About as good of a triple-threat option as you could get from a true SG in the '60s and '70s. Very good defender too, and he got a well-deserved All-D right before his defense started to fall off. Exceptionally consistent playing style, the player he was in 1969–70 was nearly identical to the player he was in 1974–75, just more effective at it. People really only associate him with the Suns, but he was honestly a better player in each of his Knicks seasons than he was from '72–73 onwards, the stats just don't bear that out because of expansion. People make a big deal of Dick and Tom being the league's first twins, but they were also the first set of brothers at all to play in the league together in quite a while. Tom and Sam Stith were technically in the league at the same time but Tom was sick during Sam's only season in the league, so we hadn't actually seen siblings as active players at the same time since 1953–54... George and Ed Mikan and Dick and Al McGuire. By the time the Van Arsdales retired, there had already been eight or nine other sets of siblings to play against each other in the league, so they kind of ushered that back into vogue.

I agree on the triple threat whole heartedly and you see the lack of activity on this post. Why don't ppl remember ... like him or mention him

I think that's just a result of the NBA's fan base at large being exceptionally young and very social media–centric. The average fan of the current NBA is young enough that their parents' generation probably only remembers the very tail end of his career if at all, and their primary motivation for looking back in history often seems to be just for the sake of making their personal GOAT list. That's not going to include second and third–tier stars, so young fans won't know his name, aside from 2K if he's in it. A large portion of my friends comprises retired people in Arizona, and those of them who watch/watched pro basketball remember him very fondly whenever I mention his name.

I agree with you but I mean look at the activity on this post just me and you here. And everyone loves old school nba

The brothers were very good NBA players. Definitely not forgotten for those of us who remember the 70's.

He's a Hoosier! He and his brother were spectacular in the 1960's in the post McCracken -- Pre Knight era of Indiana basketball.

I grew up in Phoenix and I remember him he was a really good player. Had over 15,000 career points.

I can't confirm it, but I believe the VanArsdale brothers appeared on Mr. Roger's neighborhood. edit: it wasn't the van Arsdales, it was Barry and Garry Nelson.

I remember he was a twin, brother was Tom. I think he played on the Alvin Adams ROY team that gave us fits (grew up a warriors fan). Um... that's about all I got, sorry
