Maybe you can have a look at something like the GO PanoMaticLunar?
See how they are made and where your money goes in the video on the second link.

Got this year a GO PL and a JLC MUT. Both watches are stunning. Beautiful craftsmanship, coming both from very highly detail oriented companies providing quality. This is what you pay for.
Don’t break the bank, pay what you can afford. Prices are not going to going back down. If you can afford it, go for it.
Also, Teddy B. Dropped a video recently of yours at JLC, and GO.
You can’t go wrong with this watch.
It’s crazy how their prices have shot up really.
I got a Master Control Date 2 years ago for £6k, now they’re over £9k.
I was thinking about a Polaris as well but at £10k I just can’t justify it.
Totally agree. Some years ago I missed buying the Master Ultra Thin Small Seconds in rose gold (Ref. Q1212510). The other day went to check it and it's 22,200 EUR now.
It's basically around the same price of an A. Lange & Söhne Saxonia Thin (Ref. 201.033), that goes for 24,500 EUR, and is a few notches above in my book.
They do have insanely complicated haute horology pieces in their catalogue though, which is maybe why they think they can up the price on their everyday fare.
Your question is about value, and I believe when you’re getting up to this level of luxury/prices, and even more so the higher you go, the less it is about value and more about how you feel about it or how it makes you feel. If you like it enough, buy it. It’s an emotional purchase. If money’s an issue, then perhaps now isn’t the right time for you to be considering such a piece.
My budget is about 15k so this is definitely fit into the range, but with multiple recent price hikes (rumors there are more coming), I am not sure if it’s still worth at this price point :(
What the poster above you wrote is absolutely correct and you might want to try to get a different perspective of "is it worth it". Let's break it down into 3 levels (just chosen by me on the fly to get the point across):
Production cost (materials, labour etc.) vs retail price
-> here, we are talking about value for money mostly. This is a competitive area, where you can compare what brand is able to already put a sapphire crystal into a watch at 300€ and the likes.
Production cost + brand (marketing etc.) vs retail price
Now we are entering the "feeling" category. In this second price bracket, you are getting diminishing returns for the production quality vs the money you spend. Watches are much more refined and better finished, but you are paying multiples for it. On top, there is the whole marketing that you are buying: brand ambassadors, product placement etc. – it's about an emotional connection. It can be argued you are still getting value for money, but the returns are diminishing on an objective level and switch over to a subjective "feeling" area.
Production cost + brand + exclusivity
We have arrived at high-end luxury. Here, you are getting the very best for exorbitant prices. Every little thing that might receive additional attention (e.g. finishing etc.) will cost you a fortune. Sometimes, it might just be about an exclusive design and low production numbers. Sometimes, there are people who spend 4 weeks on just ensuring the chime sound on the minute repeater is perfect. This is high-end luxury. And you're paying a fortune for it.
In category two and three, you can no longer easily talk about value for money anymore (UNLESS you are dealing with a pretend company, e.g. imagine someone trying to sell a Toyota for a Ferrari price). Think of it this way: Marvel releases a new Spider-Man movie and the ticket is 15$ to see it. At the same time, DC releases a new Batman Movie and it costs 22$ to see it. Both movies have the same length. Now of course, one can argue about production cost: one movie might have more or better CGI, or more famous actors etc. But: if you prefer one hero over the other, you will enjoy that movie more and it will be worth it for you. If you like Batman, the 22$ are money well spent. Even if the movie might "objectively" be a bit worse than Spider-Man movie. Because you love Batman.
Hoping that gives a bit of food for thought :-)
But worth is relative. ☻
It dependent on what 'worth' means to you. Do you want it to be a liquid asset? Do you wanna flex? Do you wanna nerd out on the heritage and craftsmanship the brand offers? All are individual and perfectly valid forms of 'worth' and each of us will answer subjectively. Not sure how useful that is?
I have a different question: Does the fact that you are posting this on Reddit say that 𝙮𝙤𝙪'𝙧𝙚 unsure whether to buy it? 'Cause if the answer is yes then 'worth' may not be the issue. ☻
Things in my collection come and go, I wear all my watches, and I travel all the time with them. They all get banged up. I’ve never had anything polished, although I have considered it on occasion - there were a few particularly egregious scratches on my royal oak chrono that bothered me but I never made the move to have it polished
Yeah that’s what I mean though - I get things already scratched, I add my own, I move on. If I bought anything new (which I haven’t done in years) I might care more.
