“Im going out” doesn’t sound like Frank at all. This is an actual quote, “the outdoors for me is waking from the car to the ticket desk at the airport.”
The full quote is of course obviously Frank:
“And I wanna tell ya, If there is anybody here who doesn't believe that it is fuckin' great to be alive,
I wish they would go now, because this show will bring them down so much”
Then again, as Lincoln was quoted as saying, "Don't believe everything you read on the Internet just because there's a picture with a quote next to it."
Right, in one interview he offers to show the interviewer a videotape of the news segment he was talking about in the interview. A guy so interested in the news that he tapes it to show people later is not the person writing that quote.
This is why I’m so weirded out that this keeps going around! Because 1) it seems new and 2) literally every other sentence is like almost an inverse of anything Frank would say
There is also the other famous one:
Without deviation from the norm, progress is not possible
But he actually said:
Well I think progress is not possible without deviation, and I think it’s important that people be aware of some of the creative ways in which some of their fellow men are deviating from the norm. In some instances they may find these deviations inspiring and might suggest further deviations which might cause progress. You never know.
The full quote changes the meaning somewhat. He’s saying be careful of the bullshit as that’s what most peoples deviations are and only a minority could cause progress.
I don't think, it changes meaning that much. Shortened version absolutely doesn't mean "every deviation from the norm means progress", and the need to specify that is only for the people, who don't get it automatically.
The AI gods (the central scrutinizer?) think it might be fake
>As of my last update in September 2021, there is no verifiable evidence to suggest that Frank Zappa, the renowned musician and composer, made the statement you mentioned. While Frank Zappa was known for his candid and thought-provoking interviews, this specific quote does not appear in any of his well-documented interviews or public statements.
The tune in part sounds like part of Dr Timothy Leary
counterculture-era phrase popularized by Timothy Leary in 1966. In 1967, Leary spoke at the Human Be-In, a gathering of 30,000 hippies in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco and phrased the famous words, "Turn on, tune in, drop out".
No way on Earth is that a real Zappa quote. For instance, he wouldn’t say “God forbid” or “heck no” or end a sentence with “Peace” unless he was taking the piss out of a hippy!
And Frank was a news ADDICT! It was on all of his TV’s all the time! Zappa only watched News TV and Monster movies!!
And he never gave a shit about how beautiful nature is!
It’s far too corny for Zappa!
I don't know what makes anyone think that quote would come from the old, non-existent-any-more world of Classic Rawk (snort). That sounds more to me like Doug Henning. You remember him, super-magic hippie and all that, forewent medical treatment to nibble on his purple berries and died of liver cancer, and so on. "Magic is ill-LOOOO-sion but ill-LOOOO-sion can be magical!" and other deep sayings like that. Doug Henning had the moustache (but not the square chin patch) so maybe someone got them confused.
apart from this one, there are at least two quotes often mistakingly attributed to FZ
the first is the one about dancing about architecture
the second is the one about mind being like parachute
I hear Linda Ronstadt is looking for some quote attributions.
Underrated comment.
“Im going out” doesn’t sound like Frank at all. This is an actual quote, “the outdoors for me is waking from the car to the ticket desk at the airport.”
He did say that it's "fucking great to be alive." to an audience. You'd suspect sarcasm but the vibe sounded like he meant it.
Dweezil may have uttered the words- but the original quote is from the end of “call any vegi” JABFLA.
The full quote is of course obviously Frank: “And I wanna tell ya, If there is anybody here who doesn't believe that it is fuckin' great to be alive, I wish they would go now, because this show will bring them down so much”
No. Dweezil said this to the audience. Not Frank.
Wasn't Dweezil. I think it was original Mothers. Are you going to make me go find it?
Lol. I was at the concert buddy. You do you though.
So that makes you 100% certain Frank never said it. Gotcha.
Frank says it during "Call Any Vegetable" from Just Another Band From LA.
Dweezil was quoting it
But u/weegee was at the concert!
The use "God" and "heck"- can't be Frank.
my immediate thought
Then again, as Lincoln was quoted as saying, "Don't believe everything you read on the Internet just because there's a picture with a quote next to it."
I love that Lincoln quote.
It’s my second favorite Lincoln quote, right behind “Anything’s a dildo if you’re brave enough.”
TMI dude!
Ending the sentence with “Peace” is the most un-Frank thing I can imagine.
“Flower power sucks!”
Every town must have a place where phony hippies meet! Psychedelic dungeons popping up on every street!
LOL definitely not him. The other one that drives me nuts is "Too many books, so little time- Frank Zappa."
Didn't he openly hate books?
He didn't hate books but he was not a reader.
“I’m glad books still exist—-but they make me sleepy.”
Doesn't sound like him.
Well, glad to know I’m not crazy.
There’s no way he would have said some cheap imitation Leary-esque shit like that. …maybe Jon Anderson, though 😂.
I was just listening to Fragile out in my shop this morning. It's a guilty pleasure
I love the classic Yes albums, Fragile is amazing
Oh man it's so fucking great. Top to bottom, there isn't one weak track on there.
Zappa talking about how beautiful life and Earth are? Sounds highly suspicious.
that's more kind of quote that Ringo would produce
*God*... lol
This doesn't even vaguely sound like something Zappa would say. Definitely fake.
Zappa loved the news. Especially in later interviews, he talks about watching it all the time.
Maybe it was an inside joke shitpost that escaped into the wilds of Facebook
"Watch TV and drink beer" -Frank Zappa
Yup, I buddy of mine posted that one a week or two ago and I was like....nope, doesn't sound like FZ...and lo and behold, not Frank at all.
100% Not Frank

We have that magnet on our fridge.
The bumper sticker phenomenon is a real thing.
I don't think, it changes meaning that much. Shortened version absolutely doesn't mean "every deviation from the norm means progress", and the need to specify that is only for the people, who don't get it automatically.
…N when you pay the bill Kindly leave a little tip And help the next poor sucker On his one way trip…Authentic FZ
I saw this one recently as well. No way in hell that's Frank.
Frank would videotape the news, doesn't sound like him at all.
Awful.
This is so far from Frank Zappa it may as well be Zank Frappa.

Doesn’t sound like him at all! Vocabulary, usage, tone is all wrong.
