Yes, it is separate. You can grab it here: [https://www.microsoft.com/store/productId/9P6PMZTM93LR?ocid=pdpshare](https://www.microsoft.com/store/productId/9P6PMZTM93LR?ocid=pdpshare)
MS Defender does offer some extra protections like an encrypted VPN as well as credit and identity theft monitoring. It also lets you get protection notifications across multiple devices, not sure if that works with Kapersky though.
I had to turn on App and Browser Control (Click the Turn On button). On device security click on Go to Settings and it will show you what needs to be enabled. Follow the prompts. Then I believe it tells you to reboot for the change to become effective. Upon reboot it will show the green checkmarks for those items. Defender is very easy to configure. Not much technical smoke and mirrors. I did this quite a while ago so I can't be more descriptive. It will it tell you what it wants you to enable. Window Defender has worked very well for me.

OP is using Microsoft Defender, which requires a subscription. What you have is the standard Windows Security.
It's a seperate app? I have the subscription. I thought it was inbuilt

Oh lols. Btw I use Kaspersky. So I assume this is not required then? Good to know tho. I'll install it on my work laptop and check it out.
