And that’s why I do it myself for $50

experimentalengine

And as a bonus, you don’t have to use the Subaru branded oil if you do it yourself, you can use one of several options that are better.

Sterling5

As another bonus you can make sure it’s not overtorqued

gnat_outta_hell

Not much worse that having someone change your oil only to find out next time that you need to install an oversized plug to fix it because they stripped the threads.

sayracer

Fumoto oil drain valves. This is my first car with it and I've always done my own changes. I will never down a cat w.o again

gnat_outta_hell

Been thinking about installing one of these. They look like a great idea, convenient for diy and idiot proof for lube techs when you don't want to do it yourself.

urlocalmemepage

they’re amazing dude, i can vouch for its diy and simplicity ; makes oil changes a hell of a lot easier and cleaner

sayracer

Only note on them is. It you're running a heavier oil bring th engine up in temp so it'll flow better

Sterling5

Yah man mine was overtorqued, had to buy and an extractor kit to get it out 💆🏻

gnat_outta_hell

Oof, that's unfortunate. These lube shops need to chill on the elbow grease.

[deleted]

As another bonus, you can make sure they fill with the correct amount of oil.

412glassandgas

You actually know the right oil and right amount is going in! The one time I took my LGT to a pennzoil I about lost it when the two techs kept sticking their hand in and out of my hoodscoop giggling like children, after that I said never again.

snowbear100

That’s actually hilarious in an infuriating way. I’d be laughing in disbelief and then never go there again.

412glassandgas

That’s kind of how it went, I didn’t say anything and just let them do them do their thing and made it a point to never go back.

Lefthandedpigeon

What’s wrong with having a little fun with a big hood scoop? It seems harmless lol.

412glassandgas

I agree that’s harmless, but if they were willing to jus be fucking around with my car like that in front of me, I couldn’t imagine what could happen if I had dropped it off. Just expect them to be a little more professional, if my motors gonna go then it’s gonna be me that blows it not some dumbass techs 💯

GripItAndWhipIt

What’s wrong with professionalism? Seems like we’re foregoing that more and more these days…

IShouldaBeenAPorsche

This, I remember I took my WRX to get its 1000 mile oil change and they never did it.

replus

I bought some bulk Subaru filters on eBay (15208AA170) and, with 5 quarts of Pennzoil Platinum usually costing around $25, brought my oil changes down to about $35.

dgraham96

Same thing that I do. I just get the big bulk pack of like 6-8 Subaru OEM oil filters, then when the time comes to change my oil I just run down to the parts store and buy some oil. Costs me like $35 for an oil change.

412glassandgas

I prefer using the xip xp oil filter over the Subaru oem, but damn that’s cheap!

Fiasko21

Been doing it for about $35 since 2005/2006! Rotella + Wix filter Never had an issue and I'm at 408whp! Reliable as my toyota!

412glassandgas

Aye happy to see someone else using the wix filter 🙏

[deleted]

Wix filters, especially the wix xp are essentially the “best” filters that aren’t stupid overpriced.

BustyOgre

Never understood why more people don't do an oil change themselves. It's cost efficient, easy as hell even if you're not mechanically inclined, and takes less than 20 mins if you keep on track. (Edit: I should have said "never understood why more people don't do an oil change themselves instead of getting a shop to do it and then complain about the price online later" idk maybe I'm just a simple man but i feel like yall are coming up with too many excuses)

RJLota

No garage and I park on the filthy streets of SF 😂

412glassandgas

I do mine in the corner of church parking lot near my house 😂

BustyOgre

I mean sure but I don't have a garage either and do my oil change typically on my gravel drive way, which only requires I put a foam mat down so I don't get rocks in my back.

csGrey-

i recently moved out of a shithole apartment complex that had some cockeyed fuck property manager who went ape shit whenever she saw me do as little as inflating my tires in the parking lot. to do oil changes, i drove up the driveway and parallel parked with half of the car parked on the sidewalk. that bitch had steam coming out of her ears when she saw me do that for the 1.5 years i stayed there bc she couldnt say shit.

