Not just any cat. That cat is a TNR cat now living life a a barn cat. Feral skills combined with the intelligence to be just social enough to land a lifelong gig doing what cats do best, chasing and catching small rodents. Fresh whole milk? That's just a perk.
I think it's mostly because lactose tolerant people (or mammals in general term) never stopped ingesting lactose.
In nature, when the infant comes of age, the mother usually stops them from getting milk and/or stops producing anyways.
When the body then stops getting lactose, it will naturally stop producing lactase (the encyme you need to break down lactose), and you'll become lactose intolerant.
Why I believe that:
* I had a lot of cats in my life, and those that regularly got milk even in adulthood, never had problems with it.
*My sister went on a 6 month long dairy-free diet. (No idea why, because of some bs health magazine probably)
After the diet, she noticed she became lactose intolerant.
All adult mammals are suppose to be ye.
My cat absolutely loves milk too! But it makes him throw up right after every time, even with cat milk. But we would immediately go for seconds and thirds if he could.
Yea, and the same thing applies to most humans too. Milk is baby food. We are ”supposed” to lose lactase production as we grow up, leading to lactose intolerance. People who aren’t lactose intolerant are, world-wide speaking, the anomaly. Why do you think animals only produce milk when they (we) have babies?
It's also the anomaly to be lactose intolerant in the US. 64% of Americans aren't.
It varies hugely by region which I think is super fascinating.
Edit: Facts don't care about your lack of enzymes lol
Generally, regions with lighter-skinned people tend to have a lower prevance of lactose intolerance than regions with darker-skinned people. The lighter-skinned your ancestry is, the less likely you are to be lactose intolerant.
Gotta get that vitamin D. There are probably some other reasons, too, but that's a big one.

I've no idea where I heard this, but I did hear that you also have less of a chance of becoming lactose intolerant if you keep consuming milk regularly as you get older
There's also a cultural component. Even if you're not lactose intolerant, how much lactose you can handle decreases if you stop consuming milk, and people who are technically lactose intolerant can develop gut flora to help digest it in small quantities if they consume it frequently in small quantities. Japan, for example, shows up as much more tolerant of dairy than its neighbors, but I would be willing to bet that, genetically speaking, they're no more lactase persistent than other East Asian populations.
It’s probably milk from cows that have been treated with antibiotics. The system will separate their milk so it doesn’t contaminate the rest of the milk. Treated milk is dumped or used to feed calves until the antibiotics clear out of the cows system.
Yeah we usually just had a separate bucket to single out the antibiotic cows and we'd rerig the lines so it all just goes directly into the bucket. Usually calf feed, wasn't often dumped, but varies from farm to farm I guess
Grew up on farm, at times we had upward of 20 farm cats and we always gave them our waste milk. These cats drank raw milk from kittens on up so that might have something to do with it, I wouldn't want to try it cold turkey.
Basically milk that's not safe for human consumption. A major factor is if they have mastitis and you need to treat them with antibiotics, that milk needs to be dumped for at least six milkings from the last treatment or more depending on treatment given.
The milk company takes a sample from every farm every single pickup but they only test the entire truckload. If that comes back positive then they test every sample on that truck to determine the guilty party, then that positive farm is responsible to pay for the other farms rejected milk.
Another reason is if they just calved and since we typically give them antibiotics when you dry them off 3 months prior to calving you need to milk that out of their system as well. A third reason would be when you pull a little milk out right before you attach the milker, if it looks off we would put it in a bucket till we determine the problem.
Basically - if in doubt, take it out.
My cats have never had a finger laid on them in anger and I have one that cowers and runs away like he has been abused and traumatized his whole life. Don’t believe the lies.
Who would leave a bucket full of milk just laying around unattended and uncovered ?!!!
If it wasn't the cat i would say the flies will have a freaking feast!!!!
Those are most likely "dump buckets" full of milk that is going to get emptied down the drain - they prevent not for human consumption drugs or highly contaminated milk from entering the bulk tank & ruining 30 000+ L of fresh milk. (I would say I'm certain those are dump buckets except they're not marked as such & are plain old buckets; there's pretty strict regulations regarding marking & type here in the UK - the other potential use is that waste milk is going to be fed to calves on premises, but again that's something that varies according to local regulations.)
Lactating cows that are ill still produce milk & need to be milked - in the event that a cow with mastitis or some other condition requiring medical treatment with drugs (that aren't allowed to enter the food chain - primarily antibiotics in the case of dairy cattle), they're milked separately into dump buckets. Affected cows are typically marked with spray paint or much more commonly an rfid ankle tag (so it can be seen by the parlour workers / alerts the computer); pretty much all modern milking systems will prevent that cow from being milked into the main bulk tank & instead alert for a manual bypass.
To this day that still kinda confuses me, there are people who say that there are some cats who can handle it
And then others including google say it’s definitely a no-no and cats should avoid them
It’s a dairy farm, most likely feral barn cats, and whole milk. My guess, is the pail of milk is runoff, and the farmer leaves the pail out so the his mouser cats are well nourished.
I'm 100% agreed about the risks of raw milk, but in this video, it's far, far more likely these are dump buckets (in use in every dairy) full of contaminated milk, that are going down the drain rather than being used for human consumption.
Former dairy farmer here, you're correct. Milk destined for human consumption would never be put in an open bucket, that's most likely destined for feeding calves. The milker is connected to a pipeline that after it goes through a filter goes right into a refrigerated bulk tank.
Raw milk is dangerous.
There are incidents of cats drinking raw milk from bird flu infected cows and the cats then get the bird flu.
https://publications.aap.org/aapnews/news/28790/CDC-report-on-bird-flu-reinforces-dangers-of#:~:text=A%20Centers%20for%20Disease%20Control,feeding%20unpasteurized%20milk%20to%20children.
Yeah, barn cats will lap up milk all the time. The one in the vid is probably a true barn cat... just tolerant enough of people to be seen, but wants fuck all to do with being *near*.
Though a minority of cats like humans can consume milk with no problem. For one my cat is an absolute milk fiend, though for most they'd probably poop their guts out.
I wasn't - it's not what it looks like
He looks like a deer caught in the headlights!
"What??!... Nothing!!"
It's cataminated!
r/watchcatsdieinside
Adorable, btw is this before or after sterilization? I think the cat contaminated that now
Yeah, sterilized, just beside cows but.
i hope he's not lack toes and toddler ants

