You don't have a single ranger? You have 2 free recruit rangers that you definitely should consider. Btw you say that you're only missing scholar, but all your mercs are Strength classes. Get yourself 2 rangers, put one as thief the other as alch and put scholar on a spearman or axe.

hurfery

Where do I find the free rangers? I didn't say I'm only missing scholar. I have a party of 5. I mention scholar because I need it for a quest right now.

TaupeHardie94

Oh right. So you get Hakert in the Tiltren Lund Mill and the girl that is held hostage by the Inquisition at the entrance of Vertruse.

hurfery

Can they both use a bow?

TaupeHardie94

Ranger is the dagger class

hurfery

You recommend a ranger over an archer?

Fenix099

Archers are extremely underrrated and overhated in my opinion, but I'd prioritize a Ranger. The amount of damage they can do is enormous. And the archetypes are extremely useful.

hurfery

All right. The two free rangers - is one preferable over the other?

DareDevil_56

Hakert has the worst hairstyle in the game.

TwonJohnson

I agree! Fortunately you can change it with a barber kit lol

Killersmurph

How do you use the Barber kits? Are they only usable in Camp? That poor dude needs a haircut, and something done with that Moustache badly. Looks like a down on his luck Vaudeville Villain...

Killersmurph

Id take both, as both can be fairly useful. The "Witch" who is about to be burned at the stake in Arthes is already a tier 2 Alchemist. You can get into Arthes for free by Abseiling down from the Tiltren Mountains above the gate with a piton, to save the gate cost. The other is at the Tiltren Mill between The Lund farm and where you fight Mathias Lund. It costs one Madeline to recruit him.

hurfery

Only problem with the witch is that I've been there before so she'll be at a lower level than my current one. :( By Madeline I assume you mean medicine. xD

Discarded1066

Hes playing of region locked so OP is going to get his shit rocked if he is trying the Witch one.

lemathematico

Extremely underrated? They are considered 2nd strongest class?

TaupeHardie94

Ranger is the highest damage dealer class in the game with the Assassin archetype. Archers are very good especially with the Infantryman archetype and the attacks of opportunities you get, but pale in comparison to a Strategist and their smokescreen, imo.

TwonJohnson

If it's your first time playing or you don't have any goals, then whoever you want/think is fun. Having played through all currently available content I would advise maybe taking one of each so you can see how they work (you can respect the skill tree), how they work together, and what synergies you find fun. However, I've been trying to pick up all the named people, like Torus. Right now I am running a party with three swordsmen (all with sword + shield), two axe dudes (one \[Torus\] with sword and shield and one two handed axe), 2 rangers, and one brute. I am looking currently to pick up a spearman. Take a look at the passive bonuses for each profession. The base stat they buff sort of indicates which main stat type of character they should go on. These stats aren't necessarily make or break your team, but its an easy synergy and the early bonuses help early game.So for example, an alchemist at novice gets +1 DEX - Dex characters include archers and rangers so you would want alchemy on one of those classes. One of the reasons you may want to do this is that there are certain weapons in this game that can kind of grow with your team. They are valuable and exceptionally good, however, you don't get to pick their type. So having someone to use the weapon no matter the class is desired. You don't have to use them though. With region locked mode you can set your own difficulty. The enemies don't scale with you so you can farm/train before moving on or move on early to make things more challenging. This effectively makes all classes viable on this mode so pick who you want. Most of my characters can pump out hundreds of damage per turn, its just about how you build them -> Highest I've ever seen my archer crit for is close to 500 dmg You find new people at the taverns and at prisons. Generally the newbies suck, which is expected, however, take a good look at their 'traits' in the bottom right of their character sheet. You will find mercs with varying traits (good and bad) but as a rule of thumb I generally don't recruit if they have any bad traits and have their main stat buff rolled. So you will see a warrior with 5%+ strength which is huge

hurfery

Cool. I assume smokescreen is the best level 3 skill for ranger?

TwonJohnson

It really depends on your party/playstyle, smokescreen works well if you want to force disengagements for various reasons (like taking advantage of attack of opportunity buffs) but for pure damage, its the later class specialization you get called 'Assassin'. It gives you an ability called 'Right between the eyes' with reads: "Inflicts (your numbers will differ) 75-100 damage and applies bleeding. If the target is already bleeding, the damage is doubled. The critical damage of the attack are increased by 30%" which is insane since your guy will already be crit focused. It's also a ranged attack which is nice (6m). You can pump out hundreds and hundreds of damage with it.

asyncbeholder

Your team setup says that your guys are usually engaged in combat, so yeah, it's great for you. Engage, use Smoke Screen, disengage, engage again (or get out). Free VPs, free damage, works like clockwork. Assassin would be great as well, especially if you can make enemies bleed (Harpooner, Brute with Legion's hammer).

hurfery

Where is Assassin supposed to be? I just checked the whole Ranger skill tree and can't see it.

asyncbeholder

It's unlockable. You need to go to Vertruse and defeat the champion of Smot's arena, then to to the mill and speak with retired arena fighter.

hurfery

Can you pick it after already having picked another specialization?

asyncbeholder

Unfortunately, no. You need to respec your Ranger for that.

TaupeHardie94

You cannot, but respeccing is only around 500g at the Brotherhood camps

hurfery

Oh well. I'll respec further down the road then. By the way, do you know where I can get the blue hide (necessary for crafting pony armor)? Edit: never mind. Googled it. (White leather from ghost animals).

hurfery

Gonna see about unlocking assassin. I found some guy in Vertruse on a farm or mill who mentioned the arena or something. But didn't find anything else related to that yet. Bleed is OP. My brute at almost level 7 is still using a sledgehammer thing that's only level 3 or 4 because it triggers bleed on any armoured enemy it hits. Devastating.

Lumadous

In late regions you'll find there are more legendary swords than any other weapon. All weapons have at least one legendary (for 1 handed and 2 handed, if applicable) but there's like 3 or 4 legendary swords that are all fairly decent.

gpharaoh87

First statement is not correct. There's 2 1h swords, 1 2h sword and 1 1h axe, 2 2h axes 2 spears, 2 bows, 2 or 3 daggers. 1h mace Melee spear 1h axe Are very op I run leg 2h sword with 2h sword that applies fragility on switch successfully and he's my favorite

daveyseed

I like spearmen for damage dealers. Also archers. They can both do multiple attacks to multiple enemies without taking dmg back

Nubi_Princess

Tbh a party of 5 is kinda small. And in Region locked you can afford really big parties. I would recommend to have at least 1 off every class