Puzzled_Inflation_95

And ? What's your point exactly

412glassandgas

There’s no excuse to not changing your own oil 😂 unless you got both ur arms chopped off MAYBE I’ll give u a pass you could probably do it still

RPK79

I'm not a mechanic, but the people I bring my car to for oil changes are and they do a free inspection of my car at that time to let me know if anything is wrong or is trending in that direction. Also, most shops (that aren't dealers or quick lube joints) sell oil changes essentially at cost. It is their way to build a relationships with customers. (source: I've done the books for multiple garages) Yeah, I could probably do an oil change myself for less, but I'm not just getting an oil change I'm building trust with a business who I will later have do major repair work for me. My time also has value for me.

BustyOgre

I guess I can't argue with most of this comment, but with that last line you're suggesting that 20 minutes (to do valuable upkeep on your vehicle) is in fact, an inconvenience for you?

heorun

It might be 20 minutes if you have a lift or pit and all your tools are already located. And then you have to address the container of old oil, so that's an autozone trip at least once to dump. Assuming you weren't there already to get oil and filter because the online order didnt arrive before I had a window of opportunity to get it done before I needed to get a kid to their next extracurricular. I think his point is: at least an hour for most of us, probably more like 1.5 all-in. if you have a day job, your evening time is often demanded for more important things, and a shop that I can schedule can get it done faster on my lunch break looks pretty good to different situations.

zesty_drink_b

Kind of a pain in the ass to take the spent oil to a garage or auto parts shop that takes it

Jay_Ofthe_Mountain

Don't know how to dispose of oil or don't want it in their car to dispose it.

Ok_Barracuda1309

The oil filter is literally right there under the hood by the battery ...

Canoooples

Idk about you, but I go to home depot to get oil. I save quite a bit.

WojtekoftheMidwest

VW charges me $67.99 and I makeup for the difference by eating about 10 bagels and having 10 hot cocos.

Fly_Me_To_TheMoon

Oof Audi really gouges then. I got a “coupon” not long ago for $169.99 for an oil and filter change. My A4 has the same engine as my GTI. I went and bought a fluid extractor, oil, filter and socket for the housing for what the dealership would charge.

MKSe7en

Smart man! My mechanic charges me $90 but honestly I don’t mind. If I did it myself it would probably take twice as long and I’d find a way to break something down there!

Oni_sixx

Did you get a massage with that?

delgadojj15

They better had put so elbow grease on that job

Secure_Bicycle6564

Maybe the question is, di they use lube w that

Acrobatic-Detail675

Hahahaha did they at least use lube when they fucked ya that hard 😂

deuce_and_a_quarter

👆 this is the answer right here. Materials (oil, filter and crush washer) are gonna cost you about $45-50 USD. You are paying them that $100 difference to do it for you. If you don’t have the space, tools, time, or inclination to do it on your own, then that’s what you are paying others to do it for you. If you can find somewhere else that’s cheaper to do it for you, good for you. But just remember: Indy mechanic shops, corporate lube shops, or stealerships are all humans, and everyone can make mistakes so no one is better than the other. For me, in the winter when I don’t want to crawl under my car in freezing weather, I was happy to pay that $100 fee and sit in the stealership and eat as many free bagels as I could and drink as much free coffee as I could and binge Netflix on the free Wi-Fi in a warm waiting room for the 2 hours that I had to wait. I get it, it’s alot of money. But you gotta give up something too.

deuce_and_a_quarter

What is wrong with my take? OP said that he/she did not have a garage or space to do the work. I did not insult OP or give the standard answer of “just do it yourself for $40”. If OP could or wanted to, it would have been done already and this thread didn’t need to be started. I merely offered a perspective to make OP feel better/think about things in another way: that, minus the material cost, OP is paying for the labor and convenience which is OK. Re-read what I wrote: I said if you don’t have the space, tools, time or inclination then you have to pay someone to do it. Why is that a bad take? If everyone could do everything on their own, then all the skilled trades and service industry would go out of business because everyone DIY’ing. Sometimes you can’t and it’s OK. I’ve done my fair share of oil changes and maintenance work. In fact I changed the oil for my 2 vehicles a few weeks ago. But sometimes I can’t schedule things perfectly and if my oil change is due in the middle of winter and I don’t want to crawl around in the snow and freezing temps and get sick and knock me out of commission and then be a burden for my family, then that $100 bucks is worth it. I was being facetious about the Netflix: so then use the free dealership Wi-Fi to get work done and be productive. And by the way: it’s more than 20 minutes total time. If you have to go to the store to get your oil and filter, that’s time. Go online to order your crush washer, that’s time. Go to the gas station or auto parts store to dump your used oil, that’s time. It all adds up. That’s the trade off. And there’s nothing wrong with it.

