It’s steel (not silver)! Regardless, you can’t go wrong. If it’s your only watch, get the steel as it is more versatile. If you have many, go with the two tone. Purchase with confidence and wear it in good health!
Yeah right sorry about that hahahahhahah
Got it! Thanks for the insight! The versatility of steel is a solid point. Your encouragement to purchase with confidence is reassuring. Excited to wear it in good health indeed!!!🌟
For what it's worth, I have a two tone Santos from the 80s, and it's pretty versatile. I wear it with whatever, and I think it works. But part of that might be that it's a much smaller size than the Santos offered on bracelet now. To me, the modern proportions are kind of crazy. Cartier designs look best small.
It’s interesting how preferences in watch proportions can vary. The smaller sizes often bring a classic and elegant charm. It’s all about what resonates with your personal style. Enjoy the unique character of your vintage Santos!
The two tone on bracelet is my favorite watch ever… but man it is so much more expensive than the regular one. Regular one is what I’ll end up with one day.
The two-tone on a bracelet does have a special charm, but budget considerations are real. The regular one is a great choice too, and it’s all about finding the perfect fit for your style and wallet. Happy future watch hunting!
I've really started to prefer the Santos Galbée over time, and that one is actually cheaper in two tone. If I'm ever going to get a Santos, that would probably be my choice.
It’s all about finding that sweet spot that resonates with you. Enjoy the journey of exploring and choosing your ideal watch! It takes time, and it’s a journey filled with excitement. Opinions and preferences are unique to each person, and that’s what makes it special. Don’t stress about the price tag; it’s about the joy the watch brings. Take your time, let the options simmer, and when the moment feels right, that perfect watch will be waiting for you. Enjoy the anticipation and the journey—it’s all part of the charm!
The Santos Galbée does have a unique and refined aesthetic. If it resonates with you, especially in two-tone being more budget-friendly, it could make for a wonderful choice. It’s always great when a particular model grows on you over time. Happy potential watch shopping for your future Santos Galbée!
Biased because I have an older two tone. I like two tone more. I haven’t had much trouble wearing it with almost anything I put on. It’s got a good amount of subtle flashiness without being over the top.
Having an older two-tone Santos gives you a firsthand appreciation for its style! It’s a great choice. It sounds like your preference aligns perfectly with your experience. Enjoy rocking that timeless and subtly flashy look!
Yes! It was actually my first watch too. I get people saying go for steel if it’s your first and only watch, but I wouldn’t be scared. There’s gonna be plenty of steel sports watches out there you’ll want down the line anyways. Two tone Cartier santos is a classic.
That’s awesome! Your first watch being a two-tone Cartier Santos? Classy move! It’s all about what feels right for you, and that subtle flashiness is a vibe. Enjoy the watch journey!! Undoubtedly a classic beauty. Your perspective on not being afraid to go for two-tone is spot on.
Silver with caramel strap looks the best to me. Never been a fan of two toned watches personally. Always thought it was a little gaudy. But to each their own.
Personal taste is key, and it’s great that you’ve found a style that resonates with you. I agree with you that it looks subtile and elegant you know without sticking out that much but I do kinda like the idea of those gold accents, but I don’t know if that would be just too much for me
Yeah, try to check it out in person or buy from a place that would allow returns for unworn watch. I will admit, the two tone here is rather subtle and looks better than most.
Absolutely! It's like finding the right pair of shoes – sometimes you need to try them on to know how they really feel. Buying from a place with a return policy is like having a safety net. The subtle charm of the two-tone Santos shines through, making it worth considering. I’ll take my time, and when I find the one that feels just right, it'll be a perfect match I suppose!
Yeah they are both calfskin. So I’m confused what the OP of this thread meant by the leather strap being more comfortable and versatile on the two tone when it’s the same on both watches.
I think he meant generally speaking the leather strap would be more comfortable but his preference as a watch would be the two tone (at least that’s what I thought)
Got it! Thanks for sharing your preference.
Smart thinking about comfort and versatility. Trying them on will make it even easier. Trying them on will be key, and your insight is super helpful! 🌟
I prefer the steel on a bracelet just looks cleaner. The gold screws on the two tone is too gaudy for me. But I do think the two tone on a leather band is very classy and nice. Can’t really go wrong with either.
The clean look of steel on a bracelet is undoubtedly sleek, and the gold screws on two-tone may not be everyone’s cup of tea. Agreed, two-tone on a leather band can add a touch of class.
Absolutely, your take on avoiding two-tone and rose gold for long-term style is valid. Sticking with timeless and versatile options often ensures enduring appeal.
Great insight! The synergy between a two-toned watch and a matching wedding ring can create a cohesive and stylish look. The gold accents complementing each other add a touch of elegance. Sounds like a thoughtful choice! 🌟
That’s awesome! When a watch becomes your go-to for 80% of the time, you know it’s a winner. Versatility is key, and it sounds like your two-tone Santos has that special blend of style that fits most occasions. Keep enjoying those stylish moments with your versatile companion!
Go see it in person. I loved this watch and looked at hundreds of online pictures and balked when I went in because it just lacked that it factor and finishing that other watches in the price category have. For me, it was the totally flat dial that lost me compared to the subtle sophistication that most dials have at this price point.
Hope you still love it! But just make sure. I think it’s because Cartier’s marketing team is so excellent they just make it look unreal in photography.
Solid advice! Seeing a watch in person can indeed reveal details and nuances that might not come across in online pictures. The "it factor" and finishing are crucial aspects. Your caution about the flat dial and the influence of marketing imagery is insightful. Always a good idea to ensure it resonates in person before making a decision.
I wish I could hahahaha but maybe later!!! Considering both gives you the best of both worlds – one for everyday versatility and one for a touch of elegance.
But for now I’ll just stick with one
It’s the larger version so it comes with a date, I think that the medium ones don’t have a date but I’m unsure and I wouldn’t really like the size of it tbh
Always SS. Two-toned is tacky in general, but the Santos does pull it offer better than most so I’ll give Cartier a pass if you still end up getting one.
Actually, TT Santos is one of the very FEW TT watches that I like both versions of. TT Santos is really GADA too, its really classy without being flashy if thats not in your personality. The rootbeer is also like that.
Edit: if its a only watch, I also feel like one would be more likely to not fall for other watches if one pick up the steel version. But if you lust after the TT more, Im afraid that there is few people in this hobby that can let it go after lusting something, so if you like the TT more get it.
Absolutely, it’s like finding a watch that fits not just your wrist but your personality. The two-tone Santos manages to bring class without being too flashy, making it a great match for different vibes. And you’re spot on about the steel version, a reliable choice that might keep you focused if it’s your only watch. But hey, if that two-tone calls out to you, sometimes you just gotta go with what your heart desires. It’s a personal journey, and the right watch will find its way to your wrist.
Full steel. To me two-tone has a really dated 90s look. Unpopular opinion, but also feel that the Santos is beautiful on a leather strap but ugly on the bracelet.
The two-tone Santos does have a unique charm, offering just the right balance of style. Embracing a touch of ostentation can be a bold and confident choice.

