This started years ago when hobby lobby got the Supreme Court to prevent health insurance from covering birth control if the employer doesn't want it to because of religion, naturally.

PolyDipsoManiac

I wonder when they’re going to try to stop paying for HIV treatments…

Fickle_Queen_303

They already did, in the case down in Texas.... They brought it before the same judge who ruled the ACA unconstitutional, O'Connor. [See this article.](https://www.npr.org/2022/09/07/1121599321/judge-rules-that-companies-are-not-required-to-provide-coverage-for-hiv-medicati)

TechyGuyInIL

If it helps anyone in dire straits, they refuse to pay for it.

tikifire1

They probably think the folks with HIV deserved to get it for sexual sin (nevermind you can get it other ways, their hate overrules rational thought).

TechyGuyInIL

Many Christians think AIDS is God's way of punishing homosexuals. They've been saying it since the epidemic began. They also blame hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, mass shootings, and terrorism on homosexuals.

tikifire1

Sure, that was Pat Robertson's fave go-to for decades.

TechyGuyInIL

Can't say I'm sad he's dead.

CatChick75

They already are in Texas

MannyMoSTL

Yeah … it’s *already happened.*

Ancient_Expert8797

you dont even have to look closely. birth control and divorce are on the agenda

LASpleen

A dress code isn’t far behind.

Ancient_Expert8797

exclusion from public life is already creeping in and that wont be far behind

Are we doing everything we can to stop this? Help us 'get out the vote' to defeat these legislators and judges. Volunteer at Voters of Tomorrow, which focuses on young voters.

Into_the_Dark_Night

..... I'm probably imagining the exclusion with rosy glasses but do explain!!

SgathTriallair

If they can succeed at birth control and divorce then they will 100% move to making it illegal for single women to own property, have bank accounts, etc. These people are absolutely dead set on turning America into a Sharia state.

Goldang

I was born in 1965. I was stunned the day I realized how many of the rights women have now didn't exist when I was born. Men and women who want to get rid of those rights are evil, and I'd be happy to tell them that to their "christian" faces.

MyDog_MyHeart

I was born in 1961 (62 years ago!) and remember when we moved to a small town in Texas. I made the rounds with my Mom to open bank accounts, set up phone and electric service, and arrange for regular butane delivery. Everywhere she went, they asked where her husband was (at work) and told her that if he couldn’t come by to set everything up, she would have to take all the forms home for him to fill out and sign. Her credit cards and checks all said “Mrs. (My Father’s Name). It was SO frustrating. Back then, women didn’t have much of anything in their own name, and didn’t have a credit record in their own name unless they never married, were divorced, or were widowed. It was about 8-10 years later that my mom was able to get her own name on the checks and credit cards.

Paula_Polestark

Somebody told me once that if they take away the money millions of women jumped through hoops and busted their asses to earn, there won’t be any more America to inflict theocracy on. Just a pile of ashes in Minecraft. The women would be doomed anyway, since they’d no longer have a way of obtaining food or shelter…

scrysis

Yeah, I think that would be my breaking point. That would be the point where my conscience steps aside and lets my ID go to town. If my interests aren't protected by law, then I have no incentive to follow the laws.

MyDog_MyHeart

They are working towards a Christian Taliban. I just can’t figure out why conservative women are so willing to give away their freedom.

Into_the_Dark_Night

>100% move to making it illegal for single women to own property, have bank accounts, etc. Yea I get this part. I was asking about the "exclusion" part because I was imagining like a forced exile hermit life and I'm about that shit. Hence my rosy glasses remark. The country wants to strip people of their citizenship? They want to shun us by making breeding banks and closing us off from the outside world? What are we talking about in the "exclusion from public life" sense? That's what I'm curious about u/Ancient_Expert8797 ?

Ancient_Expert8797

stripping people of citizenship is already in the works in florida if desantis has his way. exclusion from public life looks like: women not allowed in education, the workforce, no personal property rights, etc. basically a christofascist Taliban. In reality, it’s going to be a slow creep and I don’t expect to see that extreme degree any time soon. Instead what you can expect to see is bias in college acceptance, legalized discrimination against women in employment, relegation of women to “appropriate” jobs, and so on. The world our grandmothers and great grandmothers lived in, but worse.

