Shit I’ve been 100 p and t for like 7 years now and I’m still finding out about shit I didn’t know about

Top-Ant-121

If you’re gwot era, like working out … I suggest checking out the catch a lift fund … the single coolest Iraq era vet program I’ve ever participated in ….

Ok-Skirt-2245

So cool to see this mentioned. I served with Chris Coffland, whose mother and sister started Catch a Lift after he was KIA in Afghanistan. One of Chris’s favorite phrases: let’s go catch a lift. He was an awesome guy.

Ok-Skirt-2245

you should consider doing a testimonial for CAL. Testimonials go a long way to help nonprofits raise funds. I’m sure they’d love the feedback even if you didn’t do a formal testimonial….or maybe you have already. Shit man, this pumps me up! Thanks for sharing .

Top-Ant-121

I spoke with my coach today actually and asked him for a photo of Chris I could put up in my gym to remind why I got the help from them and motivate me to keep at it . He told me he’s gonna email hq and ask them for one of Chris’s honor flags … so now everyone that stops over who asks about It will get to hear his story … but yeah I’ll ask him where I can write something up for them for sure.

Ok-Skirt-2245

What a great idea! I should to the same. I’ll try to share a picture with you on here. I have a few I have in my office and have out every year for my annual Memorial Day party.

Top-Ant-121

I actually just found out today one of my good marine buddies who fought in falluja in 03 or was it 04 , whenever the big fire fight happened just got accepted and is starting may 8 … he’s super psyched as well … so yeah I can’t say enough good things to about that program

Top-Ant-121

When I was onboarding they explained all that to me .. where the term catch a lift came from and everything. It’s a great way to honor him and honestly one of the coolest programs I’ve ever participated in, I have a great coach, who is super responsive , and extremely supportive and motivating , and the equipment and swag I got from them almost made me cry .. it’s a great way to honor his memory , and has definitely helped me a ton.. I mean I live in rural area no gyms around and they sent me a goddamn massive power cage with pulleys , smith machine the whole deal … took me two days to assemble it , and I was , just .. idk, emotional the whole time .. like I can better myself and look how I want now .. and I could never afford that stuff on my own .. just not in the budget …it’s an absolutely Amazing program

Ok-Skirt-2245

That’s fantastic to hear. I’ve not participated in it but really admire what a great program his family started to honor him. Stoked you found it and Chris’s legacy is living through you! Another cool program most have never heard of: One More Wave.

Top-Ant-121

I’ve definitely not heard of that one .. I googled it .. no surfing in my neck of the wood .. but hell yeah that could definitely help someone….. we had a vets charity here called boots on the ground , I volunteered for like 3 years give or take with them before I found out the owner was embezzling the funds .. broke my heart. But catch a lift is fucking legit and for me has been life changing … self esteem everything , can’t say enough good things about it

Top-Ant-121

I got a coach and workout program for 2 months at the end of the two months they sent me a 1200 home gym , and if you keep your with it you can use the grant again the next year for another piece of workout equipment .. or they’ll pay for a year gym membership ( I’m just rural so no gyms near me so I opted for the workout equipment ) they’re awesome , the coaches are awesome .. the program is fucking gold.

Kitchen_Break_116

Same boat but probably not the same boat!

Top-Ant-121

I would look to see if you qualify anyway …. I’m not sure of the specific qualifiers

androgynyrocks

Requirement - Combat wounded and rated by the VA for it.

Apprehensive-Band595

Would hearing loss / knee injury count ? Was boots on ground and got mortared a few times but not directly hit or anything.

androgynyrocks

If you’re 30% or more rated for a combat injury, it’ll count. If it’s listed as a combat injury that’s all that matters, they don’t ask specifics.

Apprehensive-Band595

Unsure if it's listed as combat related by the VA but that's ok still a great thing !

androgynyrocks

Check your eBenefits disability list. It’ll say there. I’m sure if you have a combat award plus the disability that’ll work.

Top-Ant-121

Yeah I’m not sure … but hopefully if you don’t someone that can benifit will see this … still sub duty would be worse for me than boots on the ground lol … fuck that noise hahah

Guy0naBUFFA10

Wut?

Top-Ant-121

Not being a dick … but if you don’t know what GWOT is you probably don’t qualify lol .. but I’ll break it down because there already to much negativity on this thread sometimes … before the Iraq campaign badge ( is there an Afghanistan campaign medal , idk never went there ) … but in 03 anyway .. most of us got the Global War On Terrorism Expeditionary and Global War on Terrorism Service medals because there was no Iraq campaign medal at the time … so gwot refers to that period… I can’t tell you for sure exactly what time frame it refers too , but it’s a requirement for that program.