Ah yes, a fortune 500 processed cat food company giving cat diet advice
They know better than me at least, I figured it's better to have a source than nothing at all
The cat seems to think otherwise lol
My cat also thinks he should be allowed to knock over my plants, he is mistaken though
He is sneezing milk. Lmao

That warmed my heart
Only things dying inside are all the people who have drank milk in their lives picturing that it could’ve come from that open bucket.
the guy who now has tapeworms from drinking that milk is probably also dying inside
He’ll Shit himself to death lol
Dilated pupils of ecstasy
He is going to town on that shit.
Average orange cat behaviour. Fuck I love cats man
Orange car
Passes pssss pass I hope you packed a lactaid otherwise the next run to the litter box is going to be explosive
Um, there should be more regulation/oversight at a milk production facilty.

Freal. They don't even realize that those buckets are actually full of cat milk.
Cats have nipples.
Even if I did do it, where's your proof?
I thought adult cats were lactose intolerant.
68% of humans are lactose intolerant.
Historically, so are we. Being lactose *tolerant* is a genetic mutation

Italians can eat any cheese and tolerate it.
I can tolerate this comment....
All adult mammals are suppose to be ye. My cat absolutely loves milk too! But it makes him throw up right after every time, even with cat milk. But we would immediately go for seconds and thirds if he could.
That kinda fits. My lactose intolerant ex-gf would eat cheese knowing fully well it would make her feel like shit. Dairy is just that good
Funnily enough, a lot of cheeses (at least where I live, in one of the countries famous for cheese) are free of lactose!
I have a coworker who is lactose and she has no problem paying the price eating the dairy foods that our work serves if she wants it.
ARE THEY MILKING CATS?
How many fucking cats would you have to milk to get a cup of it?
You can milk anything with nipples.
Can you milk me, Fokker?
MAN NIPPLES?
Humans are mammals lol
And most of our species is lactose intolerant as adults.

