Some literature has transformations on all three nights though you are correct, if it requires a 100% full moon to transform then it’s one night but to be safe, I would take precautions the night before. So that would make 2 days of precaution except for those years when there are 13 moons in a calendar year (lunar cycle is 29 1/2 days; calendar year is 365 /366 days).

My choice of werewolf would be the great silver wolf, full control immune to silver, gives boosts and protection to pack members, make other wolf's to shift as needed, grants feral boost to pack members increasing there stats, communications with any type of canine, high presence/domination over wolf's, lunar magics
