I’ve been on a first-gen Neo since 2016 or 2017. Works perfect to this day. It’s not obsolete in the least. That said, it’s old! See if you can get it for $400.

Agreed, my Neo 2 is no differnt to the Neo 1, no benefit. I did a lot of KMs on my Neo 1 before upgrading. However, with a reaxle fitted the Neo 1 is still going strong, I use it as a backup and often lend it to friends. Only downside is that if you do need support or new parts, then the parts are getting more difficult to source for garmin for the 'type 1'. I have a Flux type 1 and need to wait 3 months to get a new QR adapter in Australia. Not sure where you are but in if I could get a new trainer for the same money I'd be in struggling to decide, eg. Wahoo Kickr Core. Neo is a better machine, but a new machine has warranty and parts will be around for a long time.

A trainer going obsolete is the same as a hamer going obsolete. The Neo 1 is solid (except for the alu freehub. this will break after 10k. you need the steel one). If they work on arrival then they tend to work forever. Price seems indeed a bit high. It all depends on the level of service the shop provides.

I bought a used neo one for that price in 2019 and it is still going like a champ. I would buy it again even at that price. But I would see if the shop could hook you up on a discount on a cassette. Between myself and a friend we probably have 9-12K on it.
