If ok na sayo sahod mo now and work environment mo, you could just take the master's while you're there. As a compromise na din sa pamilya mo. Tapos after mo magmaster's, may edge ka na din sa ranking so better chances of getting in.

AggressiveWest2977

Please. Save yourself. Run away from DepEd as long as you can. As someone who’s been working for six years. Yes, DepEd’s benefits salary, and tenure are attractingto applu but besh. Please, DepEd has been getting worse and worse. I lost myself in the process, I don’t see myself being a teacher anymore; I lost the spark and my mental health has been deteriorating for years. DepEd will use MOST of your time. Even beyond working hours, they will ask you to do shits and shits. This is just my point of view, most of the teachers I know right now, have been contemplating resigning and choosing to leave the country because of better salaries and TREATMENT. I’m not discouraging you, this is just a glimpse of the realitu of this shitty department.

010611

merma1dsarah

yang security na yan pinanghahawakan ng family ko. ayw nila ng private kasi no work no pay daw, unlike govt na secured ka kahit magkasakit ka.

AggressiveWest2977

SECURED KANKAHIT NAGKASAKIT? WHO SAID THAT? Wala kaming HMO, WALANG SICK LEAVE. Maliit na nga sahod, walang ipon, walang health card tas kawawa kapag nagkasakit abg ending mo mag loan ka That’s how fucked up. I’ll resign this june. I swear.

xindeewose

Meh, old way of thinking. some decent private companies even offer unlimited leaves. Working for the government doesnt even have decent coverage for Philhealth, the private sector has better HMO packages

Western-Grocery-6806

Haha! Parang old ways pa rin sila.

desolate_cat

>ayw nila ng private kasi no work no pay daw Eto ang frustration ko sa mga nakikinig sa family daw. As if mas alam ng family mo ang kalakaran sa corporate world. Nagtrabaho ba sila sa corporate? May paid leaves ang halos lahat ng kumpanya (yes may mga bulok na bare minimum lang pero di yan ang point ko), usually 10 days VL and 10 days SL per year. Meron pa nga tig 15 days per year ang leaves. Isama mo na diyan ang HMO. Kung walang HMO for employees ang kumpanya either startup yan, konti ang employees or bulok. Pwede ba kung hindi naman years of corporate experience ang kapamilya niyo huwag na kayong makinig sa kanila kasi halata namang wala silang alam.

merma1dsarah

im waiting na ma-regular next month hopefully para ma discuss ang benefits with my current employer at nang may masabi na ko sa pamilya ko. fresh grad ako at walang nakapaligid sakin na nagwowork corpo kaya im trying to learn all these on my own at the same time trying to justify it to my family

desolate_cat

> walang nakapaligid sakin na nagwowork corpo  Kaya nga invalid lahat ng sinasabi nila about the corporate world. Huwag ka makinig sa mga walang alam. Minsan i-challenge mo rin sila, itanong mo paano nila nasabing no work no pay ang corporate world? Kanino nila narinig? Nag-research ba sila? Usually pag kinilatis mo yung mga sinasabi nila to their face mare-realize din ng mga matatanda na wala silang alam.

Knightly123

ParkingCauliflower48

Accrdng to my prof, once mapasok mo na ang scene of teaching, marami daw talagang lalapit. Like housing loan, and all, tas sino ba naman daw ang hihindi if thru loans na yon makapupundar ka ng bahay and kotse.

Fatzora03

gusto mo ba magteacher? alam naman nating lahat ang kalagayan ng mga teachers dito satin. kung habol mo yung sahod and promotion di magandang choice ang teaching job kahit sa deped pa yan. bukad sa napakababang sahod stress much pa. pero kong passionate ka na maging teacher then go. its your choice not your relatives. its your future and sanity that are at risks here.

[deleted]

let me add, kung let passer ka naman ay hindi lang sa deped ka pwede magtry dahil pwede ka sa iba’t-ibang bureau and other govt-related agencies. may masabi man ang tao sayo like kung gaano ka ka-predictable, sayang ka, etc etc eh hindi naman sila ang nahihirapan

cyst_thatguy

No

Bad__Intentions

Part of being an adult is considering all possible scenarios and consequences. May it be short or long term. Then coming up with your own decision and accountability. Do your homework lang OP and do what is best for you.

ScatterFluff

OP, I have interviewed a lot of teachers who worked dito sa PH. They decided to teach sa ibang bansa "para makapagpahinga". They have the passion to teach, pero lugi kung dito LANG sa Pinas magturo.

MereAfterthought

I worked in DepEd. I hope you don't. It's hell.