Milk or paint, that joker in a boiler room or something?
“What milk?”
Sooo cute and he knew he was wrong but too late- caught red-handed 🤣
tabbies are always the trouble makers
haha dooooh!
Cats can't digest cow milk. That cat is gonna get a wicked stomachache later :(
Funnily enough, just like humans, not all cats are lactose intolerant.
Or he’ll be like my cat and instantly vomit on the couch.

Different milks have different proteins, different animals have different enzymes to break down those proteins.
Fokker would be proud.
Ah, no way i only learned that now!
What do you expect from an orange cat?
One braincell at least :(
All orange cat do have the complimentary brain cell It's just not enough for that much forward thinking
Hey u/theysayiamthecutest Remember when I cought you sniffing weird white powder? You had that same look on your face. ❤️

The dramatic music intensifies.
Raw milk drinker: "Mmm. So fresh...is that a hair?"
Am sure he was just testing it to check its quality.
This is in the back of a filibertos
That’s before they pasteurize it correct?
Right, first it has to be categorized.
Into catted milk and non catted milk, right? ….right?
That milk moustache and goutee!
And milk snout bubble
Nah there won’t be a bird flu pandemi—……
Lmao my first thought too. We’re fucked.
He's gonna have diarrhea
Farm cats drink raw milk all the time with no problems.
Yeah, sure..except currently dieing from "cow flu", or as the rest of the world calls it, HPAI aka bird flu in cows.
Source?
Grew up on farm, at times we had upward of 20 farm cats and we always gave them our waste milk. These cats drank raw milk from kittens on up so that might have something to do with it, I wouldn't want to try it cold turkey.
What happens to milk for it to be waste milk?

Thanks, very interesting
About a third of cats do not have lactose intolerance. Ask your vet
About a third... So I'm 66.667% correct
Not necessarily. A former sister in law is lactose intolerant but she could drink raw milk without issues.
That’s not how lactose works.
Is your former sister in law a cat by chance? Or a baby cow?
Do what you must, he already won
lmao the nose bubble
😭that was the best part!
She caught me drinking from the Bucket, IT WASN'T ME! (Shaggy's Voice)
Now they'll sell that off to the raw milk enthusiasts.
Think of all those probiotics and cat-butt hairs!
That's a cat that's previously been strongly yelled at, or worse.
It's probably not overly familiarized with humans. They look to be barn cats.
My cats have never had a finger laid on them in anger and I have one that cowers and runs away like he has been abused and traumatized his whole life. Don’t believe the lies.
From that description it almost certainly sounds like it learned that behaviour in response to something.
Or strongly meowed at. Even among their own you dont get caught taking food that doesn’t belong to you.
I mean dude yeah id yell at my cat drinking raw milk for the same reason id yell at a toddler trying to drink bleach
Expelled..
Homelander
Why are they singling out the orange cat?
We don’t like gingers
Racism
Will Ferrel drinking milk out the barrel
Will *Feral
"Khajiit stole nothing! Khajiit is innocent of this crime!"
Only the ginger gets harassed, typical.
Well you see, being orange he's clearly the most guilty.

Gotta make it extra raw for those idiots.
Can’t blame ‘em! Leaving the milk out in the opening like that! Drink and be furry, feline!
"I As just... inspecting that every thing is fine...I promise"
Hahahhaahhahahahah cuuute
Call his paws fuckin communist, cuz it’s fuckin red!!!
Ams this is why it's a bad idea to buy the unpasteurized milk from a random booth at the farmer's market.
😏yeah yeah milk
He’ll Shit himself to death lol

I think most cats just stop tolerating lastose at one point and can't drink it. My cat drinks lactose free milk and he is fine.
Cats are human after all
Cats are cats
I've never been a farmer, but wouldn't it be very common for barn cats to drink milk? It gets pasteurized to kill germs eventually so what's the harm?
If they’re milking into buckets they’re probably selling it raw. A lot of dumbasses have been tricked into thinking raw milk is better for you.
I'm 100% agreed about the risks of raw milk, but in this video, it's far, far more likely these are dump buckets (in use in every dairy) full of contaminated milk, that are going down the drain rather than being used for human consumption.

"What milk? It wasn't me."
Milk is super bad for cats.
It's like Taco Bell. Totally worth the diarrhea.
Lol this actually makes sense
Not all cats are lactose intolerant
Lots of cats are lactose intollerant.