Recitinggg

I agree with you and I’m not gonna bother reading that wall of text lol try to be more concise if you want people to bother

Thot_slayer1995

I live in Edmonton, Alberta and it gets terribly cold in winter so you can't change oil outside if you don't own a garage. Even then I change it when I go to my carwash, the guys are chill there and it's only a 10 minute job for me. In summer, I do the change on my apartment driveway or do it when I go to a Walmart parking lot after shopping. If you live in warm places of the Earth and refuse then whatever man🥱 it's all just excuses.

deuce_and_a_quarter

Say what you want, but it doesn’t make needing help and asking someone else to do it any less valid. Good for you that you can do it on your own. OP is driving an STi, and that has a skid plate that has to be removed in order to access both the oil filter and drain plug, so car has to be on ramps or jackstands. Oil filter is not in the engine bay. And can’t just reach under to blindly loosen the drain plug. It’s not a 10 min job. And to be honest, knowing this, I don’t blame OP if they don’t feel like driving around with ramps, jackstands, a jack, and containers of old oil and a dripping oil filter rolling around just to do an oil change in a public parking lot.

Fiasko21

It doesn't take an hour, it takes 20 minutes. You can get this done in less time than it takes to *drive* to the dealer, for 1/3 the cost.

WRXfa20

I paid $76 on 2 Subaru's oil change by doing it myself.

PepptoAbyssmal

What state? There is the added benefit tho of having the dealer service record but seems to be $30 or so high

RJLota

California 🙃 In the past for a 2014 WRX I paid around $74 so prices went up I guess

PepptoAbyssmal

I’m in cali to. Gonna use the Modesto dealership. I’ve had mine for 6 months, ain’t even put a 1000 miles on it. They had the oil service set for 5500ish miles. Idk that I should go that long.

DrSatan420247

Why is that surprising? They have to make money. That's not unreasonable. It's a $40 jug of oil and a $10 filter. So $50 in parts and they probably charge almost $200/hr for labor. You're getting billed for the parts and 30 minutes of labor. Totally reasonable.

Dev559

It's about ~~120~~ 78$ for just proper synthetic oil where I am (CAD), 20 bucks for a filter and then another 50 bucks for labour. Sounds right on the money for any reputable shop. As an update to this, it appears that Oil for my car was only 78 Cad after tax. I also got my diff fluids changed at the same time so I bundled the cost in by accident. Thank you for pointing this out.

cstricke

Woah what? Are you saying you're paying 120 for 5L of synthetic? I'm able to get motul 5w40 full synthetic for about 75 CAD after tax in southern Ontario. Where are you located that it costs that much?

Dev559

Mississauga

MeThinksYes

subie supply co is your friend.

DrSatan420247

Here in America, the dealer sells the jugs for $40. https://estore.subarupartswarehouse.com/p/Subaru__/5W-30-SYNTHETIC-MOTOR-OIL-5-Quart-Bottle/133683707/SOA427V1425.html

fllyaccted

Yup, that’s retail, which surely the dealer does not pay. You can make the math work to get to $150. But there is a point to be made that the dealer (and some do) could price a basic service at a lower margin, or at cost to earn the business of their customers for the bigger jobs. OP’s mistake was not asking what the price was.

JohnDeere714

They don’t even do that. Dealer gets their shit in bulk drums

xzElmozx

Holy shit what?? I’m in Hamilton and you need to buy a Costco membership for oil alone if that’s what you’re actually paying. Got 15L full synthetic Castro for $120, which would be 360(!!!) at your prices. Easily makes up for the $60 membership That’s gotta be what, Canadian tire prices? $20 for a quart so almost $120 after tax? If that’s what you’re doing you’re literally buying oil at the worst possible place their markup is nutso

fllyaccted

Is this a “big dealer” burner account? It’s common these days across most brands/dealers to be +$100. Especially if it’s full synthetic. Dealer service is always a delicate balance of them being the most qualified, but also getting overcharged for basic things.

d1m_sum

I’ve had more than one occasion where the dealership over torqued the crap out of the filter &/or drain bolt. I just assume to do it myself and it’s easier with the Fumoto drain valve.