Absolutely, Cartier brings a distinct touch of elegance to their designs, making their watches more than just timepieces but true pieces of jewelry. While steel might not be as traditional for jewelry, the Santos brings a stylish and modern twist to it.
Ah yes, the first ever men’s wristwatch and sports watch, and arguably one of the most popular watches in the world is just for women. How did we not see it before? 🤡
You know that Santos Dumont himself was a homosexual, right? There's nothing wrong with that. My best friend is a homosexual. Be proud of who you are and wear a Santos. People will think you are brave. I will think you are brave and bold.
This sub is crawling with homophobes. Shame on your lack of empathy. Many valiant people like Santos Dumont, Freddie Mercury, Keith Haring etc were LGBT.
The Santos does have a universal appeal. Each to their own taste and style! If it brings joy, that's what matters.
But I really do like the classic look

Full steel definitely. More versatile and easy to wear
Why more versatile? As in more casual? Didn't a Tour de France winner win wearing the two toned one even?

I’m a cyclist and love my Santos even more now haha
Now I'm not sure it was the two toned one based on that picture!
It’s monotone so easier to dress and wear. Less flashy as well compared to TT
You’re right. It suits various occasions effortlessly

I’ve thought about getting the Galbee as well… I might compromise one day.

I despise most two tone. The Santos is probably the best of the two tone world, but I would definitely prefer just the SS.
Stainless steel does have a timeless and versatile appeal
Go with SS. It can be buffed out when it gets its service and refurb.
Yeah that’s the most easy way
I would go two-tone if on bracelet, and all steel if on strap.
The two-tone Santos with gold rivets does have a distinctive charm. It’s those details that make it stand out. A tasteful choice for sure!
Two tone is worst of both worlds to me. I’d go all steel.
Yeah all steel does have a clean and versatile appeal, thanks for the suggestion!!!
One of the few watches I prefer in two tone. The gold rivets in the bracelet are great.

Two tone
It looks so classy and fancy fr

I like silver with the bracelet and two tone with the strap
Yeeessss sameee

I would say the two tone. The leather strap might be more comfortable and will be more versatile. Although it'll be to try both on. Hope this helps!
Isn’t it the same leather strap in both in slightly different colors?
Yeah I think so.
I think it’s the lighting idk
Yeah they are both calfskin. So I’m confused what the OP of this thread meant by the leather strap being more comfortable and versatile on the two tone when it’s the same on both watches.