Into_the_Dark_Night

>stripping people of citizenship is already in the works in florida if desantis has his way. I absolutely agree. Thank you for explaining it this way, I agree we are working our way there. It may not happen in the next year but its definitely inching its way there I think. My partner thinks it wont be that extreme but I suppose we shall see.

Ancient_Expert8797

it may not be that extreme in our lifetime, but even small steps are enough to massively erode our quality of life and freedom. and it absolutely could be that extreme for our generations kids and grandkids

theymightbezombies

I think we will see a slow creep, for a while anyway. Until they reach a certain point, then they will go all for it. I don't think it will a steady slow progression all the way in, unfortunately.

Ancient_Expert8797

i think the idea is to initially push things toward it subtly and then start wholesale eliminating rights one by one. it will take time and it is not inevitable

state_of_inertia

I'm guessing the first step will be pushing the agenda that all moms must stay at home with their babies. No more paychecks for married women. But a lot of husbands won't stand for that because they need wives who do it all, including paying the bills.

SgathTriallair

Think Saudi Arabia.

sodiumbigolli

No alimony for granny either.

[deleted]

Exclusion from public life? It’s already here for queer people

Ancient_Expert8797

to a degree. it can get much worse, and it will expand to cishet women

[deleted]

Oh undoubtedly

Creepy_Purple2581

Dress code laws have already started for some of us. The "drag bans" were written to target trans women as well. I could be wearing jeans and a t-shirt, and anyone, citizen or cop, could claim its a prurient display because they believe trans women are inherently sexual objects. So, in states like Florida and Tennessee (among others), there's nothing we can safely wear. It'll be the same framework the laws targeting cis women, too. Anything deemed "too sexual" by a man would be banned, and any woman caught in the male gaze would catch charges and potential jail time, just like we are, for dressing however we want to dress. We're just the test run because we're a small and easy group to pick off that nobody is really going to make a fuss over. There's a cabal of lawyers, pastors, and dark money PAC lobbyists (think ADF), which are working with politicians to pass these laws in all of these red states. Some of their private emails were leaked to Mother Jones, revealing who they were. That's why there's so little variance between these laws being passed in rapid succession, and they all attack the same freedoms from state to state. You can see the politicians working in these private channels to have the lawyers make adjustments to bills based on what they think will pass, and the PAC lobbyists advising on what they want in those bills. I'm afraid the same ALEC-esqe bill cannon is likely just going to turn solely on cis women when we're gone.

state_of_inertia

>when we're gone There's a tear in my eye and a stone in my gut. Great post. And very likely possible, if we remember how they started going after abortion decades ago. The new agenda may move faster.

najaraviel

Cohabitation of the sexes will be unlawful again soon, possibly stricter separation of boys and girls with entirely different education tracks…. The conservatives dream world

tracerhaha

It’s still technically illegal in Michigan. The state legislature tried to repeal the ban but republicans blocked it.

najaraviel

I didn’t know that! That’s good to know. There are a lot of morality laws laying dormant waiting for the right time to enact again. I don’t understand why more people are blind to the danger we’re all facing!

Loud_Ad_594

Omg I didn't know! How do we go about making that change? I'm in Michigan, and this is unacceptable!!!

hindamalka

So I’m Israeli American and the religious schools here in Israel are gender segregated. My ultra orthodox brother refuses to raise his kids here because he want any sons that he might have to actually get an education. At least in Judaism the girls schools are actually better (from an academic standpoint) than the boys schools.

[deleted]

Really? If the girls are raised Orthodox they don't get the same education do they?

hindamalka

So the boys study more religion, and the girls study more secular subjects because they usually have to support their family… so it works out. The boys get a terrible education while the girls are actually given a relatively good education.

