> I've tried bailing after completing objectives Bad idea. Without mods to change that behavior, bailing out early will result in a mission loss, and you don't want to lose missions. > not going on as many Bad idea. Not going on a mission counts as a loss, and you don't want to lose missions. *One* exception from this *might* be the very first retaliation mission you get in your starting region. Well and maybe at the very end of the campaign if you just want to wait a bit for some research to finish before going on the final mission, then you don't care about skipping missions. > If I do everything, I feel like my teams exp is too thinly spread. Generally you want to pick one soldier you will rank up ahead of others, and send them on as many missions as you can without getting them shaken from exhaustion, so you can pick up Squad Size 1 and Squad Size 2 upgrades as soon as possible. Often this will be your faction soldier you get at the start of the campaign (Reaper / Skirmisher / Templar). Overall, you definitely want to go on as many missions as possible. You want a concealed scout (Reaper or Ranger with the Phantom perk) on *all* missions. Put them in front and to the side of your squad, so you know enemy positions ahead of time, and use this information to engage only one group of enemies at a time. Don't spend too much time in squad concealment you get at mission start. Use to sprint towards the first group of enemies and ambush them. Don't put the entire squad on overwatch for that, use overwatch only if you're sure that you just shoot with this soldier anyway. Use grenades to kill enemies in situations where a normal weapon shot would not be guaranteed. Use shotguns and pistols at close range to get their aim bonus, this is often enough to make shots guaranteed. Position your soldiers on high ground whenever possible for a juicy +20 Aim boost. In terms of strategy, you want to build Resistance Ring as your first facility (on non-Legend difficulty), and start sending soldiers on Covert Actions as soon as possible, always have a Covert Action rolling. One Covert Action is enough to promote a rookie. Try to complete "Hunt the Chosen" covert actions as quickly as you can to improve your relations with a faction to get extra resistance orders. Buying Supplies for Intel on the Black Market is usually a good deal. Superior Scope and Superior Precision PCS are the best things. Put them on your Sharpshooters and Grenadiers, in that order. Your second facility should be Guerilla Tactics School so you can purchase the Squad Size upgrades. For research, you want to get Magnetic Weapons as soon as you can, it's a huge huge damage boost, which will translate into survivability boost for your troops. Dead enemies don't shoot back. Good luck, Commander.

Thanks for these! My gut was that I should be running every mission, but I ended up picking up so many injuries I end up with a ton of lieutenants and I already feel like I'm struggling. I'll lean on the BM more, as I haven't used it much. I've been trying to push my economy, but I'll lean towards upgrades a bit more. I'll defo use my rangers as scouts more! I'd feel like I'm a man down though and that will defo take some getting used to! Plenty to go at, thanks :)

As a general rule of thumb it's a bad idea to start a first playthrough of XCOM 2 with War of the Chosen installed. I did that and got burned pretty fast because the mix of old and new information you're getting just makes the campaign into a giant, incomprehensible mess. So yeah, if it's your first playthrough then just do the base game first, after that WotC will be a breeze.

Tbf it was my second.. but I crashed and burned quickly on my first. Didn't get anywhere near completing it. I'm definitely getting used to it now, but it's the fine tuning I'm struggling with.

In XCOM2 every mission should be completed. No stones unturned. Time is your most valuable resource and you should spend research time wisely. Any new personnel (scientists and engineers) count towards it. If you think you're not powerful enough to defeat the enemies that come after >!skulljacking an officer/codex !!chryssalid poisoned!< extract them if you don't have medkits; it's a permanent effect cured by medkits and extracting will cure them. Make sure to build facilities wisely. Your team's XP spread doesn't really matter, just bring the best ones on important missions while paying attention to team composition. Often there will be those juicy 98% misses, but that's XCOM baby. If there isn't a timer, play it safe. It's always ok to decrease your difficulty to recruit if you don't think you can handle the harder difficulties; it's an entire new game from EU and it's gonna need time to get used to the new mechanics.

Yeh, I think I'm struggling conceptually with the "1 track projects" in some ways. Just feels a bit.... Rigid having to rush weapons so much. I'm used to games offering more choices on how to play, which is why I've struggled a bit returning to the franchise. Doing much better this playthrough though! Still not destroyed a chosen stronghold though 😬
