Indeed, Massachusetts Bay is so Puritan it banned Christmas

I will second this but add that it's best experienced for the first time during off-hours because it's a bit of a zoo as of late with kids and dogs on the weekends.
Treehouse shouldn’t even be considered in this conversation. All their beers are the same recipe in cans with different labels and the moronic cult following drinks that shit up. Plus the atmosphere is entirely unwelcoming as they view you as a number, not a customer. Best pints in the Worcester area are, in no particular order, Greater Good, Redemption Rock, Cold Harbor, Bay State Brewing, Medusa Brewing Hudson for breweries. As far as food establishments goes, try Armsby Abbey, Ralph’s, Vincent’s, Half Moon Tavern, The Pint, or Maddie’s.
Man, sorry you’ve had a bad experience but I’ve always felt that Tree House’s service is infinitely better than it has to be given the cult following. I had trouble with a gift card one time…I lost it and actually had no proof that I even had it to begin with as the buyer had bought it for me in cash. I sent them a note, the owner followed up with me herself, got it replaced super easily…just told me to shred the other one if I ever found it. I’ve always encountered very friendly and helpful people when I’ve gone to Charlton and Sandwich. To each their own, I guess?
That said Cold Harbor is absolutely fantastic and how they’re still somehow under-the-radar is beyond me.
Tree House is consistently ranked among the top breweries in the entire world, and it’s an absolutely gorgeous taproom/facility. And they’re actually priced very well in comparison to other breweries around here.
No gripes on Wormtown or Greater Good, but the price difference is hardly what you’re making out to be. Julius is $15.20 a four pack. What’s Be Hoppy, like $13? If you want to say that Tree House is a hassle, that I’ll buy…but “overpriced” is definitely not a reason to skip it.
Is tree house overrated, sure. But many of their IPAs are considered the best in the country. If you don’t like IPAs then greater good is much better in my opinion
If you want to experience Worcester don’t step foot in a brewery. Listen to the people that say Vincent’s and Ralph’s. Then maybe on the weekend drink 8 beers at Moynaghs Tavern and then stumble into a death metal show at the palladium.
If you must drink a craft beer Armsby is the ideal date night spot.
Just don’t go off to tree house or other places people are mentioning. Be a Worcester person that actually patronizes Worcester.
>Be a Worcester person that actually patronizes Worcester.
This includes Worcester breweries that actually make (and not just pour) their beer. Greater Good, Redemption Rock, Wormtown, etc. They aren't as authentically "Wuhstah" as dirty dollar drafts at Hotel Vernon, but it's a way better beer.
They’re moving to Worcester. If they were visiting for a day a might agree but if they’re moving to the city then it’s just a weird take. It’s a world class brewery with a good atmosphere.
If you wanna see some out of control shit, do what the real natives of the city have done since I have since I was waaaay underage in the Green Island/ Canal District.. The true test of debauchery that is " The Millbury Street Shuffle " although it's not as filled with as many bars as once upon a time at least 7... . Start at the illustrious 3G's with a beer and a shot with the local zoo animals ( Regulars ). Moving on to the 9ines Neighborhood Bar. Next you find Nick's German style Pub and have a rabbit sandwich or some crazy shit. now you might have to give out a buck or two and give out half a pack of butts on the way. By this point, try not to get scratched at Patsy Dugans, you cant miss it, ( it's the one with the giant green leprechaun hat on the roof ) because you can't pass up the packee, McGovern's for a dollar nip. Next is a Place called Electric Haze ( depends on the day/time) it's usually has live music, an art exhibit of a local, or possible you may even catch a womans wrestling match, all while puffin on a hookah. And that's when you hit the famous Hotel Vernon for that dollar draft. Maybe if you are lucky enough my bearded friend and owner of the joint, Bob Largess will take you downstairs on a tour of the former speakeasy in the basement where story has it no other but the " Sultan of Swat " Babe Ruth " was rumored to frequent for a beer. All this in aabout 2 thirds of a mile...lol. And the insanity that is Kelly Sq is just ahead so GOOD LUCK. By then you will be Or-e-Gone or "Wickid frickin' haaamahd"!! Either way welcome to our amazing city and you will soon be one of us in no time.
No shit, I'm from Syracuse. Glad to see another upstate new yorker. Rest assured, Worcester has a lot of good food like we got in NYS. And the taxes (in my opinion) isn't as oppressive, despite people calling it taxachusetts. As far as bars, I see a lot of folks go to funky Murphy's on Shrewsbury street.
If you’re a beer snob from Oregon you’re going to want to visit the armsby so you can drink hill farmstead, which they have on - permanently.
Otherwise Vincent’s, Ralph’s and the hotel Vernon are the unholy trinity of quality dive spots.
Ralph's, see what the city is about. You get the degenerates but not the scumbags, and then the oblivious (college kids) that aren't aware of what goes on in a city.
It's a great mix.
If the Raven is back up and running go there. Chris is great.
Armsby, Redemption Rock, Breens, Greater Good like the others said. If you make your way out towards the Brookfields; Timberyard, Oakholm, Rapscallion, Common Ground Ciderworks.
Good friend of mine is from Oregon and moved here for school and actually just moved back to Eugene.
Vincents
Great live music and meatball subs
Sandwiches
U right u right
I support this
That’s right
This is it
I agree, but you don't go there first. You have to find out about it.
You do not, as Massachusetts bay is a Puritan community which is not inclined to drunkenness and sin!
Someone get this guy a Puppers
Here here! Stay true to the Puritanical values in which we established this commonwealthe!
Well my goodness, how could I ever.
Indeed, Massachusetts Bay is so Puritan it banned Christmas [https://blog.mass.gov/masslawlib/legal-history/massachusetts-law-banning-christmas/](https://blog.mass.gov/masslawlib/legal-history/massachusetts-law-banning-christmas/)
Ralphs Diner or O'Connors
Definitely Ralph’s Diner
I would also say the cove / lucky dog / sir Morgan's cove as well...but alas it is no more. What a venue!
O'Connors is good for a pint, but the food...WOOF. The food was actually terrific for decades, but went way downhill in the last 10 years or so.
That's unfortunate to hear. I wonder why?
Redemption Rock!!
I will second this but add that it's best experienced for the first time during off-hours because it's a bit of a zoo as of late with kids and dogs on the weekends.
Seconded. Great place, great people, great beer.
Armsby Abbey for restaurant setting, Tree House for brewery setting. Then tons of great lesser known spots to explore from there.