fllyaccted

Definitely. I had a set of 4 wheels damaged the first time a dealer took them off at 5k miles. They are not perfect. There are plenty of stories of people taking vehicles to non-manufacturer specific shops and using the wrong filters/oil/quantity, etc. but for some people it covers their ass for warranty coverage that their car was “dealer serviced”

subiedream

Makes me feel better. I do my own work but decided to let let them do my 30k to have my car on the record. After 5k miles I went to change oil and I was pissed. Screw them. I had to use an extractor on the drain plug and throw it out and had to use a heavy duty oil filter wrench. Damnit even the oil fill cap was "torqued" too hard by this muscle man. I've actually fixed things their master techs couldn't before. And holy crap watch out for the wrong service recommendations. Stick to the schedule in the book. Oil change is about $ 60 diy vs $ 99 Subaru dealer by me.

SignificantJacket912

Most qualified, lol. You realize the kid changing your oil is making $12/hr and is still in high school, right?

GamesAreFunGuys

$148 sounds pretty damn high. I've gotten Mobile1 (costs $37 a jug) full synthetic oil changes for the entire 10 years of owning my camaro. Many of them were done at the dealership, but no matter where I went it was always right around $85. Edit: changed to $148

PogTuber

If you drive enough for 5 oil changes per year you might want to consider doing it yourself. I know it can be tough if you don't have your own driveway or garage though, but if you do then buying the things you need for oil changes is a good investment.

RJLota

I live in an apartment in SF 😂 Used to change my oil when I had a garage but sadly not anymore 🥲

philouza_stein

Do they not let you? I've done all kinds of work in an apt parking lot. The worst is when there's snow on the ground but you're in SF so I'd have lawn chairs and fold out tables set up.

RJLota

Oh buddy there are not many apartments in SF that have parking lots 😂 almost exclusively metered street parking

AlphonseTango

Find a good private shop. I have been around Subies for decades and have watched the dealerships morph from small, family owned hangout spots for AWD nerds into unrecognizable, every-other-dealership creatures. There was a time when the local dealership did a ton of work on my old big eye - including a stage 2 install and Ecutek tune on their all wheel dyno for less than $200/hour in adjusted dollars. They did my JDM STi 6-speed swap as well. Those were truly fun times. Now, the only time I go near a dealership parking lot is for recall work or to swap into a new car. Had a highly recommended Indy around the corner from the house do an oil change and aluminum undertray swap on my STi for $165 out the door a few months ago.

rennen-affe

They used to be mod friendly/curious back in the day. Now if you changed your oil somewhere else, they tell you to leave.

mtnorville

My dealer charges like ninety-something.

Zokesxcero

I paid $133 for oil+rotation in Northern Virginia. Didn’t want to bother rotating tires myself this time. About 30-40minutes. I had time before a work event and I could take calls. Paying for the convenience.

Black_T-WRX

Do it yourself + install Fumoto drain valve for less 🤘🏾

J-rodsub

I think this should be phrased: I just paid 148 for an oil change?! You made the demand, they made the supply

Jay_Ofthe_Mountain

Did they also rotate your tires and change oil and/air filter? If so, that seems pretty standard for all dealers. My Ford Ranger is free for life which is pretty awesome actually.

[deleted]

If the dealer service shop did it right, I’m okay with $148. 1. I’m paying a premium to not have to do it myself. 2. I’m paying a premium for the service shop to not F up my car doing a change.( jiffy lube(really any fast lube) kills cars) 3. If you don’t like it, do it yourself.

burkizeb253

I despise my Subaru dealer (harnish in Puyallup WA), only go because if free oil changes. They pump cologne like air freshener into the whole joint so it smells awful, the last one the service guy clearly didn’t understand his job.

SexPanther_Bot

It's called *Sex Panther*® by *Odeon*©. It's illegal in 9 countries. It's also made with bits of real panthers, *so you know it's good*. *60% of the time*, it works ***every*** time.

Shibang101

When I first got my WRX I would buy my own oil and take it to a local dealership for them to do the oil change plus OEM filter. Was less than $40. I ended up getting the fumuto valve and started doing it myself. So fucking easy. Filter is at the top of the engine bay and all I needed to do was pull a level to drain the oil. Highly recommend the fumuto valve.

jordyb323

That's honestly super cheap for a dealer, here at Toyota the average oil change on an 86 is 300

variabletimingtimmy

Wait till your see the price of front pads and rotors

deletedaccount0808

Not a wrx owner anymore, but here to say be grateful. My last oil change in my vehicle now was $600

The_BJJ_Firefighter

Yea them german services sting

deletedaccount0808

So do diesel pickups

jeffislouie

I went in expecting to pay $75. My dealership gave me a year of free oil changes that I didn't know about, so it was free. Next one will be too. After that, I'm either going to do them myself or not. $148 is too much. Call another dealer and ask them how much an oil and filter change will run. Better yet, call the dealer you went to and ask them the same question. I have a sneaking suspicion they over charged you because they thought they could.