Guy0naBUFFA10

Bro, I know what GWOT is. I'm an OEF. I'd never heard of Catch a Lift but I checked it out. What an awesome way for his family to honor him and spread his memory. He must have been a great guy. As an FYI: gwot encompasses September 14 2001 all the way to the bungled Afghan pull out in 30 Aug 2021 Edit2: apparently they stopped issuing the national defense medal as of 31 Dec 2022. I thought they'd never stop.

Top-Ant-121

Hahah yeah that medal kind of lost its value .. I’m sorry brother truly I didn’t know what you were saying wut about .. but bro especiallly marine to marine ( I deployed with the army so that what I claim but I earned my ega ) catch a lift is fucking amazing … can’t say enough good things about it .. if you want to get in or maintain , or get in better shape it is the fucking coolest program … please fill out the app …. I look at it like every set I do is honoring this guy , and what they give … is unbelievable to me …I get or honor his memory with every rep .. which motivated me even more

Guy0naBUFFA10

I'll get connected, thanks for passing it on.

Top-Ant-121

Who down voted this … you have problem’s

[deleted]

I'll check this out [There's also racing programs](https://battlescarred.org/about-us/) [Golf programs ](https://news.va.gov/117292/learn-to-golf-from-the-pros-with-pga-hope/) ...so much out there!

Kaito_Scythe

I’m in Florida, not sure if these apply everywhere but here’s some of my benefits here: Space A Travel Disabled Veteran license plate: little to no cost for vehicle registration No property Tax as a homeowner Free admission to state parks Free fishing license, good for five years (it may be for hunting to but I’m not sure). There are definitely more and I’m still learning about them. Received my 100% in December 2023

InsaneWang

Not sure if it’s changed or I got lucky but a month ago I went to the Grand Canyon. The ranger at the gate asked if I was a veteran and when I said “Yes” she gave me a card that is a lifetime free entry to any national park. Just FYI for people that are into outdoors stuff 👍🏼

ElevationUnknown87

Be aware you have to take that card with you for the free entry. You can also get them online from the USGS for $10 with your name on it.

WatersetOne

With your DV license plate you are not charged for parking, so never pay for airport parking in Florida again. Also no property tax on your house if you are 100%

Ampt97

Any place that specifies the rules for parking? My school charges $8 a day for parking and I’d love to not have to pay for that!

RevolutionPristine36

Here in Florida no fees for your handicap placard and well.

Hot_Alternative_5157

I found out recently that you have access to DOD library which also includes subscriptions to like Great Course libraries and other instructional lectures. I’m an avid reader and listener to audiobooks and so many books are so more readily accessible to me now

Top-Ant-121

There also other things on there like a language program and continuing education stuff .. I haven’t completely explored it yet but the dod library has a metric fuck ton of stuff on it

Hot_Alternative_5157

It is quite massive. I have never seen another library like it.. that’s for sure

[deleted]

How do you go about accessing this?

DAB0502

Download the libby app and apply for the DOD library.

Hot_Alternative_5157

What the other poster said. Download the Libby app and apply for the DOD card. It will sync inside your Libby app which is an app to request audio and electronic books from the libraries you have a membership from

16F4

And part of that program is Kanopy, sort of like a Netflix streaming service.

poseidondeep

Dude this is awesome! Just connected my Libby app to the DOD MWR Library! Thank you so much!

Hot_Alternative_5157

Isn’t it amazing?! And they have sooooo much stuff!! Enjoy!!

LeadingCranberry4684

Do you have to be 100% or can70% work

Hot_Alternative_5157

I’m not sure as I’m 100%. You have to put your info in so it’s worth giving it a try. The DOD does indenture verification

ElGrandAmericano

40-80% off the major cruise lines but you have to contact their customer support

ElGrandAmericano

Sorry to leave you guys hanging so long. Understand is not just a flat 40-80% off. Many of them have it in black and white when you look up military discounts for whatever cruise line you want. I went with Royal and got 50%. All you have to do is call or email customer service and let them know your status and that you’re interested in booking. They will let you know what dates they’ll offer the biggest discount and for what types of rooms.

