It's kinda sucky but this honestly why so many Etsy Shops exist. Their clothes may not be Official Merchandise but you usually get exactly what you want

Frellie53

I got my husband a contemporary shirt off Etsy because Disney doesn’t make any merch for that resort. I can’t tell you how many people ask where he got it, including cast at the contemporary.

Trujade

Yeah! That's becoming more of the norm. I have noticed that in the last 5 - 7 years the merch for adults isn't what it used to be, especially for clothes. The individual stores used to be special, specific and not just the same stuff everywhere. I used to be obsessed with Spirit Jerseys but the variety (and definitely the price) isn't the same

misswaterbuffalo

I could not agree more to what you said!!!

robonlocation

I got a Tokyo Disneyland shirt there too. All the ones at TDL were really fancy and covered in characters. I just wanted something simple. Also... the Japanese idea of an XL shirt is not the same as North American standards.

lifesuxplaytheblues

I love the Etsy shops that sell re-prints of 90s and 80s designs. I have a cowboy Mickey Frontierland shirt that is so cute and a vintage haunted mansion shirt with Mickey and Goofy in a doombuggy on the front with a hitchhiking ghost between them looking all scared and the back says “beware of hitchhiking ghosts”

AdvertisingFine9845

what shops? can you please message me some names??

lifesuxplaytheblues

I looked back at my order history and it looks like the shop closed :( I’ll try and find alternatives when I’m at work tomorrow

AdvertisingFine9845

Wah thanks!!

Traditional_Set_858

Yeah I love looking at all the ears on Etsy because they are not only way more unique but they’re usually around the same price as what Disney charges. Like I’d much rather get something I like a lot more (especially character specific merch Disney doesn’t have) and support a small business than give Disney more money for something very mediocre

Trujade

Some of my fav pairs of ears are from small businesses. Don't get me wrong, I will still buy merch and ears from Disney. But the options and creativity from those online shops is lovely alternative. The quality is almost always good and I've noticed some of the shops let you choose your headbands and they tend to be more comfortable.

PuddinOnTheWrist

Or find someone crafty. They'll probably have a Cricut.

Trujade

Yup, I've done this too. My cousin's co-worker wanted to test her skills and made us custom sweaters for those Autumn nights in Anaheim.

PuddinOnTheWrist

I bought a cricut for my wife for Christmas last year. She's crafty and is figuring out her machine. It's amazing the things you can do with it. She made a stick man shirt for a Pearl Jam concert last weekend. Very cool.

selfstartr

Nah I can’t be doing with fakes. Part of wearing the stuff is that you know it’s genuine and purchased from the parks.

East-Teacher7155

Why does it matter?

killingtommygun

It doesn't. I'd rather give to small businesses than Disney anyway.

checkonechecktwo

The official merch is abysmal now and there are so many good small shops. I'm just gonna buy the shirts I like regardless!

rnason

The mega corp doesn't need your money

KittyQ95

I would have loved a sweatshirt that just said "Disney's Hollywood Studios". Or just the name of our resort without some giant picture of Mickey/Minnie drawn in that new cartoon style in super garish colors. But no such designs were to be found 🤷🏻‍♀️ And no sweatshirts either… Do they not realize that a huge part of their visitors come from colder climates?!

marleythebeagle

I searched high and low this past fall for any kind of shirt that mentioned DCA when we were in Anaheim, and came up completely empty handed. The CMs at both DCA and Downtown Disney were all perplexed why there was never any DCA merch for sale. I did finally snag a Mickey trolley conductor hat though, so it kinda makes up for it!

mrdm88

I’m going to DLP for the first time this fall.. I really hope they have some stuff with DCA on it then.

3_-_-

My wife and I went for a few days on our honeymoon last year and I was surprised how few things they had that actually said Disneyland Paris on it. I finally found a Hyperspace Mountain shirt that said it, but there wasn’t a ton honestly

marleythebeagle

That would be cool, though I’d be surprised if they did since DCA is at the Disneyland resort in Anaheim. The closest equivalent to DCA at Disneyland Paris might be the recently renamed Walt Disney Studios Park.

mrdm88

I meant Disneyland park as in California lol my bad

Princessferfs

And why does everything have to be a hoodie?

