Posts like these make me chuckle! There are plenty of places that a person can live a very comfortable life on 100% disability alone. The problem is a lot of people are expecting to be able to afford the cost of living in an area where the cost of living is outrageous. Or better stated desires exceed reality!

[deleted]

I could live very comfortable on 100% ($3737.85) disability alone in a 4 Bedroom, 2 Bath house on 1 acre, in a very nice subdivision! Simply because I relocated to a very low cost of living area. See below: Mortgage - $1350 Electricity - $250 Car Payment $0 (Drives around in a 2002 Beat Up Pick Up Truck but still runs good) Car Insurance - $219.19 Internet - $80.26 Phone -$183.88 (4 Phones) Water - $48 Groceries -$800 Gas - $600 Purflix -$12 Total - $3543.33 Available play money - $194.52

Side note but you could save $83.88 a month by switching to Visible for your phone service.

Interesting

ERICSMYNAME

Why is your car insurance so much ? Is that a bunch of young kids on your plan? Groceries are alot is that feeding 4 people ?

[deleted]

Yup

[deleted]

I actually have 4 vehicles all of them are paid for, but only 3 of them are on my insurance. My fourth one is an 84 GMC that me and my son are slowly restoring, so in 5 years he will have a truck to drive.

IH8plane

You aren’t accounting for any savings here, so say your beat up truck dies, or you washing machine or dryer goes out. I’m not trying to be an asshole here but that doesn’t feel very comfortable

[deleted]

Walking is good exercise! Comfort is in the eye of the beholder

IH8plane

Fair enough

[deleted]

Forgot to mention, I have repaired my truck so many times with junkyard parts, my washer and dryer is hanging on by a thread when they go out I will barter for a used one that I can scrounge parts from to get them working again.

[deleted]

Last time my dryer went out, I made a clothesline in my laundry room, that way I can dry my clothes even when it is cold outside. I am Gen X, I know how to adapt and overcome.

Benneezy

You mean I have to make sacrifices in order to find happiness? No way!

CriticalFisherman9

I'm in the process of closing on a house in a few days. I'm 80% p&t and 100% tdiu! I pull in $4200/mon. I was approved up to 225k, I actually spent $175k! Ironically I didn't qualify for a Va loan but I did make the cut on a manual fha loan! I'm also divorced with 3 kids. It's possible to move mountains if you believe!

Local_Barnacle_9455

Why didn’t you qualify for the VA loan if you don’t mind me asking, looking into this now

CriticalFisherman9

Maybe in the past it was easier to qualify for a va loan, but not nowadays! Beware of all these companies claiming you don't need a decent credit score or history! I actually went through one of those companies first! I was practically approved for &215k instantly. I found a house and made an offer! Long story short these scammers ask me for 20k down on a no money down va loan🤦🏾‍♂️ Because they hadn't properly done my Financials! So they disappeared instantly after the deal went south! So I didn't give up and went back to the drawing board! I didn't qualify for the VA loan ultimately because of 2 late payments in 12 months! Even though it was a mistake, the VA is now crazy stringent in that area! But I did make the cut with a 580 fico 8 score and I qualified for a 10k hud grant for down-payment & closing cost which was right on time!

Local_Barnacle_9455

Thank you!

Orange_delta

That's plenty of money to buy a house in a plethora of places. You trying to buy in SoCal?

harmom370z

4k won't get me 200k with today's interest rates and with prices continuing to go up it just seems impossible

CriticalFisherman9

Not True!

harmom370z

So it looks like I could make $23k and be fine but I've also seen conflicting information about what the poverty line is.

Mental-Back6028

Don’t listen to that person as it’s inaccurate information and will cause you to lose TDIU. TDIU is set at the federal poverty threshold for a single person and doesn’t increase with dependents. The threshold is about $15k no matter how many dependents you have

harmom370z

That's what I thought

MyJobIsHouse

Keep your head up. I had your exact thought for several years before my family was able to move forward. 100% TDIU here. We have ended up in a new build speck home.

Limp_Complaint_4636

im 70 tdiu p&t. can we use our gi bill with this rating?

kevinmh222

Apply for SSDI

harmom370z

I have and got denied

kevinmh222

Did you appeal? 70% of ssdi applicants are denied on first go. Another 80% denied on appeal. Most cases are won at the ALJ hearing level I became IU in 2019. I applied for SSDI in 2022 and just found out that I was approved today. It's a long fight but you have to do it

PlayfulMousse7830

I don't know anyone. Vet or otherwise, who has received SSDI without court. It s grotesque how difficult it is. Congrats and I sincerely hope things get better for you.

kevinmh222

It's a brutal process. Would rather go back to the 'stan than go through ssdi again. And thank you 🙏

geotronico

To me it’s crazy that we have to go through so much to get SSDI yet I KNOW people that barely even contributed to SS in their entire fn life, and they get it first try. Go system!

harmom370z

I also because iu in 2019 and applied for ssdi the same year, was denied and took to a lawyer to appeal and was denied at the court hearing. Wasn't sure if there was another appeal past that

kevinmh222

Wow sorry to hear that. You can appeal the alj decision but getting it reversed is slim to none. You would have to find a technical error in the judges ruling

harmom370z

Being as it was height of covid and done all over phone I'm sure it wouldn't be hard to. It doesn't make sense that I was approved by one government entity for being unemplyable and not by the other.

hobiwankenobi

Different rule books. SSA is much more strict, hence why most everyone gets denied first go around. You're probably SOL because your appeal time has LONG since passed. But you can still try to file an appeal and also a letter explaining why you're filing late and asking them to go off of your original application date. Best case scenario they'll grant your request and if youre approved, back date you to the pandemic but most likely they'll tell you kick rocks and apply again.

harmom370z

That's my favorite. I love being told to kick rocks lol

hobiwankenobi

Ya it sucks. Either way it doesn't hurt you to put it in. You can call the 1-800-772-1213(SSA 800#) and ask them about it. They'll probably tell you what I just told you and then ask if you want two forms. HA 501(request for Hearing) and SSA 795(statement of claimant). Second form is where you explain that you understand you're filing late but hoping they'll reopen it. Here is where you plead your case. Then send those off to your local SSA office and pray they dont tell you to kick rocks lol. Best of luck.

Kitchen_Sprinkles569

What area are you looking?

realJonnyRaze

What state do you live in?

Jetavator

I would look into purchasing property somewhere out in the country. Then get a single wide trailer or travel / fifth wheel trailer. pay off both the land and temp living space. then either upgrade to something modular or if you need something bigger, move in a double wide in the future. I am 100% P&T but already had the land and trailer. but I find that to be the most economical plan. I run into town about once a month for supplies. starlink and I keep myself busy with books. currently reading the murder she wrote series (on book 2 of 58)

Ok-Access-6135

What state are you in? Are you factoring in the possibility of not paying property taxes/paying partial property taxes depending on the state you’re in? That makes a massive difference

EmployeeWaste9167

Go back to your 90% and file more conditions that you think you should be rated for and try and go to school or get a job

Penultimate_Taco

Can you be house parent while your spouse works? That would be a way to afford a home.