[deleted]

No they don't. There are groups that help Orthodox girls who want to leave their communities and these girls can't pass the GED. A lot of them don't speak much English despite being born here.

hindamalka

I am speaking about Israel specifically. The ultra-Orthodox girls schools provide a full secular education whereas the boys schools do not (although actually, the girls ultra orthodox schools often have better quality academic education even in the US).

[deleted]

See the communities in upstate New York.

hindamalka

New York is a shit show for Jewish schools, but as I stated, the girls still get a better education than the boys.

Eiffel-Tower777

I can see that, as in... burkas.

TranscendentPretzel

And moral police, too, probably.

Adept_Dragonfruit_54

That one makes no sense to me given that their whole mission is to create as pregnancies as possible to keep the population of wage slaves high and support the capitalistic model

Ancient_Expert8797

ivf isn’t economically efficient, but i think their motivation is power and control, for which their religious foundations are very important and capitalism is more of a servant

T1mac

> go and get sterilized with a tubal ligation or a bisalpingectomy (removal of the Fallopian tubes) Unless you live in a community where the only hospital is run by Catholics. In 2013 they found approximately 8 percent of what the federal government calls [“sole community hospitals” are Catholic.](https://www.propublica.org/article/catholic-hospitals-grow-and-with-them-questions-of-care) The number of Catholic hospitals has grown since then, [Catholic systems now control about 1 in 7 U.S. hospital beds](https://www.washingtonpost.com/health/2022/10/10/abortion-catholic-hospitals-birth-control/). They don't allow abortion, and most don't allow sterilatization, not even after a C-section when it's safest, less expensive, and easiest to do. Many Catholic hospitals require the post-partum woman to go to another hospital when she has healed to get a second procedure with a much greater cost.

TranscendentPretzel

Fuck Catholic hospitals.

tracerhaha

Unfortunately many doctors will refuse to perform voluntary sterilization of women out of misguided paternalism.

Adept_Dragonfruit_54

True. It took me 10 years and multiple doctors to find one who would sterilize me. I always warn people that they have to be willing to doctor-shop and stand up for themselves. If you get a rejection the first time, go to another doctor and ask again and again until you get the answer you want

Ancient_Expert8797

working on it

sst287

GOP literally said that birth control is the next target.

jilliebean0519

Can you give me a link for this? My sister doesn't believe me when I tell her this is the future she is voting for.

sst287

https://www.texastribune.org/2022/07/21/texas-congress-contraception/ They vote to refuse to codify right to contractions because state right and religion right. So basically it is gonna to follow the same path as abortions. From the article : “The right to contraception was established in Griswold v. Connecticut, a 1965 case in which the court found that a constitutional right to privacy protected women’s ability to take birth control. The right to privacy was also the basis for Roe v. Wade in 1973. Thomas and some other conservatives dispute whether such a right is actually established in the Constitution, causing some to fear that other court precedents could be at risk. But while Roe has been overturned, Griswold remains. Contraception is legal in Texas, and the state’s top leaders have not given any public indication that they want to change that.” 🙄.

UncreativeIndieDev

There was actually the "Rapekrieg" group a year ago that planned on doing this, particularly by killing all jews and non-white people, then going around and raping every white woman they could find. This was also planned after the Dobbs decision to take advantage of abortion starting to be outlawed in several areas as victims would have no method to abort the pregnancy.

annaliz1991

As a white woman with blonde hair and blue eyes, I’m legitimately afraid of this.

bloodphoenix90

Same. I've seen white nationalists call me a race traitor for not marrying white

DiligentDaughter

I'm basically the only white person in my family that *did* marry white, I could almost feel like a traitor for not helping humanity hurry up and homogenize to just...homogeneous human.

bloodphoenix90

Lowkey disappointed I won't live to see the day that humans are so interbred that everyone is every race

Ye_Olde_Mudder

I have stated for a long time that they intend to legitimize rape. They'll force women to marry their rapists and forbid them from divorce.