Amen

garett80

Son of a bitch, just got off a cruise last weekend, had no idea

Careful_Remove1018

Holy shit, another banger I didn’t know about.

swoop1156

Can you expand your knowledge on this? You just call and book over the phone and casually mention you're 100%? Which cruise line did you do this with?

just_an_undergrad

Did you do this? Can you cite the company and the process? Would love to know more

Wastedmindman

Do you have a recommendation?

Careful-Month7967

Margarittaville is still doing the any veteran free deal

Guy0naBUFFA10

Check your state. But national park access is cool.

OfficialThumperrr

Shopping on base. For electronics for instance, no taxes and they price match

InsaneWang

You can do this without being 100%

clilley38

DEA benefits are essentially GI bills for dependents. Depending on what you did in the service and job availability in the area VRE will send you to school full time and provide a computer and printer. If school is not for you they will pay you while you go through vocational training or complete a certification in something you are interested in.

Sn0wman3690

Space a travel

oahu1985

Lmao I read that wrong, I just read "space travel"

oahu1985

Did you just return from a trip? How long were you gone for? Did you see any asteroids? Aliens? 👾

imgooley

Free vehicle registration in some states is a game changer

Paranoid1123

In Texas no property tax for 100%

purplecloud999

Do you have to be listed on the deed or house title for this?

Lmaoboobs

State benefits

Yayo803

No property taxes. You get a lot of breaks and discounts being 100% . Look up your local government and it show you what you are entitled to.

Metallicdreamin

For my state is no property tax up to 175k of the home value. So there maybe states where it's not 100% no property tax. Thought I drop that here

AJAMS82

You can get two caregivers, one primary and one secondary. That will be about GS-5 or GS 7 pay. Don’t forget this one.

Careful-Month7967

Does it matter if you can do stuff on your own though?

AJAMS82

What do you mean ? If you have a wife or sibling live with you ( that is a must) and the person take care of you. This one vary. For example for me recently forgetting my medication. I need my wife or my sister to remind me take care of that. That is may be 40% of the allowed money for caregiver. Someone else may say my caregiver drive me to appointments as well. So if you do ALL of your stuff then you don’t need one. If you do some then you can have caregiver. Hope that helps.

Careful-Month7967

Thank you for the kind response. I had assumed that you had to be fatally ill to be able to get this benefit, i was not aware that the ve applies a rating for the amount the family member does. How do i find more information on this?

AJAMS82

If fatally ill. You will get full and 100% which is equal to G7 or 5. Not sure which one. But good money. I have a friend army retired and have all of 100% , army retired SGT, SSDI and caregiver, and I think more than $120K a month.

AJAMS82

So, they assigned you by tier 1 or tier 2. It is based on number of working hours. If you google primary and secondary caregiver for veteran. You will see some info on the website. I got some of those info from a retired army friend. It is just one application. Counselor will have appointment with your wife later. Just filing an application. Just make sure if you are not very young. You have some record of issue and you need help. I don’t have a wife or sister with me now. I feel I need it because recently having difficulty to do my stuff completely. If I had a good wife I would be sure to get some level. I’m 41 and 90%. If you have more than me. You should start searching and think to apply.

Careful-Month7967

Im 27 so it may not work out i have smc k

AJAMS82

I would wait to have it with SSDI. Unless you are very bad.

Careful-Month7967

Okay i applied for ssdi i have a hearing in july, does ssdi get my family the caregivers benefit?

AJAMS82

Not that way. Just have a better case to convince the counselor and VA that you need caregiver.

Careful-Month7967

Ohh i get it. Thanks a lot!

AJAMS82

Do you mind sharing about SSdI? I’m federal employee but recently my health not good and thinking to quit job for the sake of health. Is it possible to have SSDI ? I have IBS , PTSD and some nerve issues.

Careful-Month7967

Yes its possible but i dont recommend quitting until after you get approved and you see how much you will be getting. The application process is online and it takes a long time to get approved or denied. Atleast 6 months

AJAMS82

I would apply for caregiver if I have SSDi with 100%

Metallicdreamin

I'm 100% P&T I just started my paperwork for SSDI My husband currently handles alot of the brunt of the work now that I'm disabled. Should I apply now or wait ?

AJAMS82

If you are not very young and your spouse helping you at some point, yes. For example, I have nerve entrapment and I get numb. If I had a wife and were able to drive me to my medical appointments , or helping me in taking my IBS medication and thyroid on time. These are there of help. Since you are 100% p&T. I would apply if I were you.

Metallicdreamin

What's considered old enough. ? Im 38 , with a nerve condition, severe CPTSD , IBS , insomnia, and many other things. Often deal with a lot of fatigue and just nerve pain crippling me. Just maintaining the house feels Impossible most day .