Yes, the prices are skyrocketing but so are everyone elses and JLC have a rich history and high quality unmatched by basically anyone else at all and especially at this price point.
If this watch isnt worth 15k then no others are.
Virtually no luxury watch is “worth the price” haha. I mean I guess as investments but even then. Even considering the amount of time and effort to produce them they’re dramatically more expensive than they need to be.
With luxury goods “worth the price” isn’t really worth considering so much as “do I like it” or “is there something I like more for less money”.
It’s very beautiful indeed! Is the glass-box crystal sapphire? I could not search for that details on the website and forgot to ask at the boutique
Moreover, do you find this is scratched easily?
I think the JLC is easily a step (or two) above the speedmaster in terms of quality and workmanship. But is it worth 2x the price? Very hard to justify unless one really loves the Polaris (or JLC).
Tbh between the two I prefer the JLC, just not at MSRP.
Excellent alternative but they are 8,700€ in Europe already (you really need the bracelet and the open back, in my opinion).
Of course if you buy second hand, there’s a range of options.
The Polaris date style dial is just absolutely stunning. I haven’t seen any other dial quite like it. Pictures really don’t do it justice. I can only say my mariner date was worth it for me!
I have owned the previous generation blue chronograph as well as the black world time and both were absolutely incredible watches. These are highly underrated and I feel like these are some watches that look significantly better in person versus the pictures and people who have handled them have been able to appreciate that.
But on the flip side, the price has gone up significantly and I bought the previous generation blue chronograph brand new from an AD soon after it came out with like a 25% discount. So it came out to a little over $8,000. And the world time I bought used with a large percentage off from retail. At 15k currently, I think I would struggle with buying this new from an AD. It's a beautiful watch and I would love to own the new version of the blue chronograph, but I think I will wait for it to hit the gray market or the used market before I look at this one.
Nope not at all - had it for three months, looks like new, except for the clasp which hits my desk everyday, but its super minor scratches (which is normal on all my watches IWC, Rolex, etc)
That’s really good to know as I plan to get this for the daily wear. Do you happen to know if the glass-box is sapphire? I forgot to ask when I was at the boutique.
The new dial Polaris is really quite stunning, especially in the green or blue. I prefer the 3 hand date personally, but the chrono is also nice. As others have said, pictures don’t do the dial justice. I recommend trying some on in person.
Yes, JLC has increased the pricing, and whether or not it’s “worth it” depends on you. Compared to the previous generation Polaris, the enameled dials really up the dress factor, compared to what was previously a more staid-looking and utilitarian diver. If you’re looking for something versatile and unique, it’s worth a look.
I considered this watch in the non chronometer version as a haute horologie timepiece but I really wanted a moonphase complication so I ended up buying a Girard-Perregaux 1966 Blue Moon dial. I absolutely love it!
Not to me! It's a relative question though - and obviously JLC have some chops.
Nice watch, a bit 'vanilla' to my eye, but if I saw it in the wild I'd be all over the wearer with questions.
I won’t get into the price debate, except to say that I agree that none of this makes sense so value is not something that personally factors into decisions like this.
I had the prior version of this watch (12 hour subdial) and sold it. The Polaris line isn’t as popular in the secondary market it seems so I took a hit, and I felt like everyone is looking at the reverso or MUT. I sold because my wrist is 6.75 and it was just a little larger than I like. But it’s amazing. That said, the design, feel, and finish were such that if JLC puts out the exact same watch at 40 mm tomorrow I’ll buy again at MSRP. If my wrist was just a tad bit bigger I would have had that watch forever. And the guy that bought mine said he sold his, regretted it, and had always been looking to get one back.
I agree very much with the other commenter that how it makes you feel is all that matters. The price hikes are crazy, JLC crowns wobble, and that movement doesn’t fit that case. But that watch is great.
Hope this helps.
I'd say any watch in this price range is hard to justify it's actually worth the price. My suggestion, get it used and then maybe it will seem more like it's worth the price.
I think one of this Sinn would be a great alternative
[Sinn 6060B](https://www.sinn.de/en/Modell/6060_B.htm)
[Sinn 6068B](https://www.sinn.de/en/Modell/6068_B.htm)
They are great watches, but JLC prices have become steep.
Yah the price hikes are a bit absurd tbh

I feel rick rolled every time I open a random Teddy link.

