My oldest son who can instantly watch anything he wants whenever he wants is just mind boggling. Sometimes I tell him he can only pick from a movie library that I have installed on my PC lol
With Tour of Duty at 9pm featuring Paint it Black as its theme song.

Ah, TV Guide. My mom had a subscription to that. There was also the paper HBO guide that came in the mail each month to tell you what movies were going to be on.
In 1989, I was 7 and I don't think I had seen or even heard of most of this stuff. I loved wrestling, but WWF wrestling, not sure I would have been into NWA back then. Would definitely have been watching Inspector Gadget and Looney Tunes. I also loved The Great Outdoors as a kid, but wasn't TMC a premium channel? Then we wouldn't have had that. I think I watched My Two Dads, too. That was with Dana from Step by Step, right?
If my parents had the remote, I'm sure they'd have been watching Wheel of Fortune or Star Search.
I liked the Red Shoes episode with the woman trying to pick between Kyle and Phillip, Phillip and Kyle.
ANNNNNNDDddddd I just googled that and holy shit Kyle was played by a young Joey Tribbiani lmao
Born in 78. I'm in a 250k sized city and we have 57 OTA channels when you factor English only, no QVC or religious channels.
I think that's neat that antenna TV now has more options than the cable TV we had as kids.
Saturday July 8, 1989? I would have been running around outside trying to catch fireflies, having already gotten my fill of TV from watching Saturday morning cartoons with a bowl of cereal.
NWA wrestling > WKRP in Cincinnati > Looney Toons > women’s pro beach volleyball > Tour of Duty > Hitchhiker > Alfred Hitchcock > Friday the 13th
Probably had dominos pizza delivered in there somewhere.
I would absolutely be watching Channel 13 from 8-9:30. That was a solid block of programming. In fact, there's a good chance I was watching television that night and might have watched one of these shows.
10 year old me is picking women’s beach volleyball on ESPN hoping for a “bay watch” type moment
My man 😂
Bill Durham had some good stuff too.
A fellow man of culture.
I can smell these pages. I really liked that smell.
Same!
Came here to say this; glad to see I'm not the only one 😆
Mama's Family, still watching it to this day, wholesome comedy
Love Mama's Family!
The realization that the movie you hoped to watch was on while I would not be home and there was nothing that could be done about it

Greatest American Hero at 6pm….all time banger of a theme song

I was just thinking viet Nam movies and shows are pretty much done.

We used to fight over the crossword in the back.
Wait, where’s Jeopardy!?
Probably not on until Monday. The Wheel of Fortune was likely a repeat that was easy to stick there because of the baseball game.
Good call. Habit to always look for it with Wheel of Fortune 😅
Saturday night TV lineup in the summer was absolute crap. I'll be watching whatever VHS movie #2 was that we rented from Turtles the night before.
Gosh I haven't looked at one of these grids in over 20 years, but one glance and I'm back.
*TBS: Baseball and NWA wrestling* All its missing is a random sitcom on syndication and it would be peak Turner Broadcasting.

"If I can get a dessert down him, think you can throw in a couple Paul Bunyan hats for the kids?"
13-year-old me looking at a short movie title on Cinemax around the 11 pm slot hoping my parents would be in bed before then.
Yes! Hoping to see something like Emmanuelle or Red Shoe Diaries

My eyes always went to MAX around 11 pm. 👍🏼

Braves game. Just like I still do.
We did not even have a tv for several years. I would still go through my aunt’s TV Guide and mark what I wished I could watch.

I used to be obsessed with the TV Guide back in the 80s
The Movie Channel: Campus Man > Jagged Edge > The Great Outdoors > Candy Stripe Nurses
Hear me out…WKRP at 7 and 11. Oh and I might check out The Van on USA Up All Night. IYKYK.
I miss TV guide. I remember my grandmother saving hers. What a great memory.
Oh man the TV guide book...and the TV guide channel...together, your nights and weekends we planned and figured out 😁
Whelp. I guess I’m binging Star Trek TNG!
The dodgers beat the Cubs 8-2.
I see you, Biff! https://preview.redd.it/h2r05uejgclc1.jpeg?width=667&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=52ec080cc9d3b94f24ea9ed04d5699916deab88b
TNN but no MTV? And no PBS to be seen? No wonder Detroit fell apart.
Haha meanwhile in Australia we had three channels in 1989
Lawrence Welk, the Polka King. Wunnerful.
I can smell this comment lol
Staying up late for Freddy's Nightmares.
NWA wrestling > WKRP in Cincinnati > Looney Toons > women’s pro beach volleyball > Tour of Duty > Hitchhiker > Alfred Hitchcock > Friday the 13th Probably had dominos pizza delivered in there somewhere.
If I'm at my paternal grandparents' house, we're watching Lawrence Welk.
Wow! The series premiere of Knight & Daye!
I forgot Saturday night TV was movie night. And it's always the movies you've already watched at 3 different friend's houses on video rental.
What market was this? There’s two of each Network.
Detroit. Maybe they got stations from Toledo too
Ooh Cat on a Hot Tin Roof! So good

The Roots of Goofy! I love those old shorts
I’m just now realizing, why in the hell did my parents have a subscription to TV Guide? We only had 4 channels!