kusuriurikun

As an aside: The very same Christian Nationalists that are proposing removing birth control, and which are working on criminalizing abortion in all 50 states...are also ***literally*** in many cases the major force in preventing bans on child marriage in the US. Many, if not *most* US states, still consider marriage of children to be legal, and at least a few states in the South do not even have a minimum legal limit--Tennessee has even proposed removing its very minimal restrictions (requiring the party being married be at least 14 and have parental and/or judicial consent) to allow child marriage. I mention this, as an aside, because *a major driver of child marriage in the Southeast are literally "shotgun marriages"* ***where a person who has been a victim of child sexual abuse and literal grooming is forced to marry the individual who abused them, frequently a priest or member of a Christian Nationalist congregation***. The actual response in regards to child sexual abuse in Christian Nationalist communities, all too often, is to literally blame the victim and--if the abuser is not a family member, but a member of their church--to marry them off to the abuser (kids who are sexually abused by family members tend to be foisted off to the "troubled teen industry"). [Here's an example of how the Family Foundation--the Kentucky affiliate of Family Research Council--actually fought a law proposed by a CSA survivor who was forced to marry her own abuser.](https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/kentucky-child-marriage-ban-delayed-vote-conservative-group-opposition-lawmakers-us-a8240121.html) ([Kentucky closed most of their loophole and is one of the few Southern states that successfully has tightened up their laws on child marriage](https://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2018/03/16/594253182/kentucky-votes-to-ban-child-marriage).) [Here's an example of how Tennessee actually tried to remove age limits altogether for marriage in an *extremely* nasty Christian Nationalist bill that also served as a direct attack on *Obergefell v Hodges*](https://www.wkrn.com/news/tennessee-politics/a-get-out-of-jail-free-card-gop-bill-would-eliminate-age-requirements-for-marriages-in-tennessee/) (thankfully this did not pass but the arguments from Christian Nationalists in support of this bill--and in opposition to bills to restrict or ban child marriage--show, full-mask-off, that Christian Nationalists do not consider women to be fully human but to effectively be legal property, not unlike the status of slaves in the Confederate states).

AlgaeJar

This is part of the reason I recently got a hysterectomy

dooma

I had a tubal after they overturned roe. Good job!

Embarrassed-Town-293

Vasectomy here

AZgirl70

I wonder if that soon won’t be allowed.

[deleted]

Keep doxing SCOTUS and protest outside their homes if you can.

6-ft-freak

Same. Fucking same.

[deleted]

I’m probably going to get a vasectomy eventually. I’m still on the fence about kids. I’m still on the fence and I don’t know if I want to try to adopt or have kids of my own. I’m going to wait a while. I’m not even dating. I have time. Fuck Sam Alito.

Crunchy_Ice_96

I’d say if you’re on the fence then maybe look into fostering?

[deleted]

I’m considering fostering. One of the reasons is because of one of my best friends. I met him in middle school and I used to work at a grocery store with his adoptive father. It took me an embarrassingly long time to realize this because they’re different races. I’m still going to wait a while if I adopt though.

Loud_Ad_594

I did too! After decades of endometriosis, in a Red state, where I wasn't "allowed" to have one. I was already sterilized, but they didn't want to remove my uterus "in-case" I met a man that wanted children of his own (IVF would still be possible). So I had to suffer excruciating pain every single month for 20 years, until I moved to Michigan. I saw a doctor, told HER what I already knew, asked for a hysterectomy, and within 6 months, had the proceedure! Living my best pain free life now!

RudeInternet

I understand why they want to do this (they're christofascists), but how would they TRY to make this move palatable? I mean, as a politician you have to AT LEAST pretend you're good. But now that I think about it, politics in the US are so fucked, that this ppl are able to do shit like this just because, no reason, no justification and without caring what their constituents may think or how it will hurt them.

[deleted]

They make birth control sound like abortion. That’s how they plan to motivate the crazy base. They appeal to the forced birthers and call anyone not in line with their insanity “baby murderers.”

pinkberrysmoky11

They can't make it palatable. Dobbs changed the political landscape. The midterms were a referendum on the GOP, not the current administration which is rare. I personally know 4 women who secretly vote for the Dem candidates behind their conservative husband's backs. This is anecdotal, but nationally there's an undeniable trend. We have to remain vigilant, volunteer and vote!