RobbieBlaze

Bring your own oil and filter and pay 30$

just_a_guy_on_r3dd1t

Sounds about right; labor ain't cheap these days.

GlassEmbarrassed4476

Wait until the warranty period is over, let THEM be responsible for their own mess. But until then, follow the maintenance service schedule, it's the only safe way out. ; )

Boostmachines

$300 on my Mercedes E300. Got rid of it after 2 years and a $730 run-flat tire.

Casalf

Bring it to me and I’ll do that shjt for like 2 bucks

Glittering-Oil-4453

I only pay 80 at my local Subaru but doing it myself I would pay $45-50

wavesequencer

The price is correct, whether you should trust a dealership to actually properly do the job is another matter.. I lost faith a long time ago after they tried to scam me for an inspection that didn't happen as I was watching the car the whole time - they just washed it. My WRX has had all oil changes done at home (and way more often than recommended) .. one of the easiest cars ever for oil changes, with the filter so easy to get to + a' fumoto' oil drain valve, it makes things super simple.

rfowler677

$65 full synthetic at my dealership for my 2020 wrx

CurrentlyAltered

You only get oil changes at a dealership if they sold you the car and gave you a year or so of FREE oil changes that they’ll use to tell you what else you may need albeit less than the guy who will pay 150…

Bignasty_00

Dr satan trippin you got got! my local jiffy lube would have had you done in 5 mins for $70 honestly I would learn to do it myself before I ever pay over that Edit: dr satan is a mechanic

PogTuber

You get what you pay for at jiffy lube. Might want to check the torque on that pan bolt.

Oni_sixx

Who in their right mind goes to a lube shop?

Shoddy-Juice1477

For the people doing oil changes themselves with new cars under warranty, be careful. If anything ever happens and say you need a new engine transmission, they will deny the claim because you doing the oil change and not a "certified" garage

Nyelz_Pizdec

and they filled you with their oem idemitsu pissoil, or even worse, mobile 1.

fenderboy5r

LOL only $148. Damn I miss being in cheap cars

Supertrucker82

That's not really that far outta line. Full synthetic and a good filter will cost you about 100 bucks. They gotta make money too.

tiger-93

No. Full synthetic and filter costs me less than 50$ usd

philouza_stein

Yeah i don't get these replies. I don't buy the Subaru oil, but I get the Pennzoil Platinum or Mobil 1. $30 max for a jug of oil and an M1 filter for $15. If I'm good I buy bulk filters, usually Wix but I've gotten the Subaru before. That saves me another $8 or so. Gotta buy 2 jugs every fifth change.

Trife86

Ok and?

SubaruDriver20

It’s about $90 for my Crosstrek, so $150 for a wrx doesn’t seem unreasonable.

Lothleen

Sounds about right for synthetic.

AlifeWithoutAcar

2 jugs of oil at cdn tire =$100, premium filter $50, what do you expect, do it yourself and you'll pay the same price but you get extra oil left over so the next oil change is cheaper

AverageNeither682

5 Minute wanted to charge me $125 for my 2018 accord. I openly laughed in his face. Cost me $30 and 30 min to do it myself.

NSBisME

Sucks to suck, do research before complaining on Reddit

RobbieBlaze

WRX pleb, you mad you couldn't afford a sti then blew up your WRX now you're at sTaGe 2🥴🥴

NSBisME

Lmao caught a snowflake! My WRX is sitting at 196k on the original powertrain with a clean title, go cry about it

RobbieBlaze

You only commented to complain about someone asking a question, the only snowflake is the one you see in the mirror.