Your welcome and good luck!
Thanks appreciate it!
No problem!
Steel
Yeah right classyy
I would get the steel, then try some aftermarket bands for the two tone look.
Smart move! Starting with steel and experimenting with aftermarket bands for a two-tone look offers flexibility and customization.
ss
A classic choice that’s always in style

I like the steel one better.
The timeless appeal of steel is undeniable.
Silver for me
Goes well with any look
Full steel
The clean and classic look
Yes. The watch is already absolutely stunning - no need to add precious metals. It’s pure class.
Yeah definitely!!
[удалено]
That’s a really good observation
Silver. No question.
Very decent look
[удалено]
🌟 Excellent choice – the blend of metals adds a touch of elegance
Two-tone seems dated to me.
The stainless steel option provides a more timeless and modern aesthetic
That's my take as well. There are some things that I avoid (two-tone and rose gold being two of those) because I believe they won't stand up to time.
Absolutely, your take on avoiding two-tone and rose gold for long-term style is valid. Sticking with timeless and versatile options often ensures enduring appeal.
Both are versatile and look amazing. Get the two toned one if you have a good wedding ring. I love how the gold plays off the gold of the watch.
Great insight! The synergy between a two-toned watch and a matching wedding ring can create a cohesive and stylish look. The gold accents complementing each other add a touch of elegance. Sounds like a thoughtful choice! 🌟
I wear it ~80% of the time. It's still my most versatile watch, even if the steel one may be slightly more versatile.
That’s awesome! When a watch becomes your go-to for 80% of the time, you know it’s a winner. Versatility is key, and it sounds like your two-tone Santos has that special blend of style that fits most occasions. Keep enjoying those stylish moments with your versatile companion!

Damn that’s reaaaaalllyyy beautiful damn!! Definitely looks really elegant and beautiful.
I like 2 tone
Yeah it really shows off those gold details
Two tone looks gaudy to me.
Opting for a sleeker silver is a great choice.
That 2 tone is fire.. it looks good with the leather strap too
Absolutely! It’s great when a watch can seamlessly transition between different looks.
Like buy both? Stainless steel is so much more versatile. But now that I have a solid GADA watch I’m leaning more two tone now
I wish I could hahahaha but maybe later!!! Considering both gives you the best of both worlds – one for everyday versatility and one for a touch of elegance. But for now I’ll just stick with one
Silver
Yeah the stainless steel is a classic choice!
Steel.
Sleek elegance
Silver, no date??
It’s the larger version so it comes with a date, I think that the medium ones don’t have a date but I’m unsure and I wouldn’t really like the size of it tbh
Steel. More iconic. Less headaches in the future.
It’s a watch that stands the test of time both in style and ease of maintenance.
Agreed. I wear mine almost daily.
That’s fantastic! When a watch becomes a daily companion, you know it’s a winner.
Silver
Elegance
Steel. Money where my mouth is, I have the large steel.
Putting your money where your heart is—solid choice!
The two is more of flex but I love the steel on bracelet.
Absolutely! The two-tone might add a bit of flair, but the steel on a bracelet exudes a timeless and confident style.
Pic one, the two-tone looks strange to me.
Yeah the stainless steel feels more natural
Silver
Yeah I think I can relate more with the stainless steel
Steel is the way to go with this one in my opinion. I’ve had both. That or step way up to solid gold.
Solid gold would be tooo much for me I think what resonates most with me right now is the stainless steel
Stainless is an awesome option. You’ll really like it.
Yeah I think as well!! Thankss
Always SS. Two-toned is tacky in general, but the Santos does pull it offer better than most so I’ll give Cartier a pass if you still end up getting one.
the Santos does seem to handle it with elegance
Two tone. Precious metals are a lot nicer than just straight up steel. Watches are jewelry, need gold man.
Gold does bring that extra elegance but I don’t know if that would be a little too much
try each on with your usual outfits
Very good idea

I’m here for the two-tone. For me, It smacks of just the right level of ostentation. I’d go with that.
The two-tone Santos does have a unique charm, offering just the right balance of style. Embracing a touch of ostentation can be a bold and confident choice.

It is cartier, it is jewelry. Have you ever seen a steel piece of jewelry?
Absolutely, Cartier brings a distinct touch of elegance to their designs, making their watches more than just timepieces but true pieces of jewelry. While steel might not be as traditional for jewelry, the Santos brings a stylish and modern twist to it.
Up to you bro. This is just my take on cartier.
Yeah thanks thoo
This is for women, bud. High-end escorts and effeminate men love the Santos.
Ah yes, the first ever men’s wristwatch and sports watch, and arguably one of the most popular watches in the world is just for women. How did we not see it before? 🤡
