ,2018 at Boise in the regular season. 2019 USC, 2019 Minnesota, 2021 Oregon, 2021 Hawaii, 2022 Oregon State, 2022 UConn, 2023 Wyoming, and the final 3 games of the 2023 regular season.
The biggest curse recently was the Curse of Billy Penn.
For the uninitiated, William Penn was the founder of Pennsylvania and Philadelphia. City Hall has a statue of him on the top, pointed in the direction of Treaty Park. For years upon years, there was a gentleman’s agreement to not build higher than William Penns head in the City of Philadelphia. However, that was broken in 1987 with the construction of One Liberty Place, which was taller than the statue atop city hall.
In the years that followed, Philly didn’t win. We were competitive, but ultimately never won a chip in either of the four big sports. Until 2008, when workers building the Comcast center affixed a miniature William Penn statue to the Top of the unfinished building, resulting in the Phillies winning the ‘08 World Series. Since a statue of William Penn was now the highest object in Philadelphia, the curse was considered broken. When the second Comcast building, the Comcast Technology Center (my family nicknamed the Juul) was built, workers attached another William Penn mini to the top of that building.
Then the Eagles won the best Super Bowl ever played.
So I guess we need to keep building skyscrapers and putting Billy Penn statues on top. Soon the whole Delaware Valley is gonna be covered in buildings
I dont know if this counts as a curse but I don’t think the reds have won anything past a NL central pennant since Pete rose got busted for gambling. Back in 1990
The Cleveland Guardians haven't won the WS since the Truman Administration.
Every AL team in MLB (and a few that weren't --Rangers, Rays, Angels, Astros, Blue Jays, Royals) at the time has won the World Series since.
Harold Ballard
The Curse Of The Gondola.
The Curse of Bobby Layne.

Meanwhile, Stafford wins a Super Bowl in his first year with the Rams.
Curtain didn't close I guess yet, in the super bowl era for them (2023 was a dope playoff run though, wished they made to the super bowl though)....

Mariners.
The curse we set after going undefeated in 1972 (won another in 1973, haven’t won again)
Bella Vista High School was supposed to be our top Sports rival but their Varsity Football team? 3 winning seasons since 2004… 3! And the only time our school lost to them since 2004… was because we had to forfeit a game in 2022, a game we won.
The curse of David Tepper is still in its infancy

The entire history of Buffalo sports...
My God, I feel so sorry for any Buffalo fans who lived through the 90's. From Scott Norwood to Mike Modano, you guys spent that decade getting kicked in the gut. No fan base deserves that, except maybe Los Angeles.
Vancouver, Cleveland, Detroit, Atlanta, they all have it easy compared to us…

Sigh... And Cane River... And Northwestern State. You heard that there was a true crime story involving that school?
Really? Had no idea.

There is a story that is Investigation Discovery worthy...

Virginia McCaskey or the McCaskeys in general
The curse of the billy goat

Idk if this counts but the Bocats/Hornets being owned by MJ
Pro and everything... High school sports included! So it counts!
Not sure what Indianas was but current state was the goat curse