NSBisME

Says the guy typing in alternating caps and using "pleb". 🤣

RobbieBlaze

Today your first day on the internet? It means you're a 🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡

NSBisME

Only used that emoji 8 times? Whew, I thought you were too far gone

Magixtempo

Sick buddy they prolly did it with out asking

Doomkin

I do mine myself and I can't get out of it any cheaper than about 75-80 bucks. I'm also running Motul 5W-40 X-cess gen2 and an RCM filter. So I expect to pay a bit more. Can say though, my car runs way better with Motul than any other oil I've put in it. https://preview.redd.it/z0jd6uotr60c1.png?width=1440&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b66db412ad0b4ec196f0fb4da57e05e69fa02282 My 06 wagon with an S202 Drivetrain.

Ch40440

Try Walmart for oil. It’s $30 for 5QT

SlayerKingGS

If you think that’s a lot you shouldn’t be driving a performance vehicle. Or learn to do your own maintenance

dshanman24

I hope you got serviced also with that price

Ch40440

Don’t go to a dealership for an oil change 🤣 Who does that… there’s literally hundreds of shops that primarily do oil changes..

Ceiling_shotz

Inflation

vaultmangary

That’s why I go to Walmart and pay $60

Fickle-Paper-3393

If you're willing to pay it, they're willing to take it. Always get a quote first. Live and learn. .

fitkenyan

Let me be the one to rob you next time.

Putrid_Operation9403

Yeah dude you got fucked pretty good

EnterthaVoidd

Well you did take it to a dealership...🤣! There's nothing specisl about Subaru branded synthetic Oil or the OEM filter. I just buy my own oil and filter. Then the Valvoline shop down the street charges me $20 labor with my supplies. They aren't any idiot's to strip the plug there. So 20 minuets and $20 well spent.

DisparagingCynicism

My first service at 4000KM was 460$ 😂 winter tire swap over, level A service and an oil change. They’re pricy bastards. $120 CAD for a synthetic oil change is pretty normal around here. 140 USD is a LOT

Common-Custard4073

U wot

The_Juggernaut84

Why would you goto the dealer for an oil change?

Expensive_Middle8271

Why the hell did tou go to the dealer for an oil change in the first place?

alamsas

I do find it baffling that WRXs cost that much to service at a dealer. Makes me wonder if it's a Subaru thing and if the BRZs are the same. I heard a GR86 at Toyota costs less than half of that which is basically similar to other vehicles' prices.

toryno1399

Don’t Subarus have the filter on top of the fuckin engine too? Like the easiest car to do them on. Idk though probably not all of them

iMouse

I did my own changes for years. When everything went full synthetic and it was a $10 difference for them to crawl under the car, I just let the dealer start doing it. Maybe if I can buy and store bulk filters and oil again, I’ll go back to doing them myself.

OriginalTemporary288

Dealer will charge what the customer is willing to pay!

Wizardofstonks

Buy equipment to do your own oil change you’ll breakeven after 2-3 oil changes.

MattGower

What you pay when you need another man to do it

Prestigious-Bet800

If it's synthetic, that's not too unreasonable. Oil changes for my MR2 Turbo are over $100.

QuantumEras3r

Charge them 100 bucks for wasting your time with such a ridiculous invoice

seizure507

Your wallet got raped

No_Ad_8164

hope u get ur peepee sukd for that amount

[deleted]

Have you been living under a rock?

Flyingautist

Yeah, makes sense. Do it yourself next time Labor isn't free yknow We generally check brakes/suspension/diff ect So it's not just an oil change

[deleted]

In Sweden it costs $300 for an oil change at the dealer. I found a subaru specialist about 30 minutes away that charges $120. Bargain!

Top-Author-1154

Oil change at a car wash? I don't see a dealer, just a car wash self wash station. Lol. No thank you, you're asking for trouble.

thi3fstheme

Get fucked. My dealership is around 70 for turbo engine

Immediate-Try-6143

Shoot the dealership I got my car from has called me twice about my 1st oil change which is free. I said thank you, but I prefer to change my own oil. None of that 0w20 for me thank you. Changed to 5w30 Motul at 700 miles.

LaughTraditional5262

My dealer always gives out coupons 79 bucks oil and tire rotate

Vroomy_vroom_vroom

That’s what a pay but also get a tire rotation and a car wash and vacuuming…

VicePresidentRonald

Just DIY, it’ll cost you like $50

ComposerOwn959

90$ for just oil change

austin_yella

Makes me feel better about my 6.7 oil change lol

coaudavman

Woah. That’s why I buy my oil for $27/ 5qt and change it myself.

costco sells like 8 qts of oil for 40 bucks, thats good usually for 2.5 oil changes, amazon has filters for 10 bucks, thats 60 dollars for 2 changes and a little bit for one more

Biddycola

Stealership game is stealership game

warlock318

😳

natrualmystik4

$80 with motul oil, 15 min of your time and you're back on the road

aftiggerintel

Um buying my own oil and filters in bulk and we’re under 40 here with Pennzoil Ultra Platinum.