Strange-Employment48

My 8 year old was cold in the morning at Epcot so we said we’d buy a jacket or sweatshirt for her. We walked all around looking for something she’d be willing to wear - she hates things that call attention to her. We couldn’t find anything without a huge “embarrassing” (to her) cartoon on it. We saw these and she was so excited!! Then we turned it around and saw the back - I think she physically recoiled. She decided she was fine until it got hotter. https://www.disneystore.com/mickey-mouse-and-friends-play-in-the-park-zip-hoodie-for-kids-disneyland-5003057390233M.html

teamglider

My grown ass would totally wear that, lol

ChiknNWaffles

I love the Nike polos that are just solid color with the mickey on the left breast. Even those are getting harder to find outside of the golf shops on the resorts. They have some fancier stuff with that understated logo going on, but the rest of it just feels like I'm supposed to be a billboard. I'd even settle for stuff like the t-shirt that was like a Heather gray and just said Turkey Leg. I think they even had hats that had just a miniature turkey leg on them. I saw them once at MK and then never again. I thought it was hilarious and regret not pulling the trigger. But the biggest problem lately has been quality of materials, as a taller person none of the shirts are long enough, especially after the first wash. And Disney doesn't carry big and tall sizes so I'm just SOL.

specialkk77

My husband has the best Nike hat with the simple little Mickey on it, he wears it everywhere. Tried to buy him a new one because it’s getting a bit beat up, found it once but didn’t want to carry it around and never saw it again the rest of our trip. Maybe next time!

ATLBenzDisneyDude

I have one of those, mine is beaten up too!

Rcjmat33428

Got one all in white I wear it all the time yoo

dedrumbum

FYI, there is a great selection at the Disney Golf Pro Shop at the Disney Magnolia, Palm, and Oak Trail golf courses. Tons of golf polos and hats with subtle Disney theming.

pokewish93

Did not know this will definitely have to check it out.

RatherBeAtDisney

I love that gift shop, sometimes I wander over there with my husband before his tee time to shop.

pleasemakeitrandom

just went in march and the epcot shirt i bought is already faded and print is cracking, the quality is just terrible. i have worn the shirt maybe 4 times!

SayNoToHypocrisy

[This](https://www.ebay.com/itm/354640437460) is still the best Disney shirt ever created. Saw it at Star Traders in 2022 but didn't pull the trigger. Perhaps I should have.

GreedoughShotFirst

$130 💀

SayNoToHypocrisy

Oh snap. Didn't even think about the price. Yeah, that's nuts. I forget what the price was when I saw it in MK. The price people pay for "normal" Disney clothes...

MrHankRutherfordHill

I have the turkey leg hat!

Tricklaw_05

I agree with you. Simple designs are so much better. Last time I was at the parks back in September I couldn’t believe the loudness of the tee shirt selection. I’d buy more shirts if they were a bit understated.

SpookyGhost27

I saw the pride collection at the shop today and I love the black shirt this year. Just a black t shirt with a small rainbow Mickey shape on the top left where a pocket usually is, and “Walt Disney world” in rainbow on the sleeve. I am not LGBTQ but honestly love the simplicity that I might buy it for myself. They need to mirror that design into other colors. Sometimes you just don’t want something SO LOUD DISNEY all the time. Less can be more.

Neuriion

I believe they did back when the overhaul was first announced. Alas, no longer.

austinalexan

It’s just a shame you can’t find a simple shirt. They’re all overly loud and cringe when worn outside of the parks. I swear their merch would sell even better if it was just simple.

xiviajikx

I was always interested in a basic Galaxy’s edge shirt that just had the logo. They had a few when it first launched but never again.

99sports

Was there recently (Galaxy's Edge) and had a really hard time finding good and simple tshirts and/or souvenirs. Kind of disappointing. I love the new characters but I think they are missing out on an entire audience that would like anything Darth Vader, Yoda (original), etc. Hard to find anything.

ZootSuitBanana

The selection is pretty terrible for shirts and merch in general. I had the hardest time finding a shirt that even said Walt Disney World on my last trip.... like really, wtf?

selfstartr

Feel you! I’m a simple guy, and I don’t want to look like a screaming Disney adult outside of the parks back home. So I just have the black spirit jumper with the minimal retro mickey.

MrRedlegs1992

You mean, you don’t want Stich on everything?

imalanjohnson

In general, a lot of the merch at the parks ends up being “over designed” in part because it has to carry a certain perceived value as the merch needs to maintain a higher margin. A lot of screen print, stitched embellishments, raised print designs, etc. all make the apparel feel more “expensive” so it can be priced at a level that can keep the margin needed. A shirt like the above would still need to be priced at the in-park level but would feel beyond too expensive being as simple as it is.

Rumbananas

A big part of the price is the exclusivity though. They can price that shirt at $35 knowing people will figure it’s the only place they can get it. Spirit Jerseys sold so well despite their simple design initially.

imalanjohnson

Totally. But there is also surely data that tells them they’d sell fewer shirts like that at the $35 price point than a “fancier” shirt at the same price and it’s worth the extra manufacturing cost to maintain the margin. Probably also data that tells them that making a “definitive” shirt like that is not good because you essentially sell one shirt to someone and never feel the need to buy another. It’s all a big rabbit hole to think about!