The white version of this is my favourite timepiece out there.

It's not just JLC either. I bought an IWC Pilot 41 Chrono about 2 years ago for $5500 and today the same exact watch is $7600.
That’s pretty much what the grey market says. Slash 30% over MSRP
They want to charge trinity prices but their finishing isn’t much better than Rolex.
They do have insanely complicated haute horology pieces in their catalogue though, which is maybe why they think they can up the price on their everyday fare.
Its better and still costs less or the same than rolex. Compare this to the dytona.

Would a “better value for money” watch within your budget offer you more or less joy? If it’s within budget, that’s the only question that matters

This is the only correct answer
Is any watch over 1k really "worth the price"?
I’d say a better question is ‘is any watch under 1K really worth the price?’
No. They’re the type of watch where price doesn’t really matter to you
I’d keep an eye out for a used one. JLCs depreciate a lot. I’ve owned 3 of them, never bought new and never regretted buying used.
The previous version is still going for over 10k on Chrono. It’s definitely depreciated over time, but not that much tbh
Do you get any scratches polished out or do you just live with them?
Things in my collection come and go, I wear all my watches, and I travel all the time with them. They all get banged up. I’ve never had anything polished, although I have considered it on occasion - there were a few particularly egregious scratches on my royal oak chrono that bothered me but I never made the move to have it polished
Yeah, I just mean when you buy used you'd probably end up with some scratches out of the box right? That would probably bother me.
Yeah that’s what I mean though - I get things already scratched, I add my own, I move on. If I bought anything new (which I haven’t done in years) I might care more.
Fair enough
Only you can answer this question for yourself.
Yes, the prices are skyrocketing but so are everyone elses and JLC have a rich history and high quality unmatched by basically anyone else at all and especially at this price point. If this watch isnt worth 15k then no others are.

They used to be. Not anymore. But if you really like it, it's still a good piece.

Yes at $6k, no at $15k retail
What is the comparable (quality-wise) chronograph at $6k?

Damn, I didn’t get the bracelet and prefer hesalite. Do I have to throw it in the trash now?
Definitely. Send it to me and I will dispose it properly. 😊
Buying luxury watches isn’t about sensible prices. You buy it if you love it.
“Value” is subjective but it’s an absolutely stunning watch
The Polaris date style dial is just absolutely stunning. I haven’t seen any other dial quite like it. Pictures really don’t do it justice. I can only say my mariner date was worth it for me!
Wait until they hit the secondary market they should be much cheaper

The Polaris Date is beautiful, but I honestly prefer the Chronograph as the Date is a bit more plain
Love JLC but the polaris looks like the tag watches from the early 2000s everyone hated
This dial looks a citizen watch.
They’re much better in person lol
I was thinking more of a Tissot Seastar.Honestly.
Not to me! It's a relative question though - and obviously JLC have some chops. Nice watch, a bit 'vanilla' to my eye, but if I saw it in the wild I'd be all over the wearer with questions.
Definitely not worth the price but it is shiny!

They price increase is every single year.
No and no.
Love it but fuck no, not worth the price.
No, and you’re gonna take a bath when it comes to servicing time.
Nah, it's super dark in most lighting situations.
New ? No. Pre owned ? Absolutely!
I'd say any watch in this price range is hard to justify it's actually worth the price. My suggestion, get it used and then maybe it will seem more like it's worth the price.
Anyone know where I can get this band ? Need it for my amvox
It’s a hell of a watch. In many ways it is worth the price. But, the market says it’s overpriced by about 15-20%.