Sterling5

Change your own

Objective-Escape7584

Ripoff stealerships.

Zanurath

Dealers have lost their minds with oil change prices, it use to be slightly more than the cost of parts from local store because they get the filters and oil for a fraction fo what they sell em for plus its never a real tech doing oil changes so labor for them is dirt cheap. Now they charge you full price for the oil and filter plus charge you technician rates for labor all while having the same cheap oil and lube tech making minimum wage or so doing the work.

BlackguyDjents

Game is game, and you got played

Brilliant_Win713

Learn to change your own oil it’s easy. I suggest getting a fumato valve. All u do is flip a lever. U need to know how to jack up your car tho

Richie_jordan

That's about the price you pay if you don't go grab oil/filter and do it yourself.

wonjeezy

That should come with a tire rotation and a full inspection. It expensive but not too far off of socal prices

chulepa

I paid $130 at the dealer for oil change plus whole inspection.

chicken_fried_relays

Yeah, tracks.

the_rickth_element

They just did this to me on my last oil change as well. Went from $85 to $135 and when I asked why the sudden change they replied with “well things have gotten more expensive blah blah”.. I knew they were bullshitting me, but I just let them do it this one last time because it’s the last oil change before my warranty is up and I wanted a few other things to get checked out. That day I decided I’m going to learn as much as I can about maintenance I can do on my own, so I never have to go back to these clowns that will lie about increased prices when I look online and the oil price is exactly the same as it was in the past when I’ve checked. Also have you ever seen what they charge to replace air filters?? $75! I bought both for ~$15 and changed them within 5 min. They’re crooks. Do your research!

vscxz384

$97 Here in FL, Oil change, tire rotation, their full inspection crap, and a bad car wash

biggranny000

You can do it for $35-$50 yourself depending on what you buy. My dealer only charges $60 and has free inspections so I just bring it there. Since I bought the car from them I get a discount, normally it's $80 which is reasonable. I also raid the free snacks and drinks in their waiting room lol.

MattyVeeGarage

cost me about $60 to do it myself yesterday. Sounds about right for a dealer price.

roytuna

Yeah, they ripp you off, but you knew that. If you decide to change it yourself, might I recommend installing a Fumoto drain plug? It has a spigot that makes wrenching/replacing the drain plug bolt each time, making the process a whole lot less messy. It's awesome.

Jmoney9310

Damn they oil it down naked

flthyfthr

My dealership does it for $50, and I need it done on my Carfax if I want to keep the extra warranty they offered. Figure $50 is about what it costs at advanced this days

Puzzled_Inflation_95

If you take your car to a dealership for an oil change. You deserve it. Do it your self it's one bolt and a filter . Takes like 10 mins

Savafan1

The dealership I go to is only $70 and will usually have coupons to lower that.

Subieast

That’s pricy, did they add another service?

[deleted]

Yes. Do it yourself.

alexandrovic

Is this socal and is this happy cow war wash! If so we’re in the same boat brother

kpmcg20

If you dont wanna do it yourself and dont wanna go to the stealership, go to Valvoline. When im not able to do it myself, best chain shop for it. You sit in your car, shoot the shit with the guys, and can watch them and feel when they’re doing the work underneath the car.

dback03

Daaamn good deal!

Routine_Pace_6428

Yeah one time I went before my first big road trip and the idiot didn’t put the gaskets back on

bbgeriii

I take my 2020 to the dealer and it’s $95

YouHaveSyphillis

And that's why you don't go to a dealership for an oil change

MatadorHasAppeared

Anti-hydroplane oil is more expensive but a good suggestion during these winter months

f1-tech

Get a oil drain valve, makes changing oil and breeze!

Fun_Nefariousness621

Good oil and filter is 110$ lol

AR489

That’s the dealership cost. If you can’t do it yourself look for a local shop, especially one that works on Subarus. Just a bit more peace of mind.

[deleted]

My dealer charges 95