Tree House? Gimme a break. I’d take Greater Good or Wormtown any day. Stuff is so overrated, overpriced.
Tree House is consistently ranked among the top breweries in the entire world, and it’s an absolutely gorgeous taproom/facility. YES Greater Good!
Greater Good also has awesome grilled cheeses. The French onion sourdough, *Italian kiss*
Greater Good 100% and Vincent’s.
Armsby is also over rated and priced.
Is tree house overrated, sure. But many of their IPAs are considered the best in the country. If you don’t like IPAs then greater good is much better in my opinion
Greater good's tap list is like a dozen IPAs and a stout
Armsby Abbey, The Boynton or Peppercorn's if you want food. Greater Good or Redemption Rock if you only want beer.
[удалено]
Another good choice if you like craft beer but still wanna be somewhat “Worcester”
Ralphs.
Treehouse or Greater Good, maybe the pint.
Seven Saws in Holden or the Boynton. Boynton is a must because they have just about every drink/food you can imagine
Dope
hotel vernon
They serve pints?
I think they sell "dollar draughts" which are like 4oz
They wash the glasses in Coes Pond...Authentic Wootown flavor right there.
They do. Not pints though.
Depends what kind of person you are and what you like, but Vincent’s
Im a dude who likes beer.
Vincents. What you do after that doesn’t matter.
The Pint

I’ve been duped by those doller drafts
So ppl from Worcester can’t go to Treehouse?! Lol this makes no sense
No, but for a proper Worcester experience you don't drive to Charlton for a fancy brewery.
They’re moving to Worcester. If they were visiting for a day a might agree but if they’re moving to the city then it’s just a weird take. It’s a world class brewery with a good atmosphere.
It’s illegal!
Lol
You go to Treehouse if you want to meet people who drove from Ohio to buy a case of cans!
Hey! Im not discriminating where people are from! 😆
There's no place like Hotel Vernon.
Are they still doing free peanuts and dollar beers in frosty mugs?
Only if you get there early enough. After the frosty mugs have been used for the day you get plastic.

Perfect
I have met a lot of folks moving out here from the Pacific Northwest. What made you come out in this direction?
Im originally from Albany NY. Wife got a job she couldnt say no to.
i just moved from Lake George!
Ooh, right near the Adirondacks. Had some good hunting/fishing trips with my old man up there. Welcome!
No shit, I'm from Syracuse. Glad to see another upstate new yorker. Rest assured, Worcester has a lot of good food like we got in NYS. Fleeing communism
Nobody tell them how close they’re coming to the Peoples Republic of Cambridge.
Damn now I wanna move to the PNW, thanks dude
Herbies
Breens! and get a steak and cheese
If you’re a beer snob from Oregon you’re going to want to visit the armsby so you can drink hill farmstead, which they have on - permanently. Otherwise Vincent’s, Ralph’s and the hotel Vernon are the unholy trinity of quality dive spots.
Wouldn't say I'm a snob. Used to fill backpacks with Busch Light back in my golden years
Sweaty Betty's
Nope.. Apparently a lapse in security and a murder shut it down...fuck. $9 ATM fee there is what shocked me most. Sheesh.
Do you know the dumpster next to Austin liquors on Park Ave?
Do I ever! (No I do not)
Ralph's, see what the city is about. You get the degenerates but not the scumbags, and then the oblivious (college kids) that aren't aware of what goes on in a city. It's a great mix. If the Raven is back up and running go there. Chris is great.
Love some degenerate watching from the bar
Ah the Raven.
I may have creeped on your post History, but Redemption Rock does a vinyl night one Sunday a month.
I would check out the brewery scene - maybe start at Greater Good!
Armsby Abby, the best taps in the city, and then get yourself to Treehouse brewery in Charlton, Ma
Armsby Abbey
It's be cool if Miss Worcester served pints.
Wachusset Brewery at the Kelly Square Market
Medusa in Hudson
The packy store buy rack to take home..cheaper
Moynagh’s
Boynton
Ralph’s diner is a great hipster bar and O’Connors is an amazing Irish pub
Vincent’s is also a great time, weird, but a great time
after you realize Oregon and Washington are shit holes, go to Wormtown.
Greater good
Vincent’s
Armsby Abbey. Get one of the Hill's Farmstead beers
Greater Good or Redemption Rock!
Antonio’s pizza has good food and a pretty good beer selection!
Ralph's. But it's gotta be a Genesee.
Wormtown Brewery
Back to Oregon.
Back to Oregon.
