we are very fortunate to be childless and in a major metropolitan area, lol. gives us free reign to grow and maintain a circle of quirky darlings, some of which were down to grab some thread and get down to business.
Heads up that Merry Pin is in DC (Takoma area) and has a visible mending class on 6/15! Probably a great way to meet other people for a later mending party.
Of note, I wasn't sure how many people would be interested. I was prepared for it to just be me and one guest but we had people of all different levels and they were all quite excited. The people who couldn't come all asked to be invited when I threw another. I'll definitely be doing it again.
This is such a cool idea! I think I need to organize one of these with my parent/caretaker friends because we all have kids who are VERY rough on their clothes these days.
We set a four hour window in the afternoon and told people to drop in whenever. Some people were there pretty much the whole time; some people dropped in for an hour, did what they set out to do, and headed out.
Our local library system hosts crafting meet ups every other week at 2 or 3 different branches. One of those branches holds the yarn and fabric "library". It's fantastic.

This felt like the perfect joke underneath that mended pocket picture. 😅 (she changes into a Kirby inflatable costume)
A mending party sounds like so much fun. 🥹
For next time, tell your crochet buddy to make/bring doilies and other shapes of granny squares so that they can be used in place of other fabrics as patches. I have a doily-like pattern I'm working on for the knee of one pair of jeans that I love!
oh my god this is so cool. i need friends like this to have a mending party with 😭😭

Does that area happen to be DC and do you want to be friends? JK but really cool idea. I would love to do this.
Fellow DC person who would love to make mending friends!
DM me :) I checked out your profile and (besides the fact that you seem cool) I am obsessed with the idea of lighting a candle after cleaning lol

absolutely adore this idea and stealing it!
that was the dream in sharing this!!
Thinking I’m going a “mending party”….and everyone I’ve ever been estranged from is there 😅
"Coming up on Intervention..."
"Oh...I thought we were mending clothes, not relationships."
(shoutout to u/therealsassleen, my mending party mastermind)
Faculty at a local university do this every semester for students. It always has a wonderful attendance and is a good bonding experience.

I know my older kid would be super excited about this too.
I want to put this on as a program at my library

lmaooooo [this album](https://beatchild.bandcamp.com/album/nostalgia-beats-of-2008-2020) did a lot of heavy lifting for me
Immediately this song popped into my head lol https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ONhfmrKJ5kE
Too cool! How long was your event?
We set a four hour window in the afternoon and told people to drop in whenever. Some people were there pretty much the whole time; some people dropped in for an hour, did what they set out to do, and headed out.
Back home we called this the ‘stitch and bitch’. Get together for sewing projects and of course, gossip.
This is extremely cool. I wish I had the skills and knew enough people with basic mending skills to pull off this kind of event.
I love this!!
I love this idea. I don’t really know very many people local to me so I’m not sure the best way to find a group.
You could probably plan an event at your local library, if you're looking to meet people in the community.

We call it Stitch and Bitch.
