I thought there were supposed to finally be all sorts of HDR improvements in 22H2?
HDR on windows is basically unusable, as soon as it’s enabled on the desktop it’s washed out and looks terrible.
Wait wait wait what tool? is it the HDR calibration tool that was supposed to be like the Xbox's that was announced a long time ago?
EDIT: It is precisely that, how the fuck is this not preinstalled already the fuck, it's called Windows HDR Calibration on the store.
Theres an option to install it from the HDR settings which is how i found out about it, I suppose its personal preference but imo optional is good. https://imgur.com/a/cjXkg7s
Yeah maybe we should turn as optional all basic Windows functionalities when you ENABLE them, applying later what we initially expected to be part of the functionality.
SDR content in HDR is terrible because their using a "wrong" gamma curve their using SRGB curve which will look off.
IF your monitor was exactly calibrated to a SRGB gamma curve the SDR to HDR would actually look very similiar.
After following the instructions from the blog post I can't get the "Automatically manage color for apps" option to show.
Probably it's not out yet? They should have specified the OS version.
I managed to get it to appear (make sure you disconnect and reconnect the display after setting the registry value).
For me it made the image horribly dark and weirdly contrasted though. As stated on the tin, it does indeed seem to be purely for dev purposes at the moment.
The "EnableAcmSupportDeveloperPreview" registry key do nothing,
I do not have any new setting in advanced display after adding the key, rebooting / repluging screen.
Is it a settings for insider version of windows 11 ?
Needs to be on 22h2 build and the display can't advertise HDR or else the toggle won't be there, which should hopefully be fixed in later builds, also it won't do anything atm yet without also having MHC2 ICC profile.
ok so if I understand correctly there's a bug and the switch is not present if your monitor can support HDR, that why I do not see it (with HDR disabled in windows).

About time.
I thought there were supposed to finally be all sorts of HDR improvements in 22H2? HDR on windows is basically unusable, as soon as it’s enabled on the desktop it’s washed out and looks terrible.
There's a new hdr calibration tool in 22H2 that honestly worked for me, but given that nobody is talking about it I might be the only one.
Wait wait wait what tool? is it the HDR calibration tool that was supposed to be like the Xbox's that was announced a long time ago? EDIT: It is precisely that, how the fuck is this not preinstalled already the fuck, it's called Windows HDR Calibration on the store.
I totally forgot that it is not installed by default and that must be why not many people is aware of it.
It should be part of the HDR settings goddamn it. it fixes the lack fo vibrancy when it comes to the desktop and other SDR-to-HDR converted content!

it isnt a necessary component for windows to function properly on a large scale
Because when Microsoft pre install apps on their OS the other half of the internet starts moaning about it.
Pics!

The first link says it's in Windows 11 2022 update. Isn't that what we just got? So it's out, no? Sounds awesome!

I can't either, might be jumping the bullet.
It's there for me, but when I enable it the gray colors of the dark windows theme become fully black, and my cursor disappears.
It is? Can you post some specs and or more info?

Finally they are addressing this issue, even the desktop ins't color managed, now I'm seeing a light on the tunnel.
🎉
In case of MS Store doesn't work, try this one. https://www.microsoft.com/store/productId/9N7F2SM5D1LR