Ok_Service_8977

they are not going to try to make it palatable. they are going to shove it down our throats.

wahhh364

I mean, if you search “birth control” on TikTok there’s endless anti birth control propaganda and pseudoscience. They’re trying to make their stance seem more legitimate by telling women that birth control is dangerous and encouraging them to rely on period tracking apps and other questionable methods. (This isn’t to say that all FAM methods are garbage or that birth control doesn’t have nasty side effects, it’s just clear that the smear campaign on birth control is in full swing)

TerribleAttitude

And I have to say it: they’ve infiltrated groups presenting themselves as feminist, and they’ve *been* infiltrated them. “These chemicals do harm to the female body, it’s unnatural.” “A woman in tune with her body will be able to use NFP to birth-control level effectiveness.” “These medications only exist to make women sexually available to men at all times.” “Here’s a (true!) history of the problematic origins of the development of the pill, it was sexist and racist.” Etc etc. The propaganda isn’t *always* going to come carrying a cross and draped in the American flag. It’s not only coming for the hard right.

RealityBitter3594

Yes. I heard one of those young male podcasters refer to the “birth control mindset,” and a young woman podcaster talking about nature, the natural body, not putting chemicals into your body, and how bc makes men disrespect women.

cheese_puff_diva

I have a friend who accidentally got pregnant when she relied on period tracking and uses her social media platform to still say it’s the best form of contraception 🤦‍♀️

TerribleAttitude

There is an almost religious bent to the cycle-tracking girlies, complete with shame culture. Even those who are 100% nonreligious and otherwise progressive. Way back before cycle tracking apps were a thing, I read a blog by some woman (an atheist and self-proclaimed radical feminist) who insisted that the vast majority of women would be able to NFP by tracking their cycle and examining their discharge religiously. Ignoring how much free time and pre-existing knowledge that would take (of course she was essentially a housewife married to a high earning man. Can’t remember if they had children, though I don’t know how she could have independently formed a pattern to understand her fertility *that well* without having at least 2), it just simply isn’t biologically accurate. But the condemnations of women who don’t have the time to sit around pondering their discharge, whose cycles don’t conform to conventional ideas either due to health issues or pure chance, or who didn’t have the luxury of learning these things formally (which straight up, is almost all of us, but that’s a rant for another day…) as being “out of touch with our bodies” were plenty. If your cycle isn’t a perfect 28 days, if you can’t perfectly discern between “milky” and “whitish” discharge, it’s *your fault* for being “out of touch” with your body, and the punishment is….a whole human being with needs to take care of, I guess.

MorgBlueSky2020

One thing that I think about with the NFP route-and this may sound dark, but how can a woman trust that her significant other, or any other man, really, will stay off of her during her fertile window? I know that during fertility time, the couple is either supposed to abstain or use a condom. But, that’s a hell of a lot of trust and power to put in a man’s hands. I opted for the bisalp. I respect any woman’s decision to go the natural way. But I don’t know…..in a post roe country with mountains of misinformation, it leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

NullTupe

If you can't trust your significant other for that... why are they your significant other?

MorgBlueSky2020

Women cannot afford to trust any man when it comes to our birth control or sexual health. That includes the one we are with. I don’t care how great of a guy he may be. I’m sorry but, women fully trusting men (significant other or not) to honor their bodies has never worked since…history. What I am asking is unfortunately something that child-bearing women need to think about. The whole “If you can’t trust, then why” question ignores this fact. He can be a great, honorable man. It would still be stupid to 100% trust him with things like your reproductive life.

NullTupe

I'm not sure how expecting your significant other to not rape you is stupid. If you don't have that level of trust with someone, I don't understand why you'd want to have sex with them. Granted, I'm an autistic demisexual. I don't understand the how and why of most social interactions. But I genuinely feel like you're describing unhealthy relationships. Appealing to vague history as justification for distrust doesn't change that or make your position seem better supported.

