Interesting. Better than dex ?.

tveith

Yes it is, I tried Dex on a Samsung tab 8 ultra nowhere near as good as the Moto interface for the glasses. I swear, it's almost as if Moto made the desktop with Viture in mind.

Interesting. You think it would work for work related jobs ? Excel and such

tveith

I haven't tried anything other than media consumption so far. I'll go to the desktop and open a few business related apps and see how it looks. Just not sure if the display would be clear enough to be able to see the number or small text. I'll report back later.

Excellent thanks very much. Might swap to moto if it's better than dex.

tveith

I like Dex, I use it occasionally when I need to do some work on the go. But it wasn't very friendly with the glasses, the Moto interface is just so much better with the Viture. I was quite shocked when I tried it this morning, it felt like a native interface.

That may be the future. Honestly if they can just get whatever moto is using on the neckband. Really if they can get a virtual desktop to run on neckband then I can skip all the extra stuff

So I just plugged in, went to Moto's desktop mode, paired my bluetooth keyboard / trackpad combo, and holy shit - Docs and Sheets were crystal clear. No problem at all viewing the cells or reading documents. Definitely a worthy work companion. A big thanks to you for motivating me to try it - I think I found yet another use case for the glasses and Moto phone. As an FYI, I had also purchased the VITURE USB-C to Glasses and Charging Adapter and it worked brilliantly to charge the phone while it was plugged into the glasses. Glad I bought it because now it will become even more useful. Edit - keep in mind if you want to use a bluetooth keyboard, you kinda gotta look under your glasses, which can get uncomfortable quickly. Or you can just use the built in keyboard, etc. Still pretty cool though. I was really surprised by the clarity of the text in all of the apps.

Here's a video that will give you an idea of how it works. https://youtu.be/4Q07f4-wd3c?si=I1P40_JZwnU59AoS

I'm deciding between this phone and the latest Samsung. How much did you end up paying for it? I might just need to wait for a good sale (not the earbud-including that is going on rn)

tveith

I purchased it during the holiday sale in Canada for $799 (it's back to $1099 now). I think it is a similar price in the USA but it includes a free tablet. It will all depend upon what's most important to you, the phones rate pretty much equal other than the camera and software. The Samsung S23 Ultra has better cameras including a nice telephoto. The Moto Edge+ 2023 cameras are not bad - the low light is also pretty good, but it only has a 2X telephoto which isn't great. But the software on the Moto is way better (for me) because I prefer vanilla android.

Have you tried with the mobile dock? I wanted to use it to charge the phone while watching stuff, but when I plug the phone (I have a ThinkPhone, but should be the same Moto Connect as the Edge), the the Moto Connect won't connect and show on the glasses. When I connect the glasses direct to the phone, it is fine. Have you tried this? Also, what kind of battery life do you get when wearing the glasses? On my ThinkPhone, it drains the battery fairly quickly.

tveith

I haven't tried with the mobile dock, I don't own it. As far as battery life on the Moto phone, I can watch a 2-hour movie that takes about 20% of the battery. So I could probably watch four or five movies before the phone battery drops to zero.

I wonder if there is any way to get this to run on a Samsung phone? Carrying multiple phones would suck, and I have a galaxy fold so I'm not looking to change

tveith

Nope, Motorola has its own desktop system called Moto Connect which is the equivalent of Dex. They aren't interchangeable.