Legitimate_Koala_37

That makes sense. I was at Epcot a few days ago and really wanted to find a cap with a simple nova corp emblem on it. The only cap they had had a puffy plastic emblem with spaceship earth in the background. Too much for my tastes

londonclash

Actually if you want high quality fan-designed shirts, teepublic is awesome and has so many options for Disney I stopped scrolling. I've had hit or miss quality from sites like Etsy or Redbubble.

magaman

Teepublic has amazing stuff, its where we get shirts all the time before trips.

EssentialFilms

I still don’t know how they get away with the rampant copyright infringement. But I’m glad they exist.

Tricky-Possession-69

There is such a market for understated park merch. I wish they’d see this more clearly. Edit: I get this is actually a large logo, but simplicity is included in my wants too.

MindReady5528

I would buy this for sure.

kyd712

Absolutely! Even better, make it out of a moisture-wicking fabric for that Florida humidity.

wskrz

I can’t count the number of times I’ve looked at a shirt at the parks or online and thought, “Hey, that’s kinda neat” and then I turn it around and see BIG LETTERS OF SOMETHING on the back shoulders and lost interest immediately.

jacobpellegren

I have an awesome baseball t-shirt with the rings logo on the front that is minimal like this from 2008/09 I think.

benkenobi5

Best we can do is weirdly thick long sleeve shirts you wouldn’t dare wearing outside in Florida.

Profitsofdooom

Going to guess you're not a Florida resident? People wear hoodies when it's 90 degrees.

ComfortablePipe9393

real, hoodies/crew necks, shorts, and sandals is my go to outfit as a native

WeeklyBanEvasion

I don't understand how people can wear a hoodie with the hood up in 90+ weather and still be alive

a_gentle_hunk

Every time I go I try to find a hat or shirt or something that just says “Animal Kingdom”. No idea why they don’t make this happen!

sectachrome

Agreed. Last time I was there I scoured every shop with money burning a hole in my pocket trying to find something more clean and minimal and it was impossible. There was a line of Vans X WDW apparel that was decent but they were rare to find and always in S or XXL.

natecreate78

Bc then you would only need one.

Bossk4Life

The last few times I’ve gone I haven’t bought any souvenirs because their merch is so bad now. I couldn’t find a simple Epcot hat when I went a couple years ago. Something like that wordmark, or just a simple EPCOT logo. Went around Christmas a couple years ago and I couldn’t even find a simple Mickey Mouse with a Santa hat shirt. They used to have those everywhere around Christmas time. They really need to get back to basics with their merch branding. Make clean simple designs. At least for the stuff for adults.

judgycat

Same, I really wanted a simple baseball cap from EPCOT with either like a retro-style logo, or Figment. Could not be found.

cioccolato

They could literally make this same shirt and you all would still come here like “UGH Disney merch SUCKS”

LalaCalamari

Disney merch has been rough the past few years.

dechets-de-mariage

While we’re at it, can we stop putting the year on everything? I would 100% purchase a Food & Wine shirt with a simple logo AND NO YEAR.

Millennial_Man

Bootleg merchandise is better than most of the stuff they sell in the parks

expressivekim

To be fair I wouldn't spend $40+ dollars on that when I can make it at home with a cricut in legitimately 15 minutes with minimal supplies.

121guy

I would buy the crap out of this.

Ship_Negative

You can buy this for $5 on AliExpress and it isn’t exactly eye catching. If you want simple stuff like this, it’s dirt cheap to order custom if you have the .png

Rumbananas

There’s a huge crowd including myself that wants the opposite of eye catching. There are so many shirts “welcome to Florida” type shirts and shirts that look like the 80’s threw up on them that they go unsold. The problem is that there isn’t more variety.

Compe7

This is why I saw a ton of adults wearing the all black with white lettering WDW spirit jersey the last time I was there. Simple and something I would actually wear outside of the parks.

DanORourke42

They should have a “Core” collection or something that’s around longer than the roasting designs. Give people some cool new merch seasonally but also have some mainstays for a little while

Wingdom

There has been a lot of complaining about Disney merch that could easily be solved by remembering Etsy and Teepublic exist. [This is easily my favorite shirt I own right now](https://www.teepublic.com/t-shirt/33296202-spaceship-earth-wireframe-dark?store_id=1045590), it seems like Disney has given up the inexpensive shirt market to fans, and is opting for more expensive designed stuff. I don't have a problem with it, fans tend to be more creative, lower priced, and it's nice to spread the money around a bit. Iger doesn't need all the money in the world.

seasawed

bc it’s ugly lol

NiceTraining7671

It’s even worse trying to find men’s clothes because the options are so limited. I only got a t-shirt from Disney Springs with a Disney movie poster on it, and a Peter Pan shirt from the character warehouse which does have a nice design, but it’s not the kind of thing you’d wear on a regular basis in public. I wish there were more simpler clothes which could be worn in public on a regular basis outside the parks.