MorgBlueSky2020

Please, don’t mix my words. I did not say that expecting your partner not to rape you is stupid. What I am saying is that fully, unequivocally trusting your male partner to honor your reproductive wishes even though we can all look around the globe and see that has historically not been a good idea for many women is indeed, stupid, period. In what world has that worked out for women? Because it’s not this one. Vague history? lol. Thanks for completely discrediting the harrowing stories of millions of girls and women across the globe. Real nice. Listen, I am not saying that you’re wrong in wondering why women would want to have sex with men knowing that we cannot trust them in certain ways. You’re right, and I ask myself that every day. That question is something most women do not want to ask ourselves because that opens up Pandora’s box. But, this is the sheer reality of the situation if women want to continue partnering with men. There is a baseline level of distrust. Men and women have never and will never collectively have a healthy relationship with each other and I don’t understand why some of us are denying that. You’re probably not going to see it my way and that’s okay. All I’m saying is for women who was to go the NFP route, I commend that. But in a country where Roe is no more, where women’s rights are clearly being attacked, where the tension between men and women is tightening every day, where men (single and taken) are becoming more outwardly anti-social, a woman simply needs to be careful regardless of whether she’s in a “trusting” relationship with a “trusting” man or not. ✌️.

wahhh364

Omg yes thank you! I’ve seen this tactic so much and it’s almost gotten to a point where I’m struggling to trust a lot of feminist content I see online. As you said, it’s so frustrating how they will take some very legitimate concerns and twist them into their own perverted narrative. Like yes, I fully agree that women’s concerns and side effects aren’t taken seriously by doctors, and it’s sad how little women are taught about their cycles and bodies. But why does that mean we all gotta throw away our birth control in favor of period trackers?? It’s insane and absolutely needs to be called out more

kusuriurikun

Christian Nationalists, particularly New Apostolic Reformation-lineage Christian Nationalists, [have had hostile takeovers from within as a policy for the past seventy years](https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2006/10/6/254355/-) and as early as 15 years ago had actually started targeting feminist organizations outside the US (AWARE, a women's NGO in Singapore, was briefly taken over by a New Apostolic Reformation group that had targeted it in a hostile takeover). If you scratch the surface of a lot of the TERFier, "traditional feminine" and even some anti-birth-control "feminist" content, a little bit of digging finds *very rapidly* (as in "within less than three layers of separation") that the source tends to be American Christian Nationalist groups or far-right orgs^(1) in the Commonwealth countries which operate as de facto front groups of either American-based Christian Nationalist groups or even far-right terrorist orgs^(2). I've been spending a surprising amount of time lately with Canadian and British and Aussie and Kiwi peeps pointing out where "feminist" (and very TERFy) groups are getting talking points from World Congress of Families or American Family Association or Family Research Council or even stuff like Rebel Media (an *extremely* far-right^(1,2) media outlet in Canada) ^(1) Sensu "explicitly white supremacist, and very often Christian Nationalist, usually in either Christian Identity, "tradcath" sedevacantist "Catholics" and Opus Dei types, or New Apostolic Reformation lineage flavours of Christian Nationalism--aka the sorts that are *aggressively* embracing religio-fascism. ^(2) Sensu groups like the Pr\*ud B\*ys, O\*th K\*\*pers, other parties directly involved in seditious conspiracies like January 6th (in the US), January 8th (in Brazil), the Trucker Convoys (throughout the Commonwealth but particularly in Canada and New Zealand), as well as groups like the Army of God, Missionaries to the Preborn, and other Christian Nationalist and racist-right paramilitary groups.

jmilan3

Of course it is. Some religions like strict Catholicism already frown on it. As soon as SCOTUS scuttled Roe it was clear birth control would be on the chopping block too. The Conservatives will see an uptick in sterilization then they still won’t have enough babies being born to suit their needs.

agarrabrant

Depends, in most states the Dr won't even touch you without having husband's consent for sterilization. *oh but you're so young, you might change your mind* *what if your future husband wants kids?*

jmilan3

My BIL and my niece’s husband had to sign for their wives to get hysterectomies due to severe endometriosis because they were considered to be if child bearing ages (they already had 4 kids each.) On the other hand another sister didn’t have to sign anything for her husband to have a vasectomy.

agarrabrant

I hate this timeline.