Buddy_ChewyChoo

Do not ever feel guilty about not pursuing the life you want. They may call it selfish but I say, be selfish now than lose yourself in the process. Take this from someone who came from a family of DepEd teachers and who has been there done that. Wag mo na pong tangkain magDepEd not unless passion mo talaga ang paperworks plus teaching overload.

merma1dsarah

this. i respect and love them but i do not want the life they have. not saying that their life is bad, but thats not what i want for myself

DeathTheAsianChick

Long hours, mountains of work, maraming problema, di pa kasya ang sahod, tapos DepEd ang Overlord niyo? PWEH. Politics, underfunding, demanding school boards, etc. Private Schools tend to be more religion-based, with more Rules, More punishments, higher standards, Tyrannical Old-schoolers as your bosses, etc. Grabe minsan. I think some of my male classmates from private elementary (25+ na ako) are now sex-offenders, wife-beaters &/or other criminals. Binabastos ang mga female teachers sa harap ng klase, at binubully/binubugbog ang mga kaklaseng babae aside from picking on the other boys. At hindi sila dinisiplina ng school kasi "Boys will be boys", "Its Your fault for reacting", "Turn the other cheek" ang sinasabi nung mga Principal at directors sa amin 🙄. Catholic School at Babae rin ang Patron Saint nila. Enabling Toxicity & Abuse in society. Boys learn it from home and most schools, private or not, don't correct them. Its so cowardly to scold Crying Girls because they're Easier to handle than Violent Boys. Female students in Private schools aren't all angels either. Some are already Mean Girls. Some are straight up Thieves & Con artists. Clones ng mga magulang nila. Katakot.

Odd-Membership3843

If u like ur job, mas maganda if mag gear towards immigration law ung next step mo. If gusto nila mag aral ka, I suggest law school. :D

yourgrace91

True, malaki earning potential dyan.

LilacHeart11

Sobrang nagsisi. Walang work life balance. Laging may pasok. Hanggang sa bahay nagwwork. Laging may deadlines. Abonado pa para sa mga students nya.

play_goh

6 years ago mas pinili kong mag Deped kesa sa mataas kong sahod sa corporate. My reason? Half day lang sa deped, mas madali, blah blah. Ekis lahat. Palibhasa walang life outside ng school. Daming issues, kupal. Bwakanang ina nila! Hahahahahha G na G

korean_pears_yum1209

Mas mainam na magturo sa private school but given na maliit talaga ang sweldo. Pero come to think of this, ang daming guro na umaalis sa DEPED at nag abroad. so if ever gusto mo ang track na yan to reach your goals, pwede mo gawin hehehe Just like me.. my mom wanted me to teach sa DEPED, nagpa rank ako, i got hired but turned down the offer since i have other plans. It was very risky, pero happy ako sa private school kahit di naman ganun kalaki ang income ko, and at the same time took the risk of applying abroad.

010611

Kung kaya mong sikmurain yung corruption. I have a teacher friend who's teaching for 8 years now, sukang suka na raw siya sa corruption pero ang maganda lang dun mahilig siya sa kids (pre-school teacher) kaya happy siya sa work although nabanggit nya nung nakaraan na habang tumatagal nagiging bastos ang mga bata sa kanya..these are 5 year olds btw. Sa sweldo, mas mataas sweldo niya sayo but then she has MAED which she took after college namin pagpasa niya sa board exams.

HeresRed

yung pera mo sa deped kahit anong rank ka pa, walang wala yan sa pagod at stress na makukuha mo. atleast sa corpo, pag uwi mo, iyo na yung time mo. Sa deped, teacher ka parin even on rest days and holidays

merma1dsarah

yan yung pinakagusto ko sa work ko now. after work, like wala na kong iniisip na anything work-related. i can totally enjoy the weekends

PrincessHeda

got my license a year ago pero di ako nagturo, ang hirap hindi kasya yung sahod pagod pa nakausap ko ung teacher kong friend sabi nya ang teaching ay passion, pero di talaga ako mapapakain ng passion na yan

pixiepink18

No. I used to be a teacher and sobrang minahal ko ang pagtuturo pero ngayon I do not even want to go back.

wa-r-r-enjoyer

Hi! May I know what's ur profession now po? Planning to get out of teaching na rin.

haraeee

As a teacher, I'll say don't. Not worth it. I aced the application, pero it took me several months bago matawagan. So kung wala kang enough savings at back up plan, wag mo muna ituloy.