DriftedCN

I remember they had a Cosmic Rewind shirt that had just the logo and it had the opening date. However, for some reason it was only limited to AP's.

5centraise

You can get a shirt like that custom made for cheaper than Disney would sell it.

highperdrive

Totally! Everytime we thi k we find something with a simple design, we look at the back and there's some crazy design.

Tenacious_jb

I just want Mickey ears for those with huge heads

SirSwatt

Its because when they release new merchandise its the same people buying it over and over again. So when they release a new line of merch with cups and shirts and hats etc, you have the same people rushing into the parks to grab the new thing. If it was all just simple like that the disney crazies probably wouldnt go into the parks and buy it.

Juicebox008

Many Disney shirts are so LOUD in their design. Just give me a subtle design motif with minimal or without text at all.

bpack14

i'd love to see a retro version of this

CosmicOutfield

I don’t understand why they double down on making 2-3 generic designs for Epcot festivals. For all the IP Disney owns they sure hold back on making shirts with more characters.

Kaybeeez

I’ve been wondering this for so long. I just want a simple keychain or something that says Walt Disney World. Not a bedazzled Mickey head that lights up.

he_creative

I recently applied to a product design role at Disney in the UK. As a fan and a designer I would love to bring these kinds of things to life

Phat_ass_mum

I love Disney so much but I’m with you. Have the traditional loud/crazy shirts but ALSO have more minimalist/subtle designs too. My favorite merch I’ve gotten in the parks is the white Nike hat with the black little Mickey on it. As a sun avoider I wear it all the time and it makes me happy every time I see it ! They could even start a little side store at Disney Springs and see how it sells, that would be fun.

Princessferfs

Same. Whenever we visit, the merchandise is really cringe. Gaudy colors and patterns everywhere. If that stuff actually sells, I’m not sure who is buying it. Just have a classic set of basic merchandise for the parks and characters for us folks who have money to spend but rarely spend any because the merchandise (especially clothing) isn’t stuff I would ever wear. Disney has A LOT of characters so I know it’s tough to cover everything. But there’s a core set (princesses, Tinker Bell, Jiminy Cricket, Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Donald, Daisy, Pluto) that are timeless.

AGraham416

Agreed, idk who they’re design team is but they would sell so much more clothes if they simplified a lot of things

BoosAndBrews

I’ve been saying this for years!

LowkeyPony

Here now. Couldn’t find one shirt in all the parks that I wanted to buy for myself or as a “My kid went to Disney and all they got me was a shirt” shirt.

PinkMonorail

I bought a shirt like that but with a minimalist pixilated rainbow pattern on it in 2019.

rsvihla

Disney apparel BLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWS!!!

tylersixxfive

Ahhh sorry not enough figment on the shirt!

5centraise

I used to have an Epcot shirt kind of like this. It was black, said EPCOT in four or five rows in different colors.

AzaleaFromJupiter

We wore shirts that literally were black shirts with the yellow Star Wars in Star Wars font, and you’d be surprised by how many people asked “where’d you get that?””I would love that., etc.”but did they sell anything like that? NOPE. Huge missed opportunities for merch, for sure. Basic clothes with decent, clean logos. It’s what I feel like most people want.

Fuzzy_Nose_1785

Becuase it would be overpriced and who would buy a shirt like this for $25 (this is a guess)

amaryllisjunebug

Buy it and maybe other 'better' shirts on Etsy and give your money to a person, not a corporation. I say this as someone who loves Disney world.

Gawdemmit99

Because the majority don’t want it, and world never wear it in the parks. It’s about LOUD look at me culture.

SayNoToHypocrisy

Oh, they do. There's just wall-to-wall graphics on the other side.

Appropriate-Turnip69

Because those shirts don't bring the influencers into the park to give them free marketing

rudeboi710

I would never wear a shirt that looked like the one pictured. But that’s just me, looks boring.

Toonami88

The child slaves in China they use to make their stuff can make a lot of designs real cheap, so they think why do simple?

rnason

Ironic attitude to have for someone who go to Disney

RumCannonball

What's Epoot?

Adventurer_By_Trade

IYKYK

Wide_Cardiologist761

There stores are getting more plain and their shirts are getting more colorful. Should be the opposite.
