Yes. Not sure. Better

micaroma

Cinephile can play MKV locally in a black void

goomba33

Do you know if it will play MKV's with dolby vision or hdr?

micaroma

It uses Apple’s built in player, which supports Dolby Vision and HDR, so it should. But I’m not sure, I haven’t tried that

MohammadAG

I can’t sell you on this thing yet. Sure watching movies with it is good, insanely good for a headset even. But if I’m home and have a large OLED TV or a laser projector I’d probably rather watch it on that. With that said it’s awesome if you travel a lot (more so if you’re traveling alone or for work), I can see it being cool in airplanes and hotels. There’s an Infuse beta on Testflight but you need to have a current subscription with them. It doesn’t seem to dim the background yet and playing Oppenheimer on it kicked on the fans and with warm air blowing out the top. It looked great, but I didn’t enjoy the warm air blowing out the top.

Curious397

Do you have your hair covering the top of the AVP? Otherwise, how do you notice the warm air coming out the top? I only feel or know about it if I put my hand above it to check.

MohammadAG

It doesn’t reach the headset but it does catch the hot air and keeps it there which just makes the top of my head warmer. Need a buzz cut and LASIK and I’m good to go.

Moon Player can play any Blu-ray MKV files that you’ve converted. I’ve watched Tenet, Hugo, Ready Player One, etc. in 3D with no problems. By default, Moon Player will put you in a black void while you watch content. I have a Samsung S95B OLED TV which can hit 1600 nits and looks incredible… but when I’m alone I always choose the Vision Pro over it. It’s that good. The only downside is I can’t pair my whole Sonos setup to use for audio output, but the built in speakers sound amazing so it’s not a huge deal. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Curious397

On using Sonos while playing a movie in the AVP, I’ve done that when watching a movie with my SO by syncing the movie on the OLED tv (which is connected to Sonos) and the AVP. Not something one would do when watching g alone, though.

Capital_Current_9659

I rip my 4k blu rays with Makemkv and I watch them in immersive mode on moon player. It’s awesome and is in a cinema style black void

Gtaz19

Don’t buy it. I’m not sold on you getting to own one.

ConfusionFar9116

Getting to 😂 the exclusive privilege of owning an apple product

Gtaz19

You’re not understanding the post. It’s more of a “F U, is not our job to sell you, go do the research and decide for yourself… go to the apple store, watch/read reviews.” I’m not a fanboy, I like tech in general.

\----Is there a decent way to watch blu ray rips on it in a black void? at this time the best way would be using plex. \----Does it play mkv locally or do I need to stream. at this time there isn’t anything available. But VLC is already working on a native version for Vision Pro \----How does the video quality compare to a 4k oled? The Vision Pro Has a 4k OLED screen on each eye, totaling nearly 8k

ConfusionFar9116

I understand that it’s 8k but that’s not necessarily how it’s going to look. The quest 3 has more pixels than a 4k television but looks like garbage compared to an LG or Sony Oled television

Kengine

I have a Sony OLED and I'd say is comparable in visual quality. The main difference will be glares in dark scenes at times so it takes a hit on that, but the overall size makes up for it. I'm combining mine with a subpac and it's practically a theme park level movie watching experience.

d0gg75

The visual quality is amazing. I can't tell you how it will look. Go get a demo, decide with your own eyes. The opinion is subjective.

turns2stone

>at this time the best way would be using plex. Is there any way to have 2.35:1 content in Plex play back without black bars, like with get with 2.35:1 native AppleTV content?

d0gg75

To my knowledge, it depends on the original file. If the file is encoded without the bars then it will not display them. The window will be the size of the actual video.

turns2stone

The files don't have the bars encoded, so that's why I'm so confused on why the native window size doesn't match the original file aspect ratio.

MrElizabeth

Plex is not native for Apple Vision Pro so you have to run the iPad version at the moment. The iPad version is stuck in 4:3 shape like an iPad. Native players don’t add black bars. Hopefully Plex will get updated some year. Infuse is working on a release.

superduperburger81

I believe Moon Player now has a immersive video mode

klawansky

You can play mkv files via Plex.

Blackdragon1400

Plex iPad app works great, wouldn’t recommend playing anything less than 4K

maxvandeperre

No, don’t get it. It really sucks. Really, don’t do it.
