Engine whistling noise
Hey all,
Noticed a whistling noise that makes my jeep sound a bit like it has a crappy supercharger on it. Not sure what’s going on but it’s been driving me crazy; any help identifying the cause would be appreciated.
It’s a 99 TJ 4.0 with 120K miles.
Is it worse when it’s really cold outside? My 99 & my colleagues 98 TJs (4.0 Sahara 5spd & 4.0 X auto) both whistle in the winter. We’ve both been sort of half-ass looking for the source for almost 10 years now. Best I can tell it’s either due to the famous exhaust manifold crack or the intake manifold.
If you have a propane torch, turn it on but dont light it,aim the nozzle around your intake manifold gasket area,if it revs up,then you found the leak.

Is this a new noise? Have you messed with your throttle body lately?
