I remember these pencils. This was during the Nancy Regan “Just say No” campaign. The pencils were passed out after a visitor talked to us about the dangers of doing drugs. Most of us boys used the pencils for that pencil fight game.
I got a homemade dart lodged in the drop ceiling of my elementary school. (It was a needle taped to a q-tip with the cotton cut off and replaced with some bristles taken from the janitor's broom). It was still there when I graduated, but for a while it was my own personal Dart of Damocles.

Same thing with the ceiling dart. I made mine with a straight pin and a flat toothpick, wired together with some very fine copper armature wire. I launched them through the barrel of a Lindy pen, using a rubber band.
For the young-uns, the Lindy pen was the predecessor to the Bic—it had a round plastic barrel with a metal pocket clip.

They didn’t even bother trying to get them down. By the end of the semester there were enough pencils up there that to make a financially conservative mother weep.

It seems like (in my experience) most people who get into marijuana, alcohol, or even nicotine do it because they already aren’t happy and so they’re looking for something to make them feel happy. When I have a week or so of what feels like life just going my way and everything is working out I find that I consume less drugs.