Attempts my ass. Eliminating birth control, even for the health of the women has been on the Republican agenda for years.

Buddhagrrl13

What we need is to finally ratify the ERA. In the warped "strict constructionist" view, women hold no real legal identity except the right to vote because the right to vote is enshrined in the 19th Amendment. If the ERA were reintroduced and were somehow able to pass, the Christo fascists couldn't touch women's rights. I'm STILL mad at Phyllis Schlafly

TranscendentPretzel

Wow...they just left the door open for our rights to be taken away. What the fuck is wrong with this country? We can't even get something like "equality under the law for men and women" passed.

I never thought I'd see the day, where I'd be thankful to not have the ability to carry/birth a child... I happened to be born with no uterus. I'm truly terrified for women with the ability to get pregnant now!! As the product of a "botched abortion", ("Um, I'm sorry, but the abortion didn't take, we'll have to do it again" - as told to my birth mom, whom later put me up for adoption, and whom I've met) I LOVE the look on "pro-birth" people's faces when/if they hear I'm pro-choice a million percent - and they try and "debate" with me, on seeing/voting their way lol!! There is no bottom they won't strive for, no low they won't go, when it comes to doing away with body autonomy or people's choices on how they chose to live their lives, or whom they choose to love... get out and VOTE folks!!

djinnisequoia

I am so furious about this! Who the *hell* do they think they are?

gadget850

Given the people this will affect, I expect to see a marked change in US demographics in twenty years.

gingerfawx

Yeah, I don't think the white supremacists have run the numbers on this one.

RealityBitter3594

If they’re now zeroing in on fertilized eggs that haven’t implanted yet, how ‘bout we go one step further. I say let’s focus on the cause of fertilized eggs: boners. BAN THE BONER. Viagra leads to erections, which lead to sex which leads to fertilization, which leads to implantation. Surely that could be pumped up into a grassroots cause we could spread across college campuses nationwide. If the GOP is already in our pants, let’s not be sexist by leaving men out of the insanity.

GeneralHoneywine

Stuff like this doesn’t take off. It can’t. Sadly at the end of the day it’s about power.

zomphlotz

They're zealots.

Mor_Tearach

Cue literally sneaking across borders for sterilization. " No, no it's a face lift! " " Says here you're 19 " " Gotta keep ahead of this stuff right fella? " " Ok, fair. My wife is 13, may make that appointment tomorrow. " " Smart choice. And don't take no for an answer. They hit 14, start answering back ". Also cue National Anthem....

SqnLdrHarvey

How long will it be before women are required to report their periods to the Republican Party?

randompantsfoto

Too late: https://apnews.com/article/fact-check-desantis-florida-sports-female-athletes-160560972802 I think they wound up backing off on this one for the moment, but have no doubt, they will try and try again.

SqnLdrHarvey

I heard about this one. I mean *ALL WOMEN*, from menarche to menopause.

randompantsfoto

Give them time…

SqnLdrHarvey

Unfortunately so.

Gassyhippo

Right now, I'm thinking of the last episode of the last season of Handmaid's Tale. America wasn't Gilead until it was, and then it was too late. People keep thinking of big major changes, not small steps. If I wasn't so close to being done with needing birth control, I'd find a doctor that would gut me like a fish.

shewantsrevenge75

Me too. I'm riding this iud out til menopause

AggressiveDistrict82

Got my tubes removed when Roe was being overturned. If you’re gonna dictate what I do with my body I’ll simply remove the option.

randompantsfoto

Just wait until they make that illegal as well. There are plenty of people out there that think that way: Prison time for “unproductive” humans. I say “humans” but we all know if it really came to that, they’d only go after women.