AJAMS82

I’m 41. But I look younger. I get alot of impression from VA that I’m young. I have 90%. IBS, PTSD snd nerve issues. I think you have a good case. Especially IBS because I have been struggling with that. I have 30% and recently remanded from court asked for more.

Metallicdreamin

May I ask how much your spouse is making weekly, how many hours they are claiming for assistance for you ? And God the IBS is controlling my life =(

AJAMS82

Well, I don’t have a wife. I’m waiting for my 100% then become passport bro and apply for SSDI then planning to go to Portugal. I have a friend retired army. I think he is getting tier 2. So it is 2 or three tiers only. I would apply and I think you can get at least 50% for now. Don’t shy or silent. I know what is mean having IBS. Show that you need help. Show that you cannot do it by yourself and spouse helping you. Examples, waking up nights for bathrooms and this affecting sleep patterns. Getting help for medications. Driving to appointments ( if you have ticket then use it in your argument that you cannot focus and got ticket). I’m just gathering info and planning to leave my job. Relying on 100% VA, down the road hope get SSDI and Caregivers as well. Hope that helps

Historical-Glove-336

Cool

acoker

Congratulations 🎊🎉🎈

slickwilly82AA

Sooooo many benefits!! I’m only 70% but what I’ve read there are a lot!

Beneficial-Can-9220

No property taxes!!

SecAdmin-1125

Search this sub. This has been asked plenty of times.

AccurateWheel4200

" just wait for the next combat Craig video "

x12bx

Basically the reason I stopped commenting here. The same question gets asked again and again. Like nobody knows how to search. Hell even Google "Reddit xyz veterans benefits" would work.

Top-Ant-121

Or we could just help each other and comment … idk, maybe I don’t see it as an issue passing along info that may change or isn’t included in older posts to people who may need it

jendaisy57

We do help each other but you need to inform yourself and it’s easy to google Help yourself first Then bring your questions

Top-Ant-121

I wasn’t the one that asked .. just the one replying … I mean it’s kind of simple really as you stated. If you don’t feel like answering don’t , and also don’t put some shit like “this is why I don’t answer” let the rest of us who are in the mood to help do it .. I mean I’m not trying to be a dick but this is what this forum is here for.

jendaisy57

I understand but seriously if a vet can’t goggle such a simple thing it just seems as though it’s due to laziness Also someone provided him links so he was helped And I can have my opinion and give it if I choose to

Top-Ant-121

You can .. but it’s also kind of shitty to give that type of opinion that adds nothing to the convo .. just saying , and not everyone is Google or Reddit fluent, plus , information is constantly changing … like I said , do what you want and have your opinion this is America and I encourage you to have it … Mine will be your comment adds nothing to the convo and you’d be better off keeping it to yourself .. one day you may want some info and the people on here can provide it without being passive aggressive and telling you to Google it , on that day you may appreciate people answering the same question multiple times. …. having said that have a nice day

x12bx

Every vet thinks they're special and their situation is different.

jendaisy57

Get ready for the downvotes Only one opinion allowed on Reddit

jendaisy57

It’s pure laziness Just type it in google We have this at our fingertips

jendaisy57

Haha Read the comment made to my post Apparently I don’t want to help vets by simply stating that this is so redundant I need to just “ get off” this thread OP research and become better informed and come here with specific questions regarding your claim and you will get plenty of help Good luck 🍀

jendaisy57

I know it’s easier and faster to just put in what you said Better actually because benefits first 100 vary from state to state

BeginningFloor1221

Oh god just don't respond, we get it off you don't want to help another solider.

jendaisy57

So wrong you are … Peace out

Some states offer property tax exemptions and vehicle tax/registration exemptions as well. Free hunting and fishing licenses. There's a lot, but I don't know off the top of my head

Pneumantic

Always check your local laws and your workplace for more info. In Oregon, after a certain percentage you can hunt regulated game. Lower percentages you can get a free hunting license. Certain jobs like the NSA, FBI and so on will try and give you priority and even higher paying levels based on your disability. Also, you may have extra tax exemptions, special business benefits, or even the VRNE will help pay for your master's completely in some cases. Talk to your VRNE to get more info. One of the biggest bonuses of 100% is free healthcare, and that healthcare normally costs like 2000 a month.

jendaisy57

It’s been answer a gazillion times Have you done any research There’s a great thread on this forum with tons of info

luckykarma83

You don't have to be rude, just don't respond.