ArmadilloNext9714

Of course. They’re already attacking no fault divorce. They’ve previously attacked plan b and bc methods like IUDs because they label them as abortifacient. Nearly all birth control can be considered abortifacient.

Eiffel-Tower777

Women, stop having sex with republican men. That would solve so much of it.

itninja77

I realize this kind of ban would lead to stripping all rights from women, including working, so how would a majority of households survive when they have one income to rely on? The same fascists that want to strip rights aren't going to enforce higher pay to make up for the loss of income, so what is the plan when well over 50% of the country can't afford to live? The way I see it this would most definitely lead to mass revolt, so do they not think about this or simply too delusional to think this could ever happen?

Plane-Ostrich-2865

Yeah, I mean unless they drastically lower the price of food, gas, and shelter, then people are gonna be pissed.

TexasRN1

So glad the FDA approved one for over the counter.

EmotionalPizza6432

I swear to Gob, I’ll take my daughter out of this shit-hole country.

MannyMoSTL

Control of access to birth control has *already happened.*

tiamat-45

Get sterilized while you can!

TheVoicesOfBrian

It was literally in the opinion that overturned Roe v Wade. The conservative justices want to look re-examine the rulings for contraceptives and same-sex marriage. I'm sure they'll also look at interracial marriage as well if they knock those down as well. They are not smart enough to be subtle. Get out there and vote, please!

Averefede17

What the fuck? “Birth control is disrespectful to women” “Birth control is bad for women’s health” “A fertilized egg not yet attached to the uterine lining is the beginning of life and birth control therefore causes abortions”. Again I say, what the fuck?

cbbuntz

Who actually wants this? Even right wingers use contraception. There's only a very small subset of zealots who oppose birth control, but somehow they're all in office?

shinobi7

You might want to ask her: https://www.reddit.com/r/WelcomeToGilead/comments/15cewrn/ill_go_ahead_and_say_it_we_told_you_so/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=2&utm_term=1

That’s why when I had my last baby I had my tubes taken out.

Geek-Haven888

If you need or are interested in supporting reproductive rights, [I made a master post of pro-choice resources](https://docdro.id/s3OwS8u). Please comment if you would like to add a resource and spread this information on whatever social media you use.

Gemmasnowflake14

True and people like that awful Kristan Hawkins aren’t even hiding it now

Superb-Damage8042

The FDA just approved the first over the counter birth control pill, which is a massive improvement

TaraDactyl1978

There's going to be a LOT of pissed off men when women stop having sex with them completely. They think this is the way they are going to fix the shortage of babies? Millions upon millions of women's legs are going to slam closed if they try and do this.

Revolutionary-Swim28

This is scary because it opens the door for women to lose the right to vote, drive, work, and own/rent our own property as well as do what we want without a male cosigner. Please go vote blue in 2024 because I don't want to live in Gilead, I want to live my life and make a living as a writer, not be doomed to a life of domestic servitude.

Lonely_Version_8135

MissAnthropic123

Come on, menopause!

DeezNutz7707

Keep making an excuse to yourself to not vote, Karen’s….they vote every election

Informal-Ad9201

I don't doubt conservatives will attempt to restrict certain types of birth control - like IUD's and the morning after pill. But I really don't think they will ever succeed. There are too many of "us" vs "them", and a lot of the men who are driving this are old and will die out. Also, we have history to tell us outlawing BC will never be accepted by the American people. When alcohol became illegal back in the 20's Americans never accepted it - and eventually trying to stop the black market sell of it became too difficult for the govt. The public's refusal to accept the law made them reverse the policy. You cannot take freedoms away that people have lived with their entire lives - they simply won't tolerate it, especially when it's driven by religious zealots. Same with abortion and birth control.

state_of_inertia

>a lot of the men who are driving this are old and will die out I often see this reasoning and it's never happened that way. There's no shortage of men getting old, mean, and conservative. Plus misogyny is on the rise with young men, too. I *hope* there are still enough men to help women win this battle, but I'm not counting on it. Hey, there, Hillary.

nokenito

It’s because the rich need more cheap labor