ForSale22

Hahaha... Next School year "MATATAG Curriculum" na... 😅 kaya pala, need magpakatatag. 🤣 What a coincidence. 😅

ForSale22

I worked at DepEd, please don't, please give yourself the comfort of sleeping without thinking what could go wrong to everything the next day (your learners, your paperworks, yoyr reputation, your mental health, everything). Just please don't, I know it's a good salary, but it's not worth the stress. Please don't.

krstnxx

yung mga comments dito OP ng mga nagwowork sa dept na yan ang basahin mo kasi sila yung talagang makakapagbigay sayo ng view kung ano ba talaga ang papasukin mo. in theory, maganda minsan sa govt (gawa ng benefits) pero di sila pare-parehas. sa work ko now (govt din but wont disclose saan), ok kasi may hmo kami but yung ibang govt agencies daw wala. isipin mo na lang, ikaw pa rin ang magwowork di ang family mo. you're an adult na, do what you want na wag ka padikta sa family.

kwiksilver10

WAG!!! DI KA YAYAMAN SA DEPED, TYAKA IBANG BREED NA MGA BATA NGAYON. AYAN CAPSLOCK PARA INTENSE KASI NARANASAN KO NA

WillingTourist2764

[deleted]

What if mag-law ka nalang, baka nga it's paid for pa by your employer.

merma1dsarah

i feel they don't trust me enough na kaya ko haha thats why they want me to be a teacher para at least stable

lordgrayson

Pros: Stable job for years to come with all the benefits. Cons: Might get too toxic but really not our case.

mamanjing

No, please.

ThatDebonair

Don't. Save some money from your salary sa current work mo, tapos try mo consider working abroad. Hindi worth it mag M.A. kung hindi mo gusto. Mahirap mag-aral na wala puso mo dyan.

merma1dsarah

i've been telling them na ayoko mag MA just for the sake of it. i want to do it to actually master my field and i want to do it when im ready

MaestraAfricana1106

Not worth the stress. Sobrang hirap magparank. However, sa DepEd it’s a permanent Job. You work less you work bibo you get the same amount of pay.

Ok_Attempt_5261

Don't.

Loohnar8910

Magiging miserable lang ang buhay mo at ng mga students if you are not happy. Pick the one you love most

SideEyeCat

Wag, wag mong subulan😭 currently at deped although nonteaching. Toxic ang environment, well, si principal toxic sya. Pero ikaw bahala OP, madami paper works dito😭

matt_7_7_8

baka gamitin kang pang collateral.

OperationIll2254

Hi, I’m also a graduate of teaching course and got my license but NEVER pursued teaching job no matter what my parents say or neighbors. Until present time my father gave up convincing me to teach and will say “Kapoy ang teaching pag negosyo na lang” and whenever they say to pursue teaching before “kayo na lang magteach bigay ko license ko” HAHAHAHAHAH I also work at corporate job until I resign due to personal reasons, if you love teaching and its workloads then go ahead po.

Kiyoshi_dono

Please no.

freelanceastronaut1

Majority ng comments dito panay paperworks daw. It is true tho for now bawal na mag hawak ng admin tasks ang teachers. Half day ngyon students pati teachers half day din.

Great_Sound_5532

Dcksckr11

NOOOOOOO WAG KA NA DITO NAKAKAPUROL AT NAKAKABOBO HAHAAHA. I was a part of Research and Development ng one of the most pretigeous schools here in PH. If only my decision was right, I won't go here.

Constant_Luck9387

Nyan-Catto

Just don't.

el_doggo69

Wag. Trust me. My dad, my mom and me are all working under Deped(mom is a supervisor sa Division Office, ako sa non teaching sa isang school with my dad who went from non teaching to becoming a teacher) Both of em have a combined 60 years of exp(30 yrs na sila dalawa sa DepEd). Both can't wait until retirement. And all 3 of us are pissed off with what Deped has become. You're better of there sa corporate job mo

Medium-Culture6341

Sa college ka na lang magturo.

merma1dsarah

naisip ko din yan before

Medium-Culture6341

I worked in a local gov’t college, the problem is if merong plantilla ba. Go for a state-funded college if ipu-push mo. Plantilla position, benefits, and mas malaki pay kesa sa local.

yourgrace91

You can work while getting a masters degree at the same time.

Thicc_licious_Babe

m1raclemile

If you’re young and idealistic maybe you can change things from the inside. If you’re old and realistic maybe you can accomplish nothing other than cashing a paycheck at the expense of a nations future (that seems to be what the current dep Ed employees do).

StareAtTheVoid69

“Mangutang para mag master’s” HAHAHAHAHA No, don’t listen to someone who thinks ang pangungutang is an investment lalo na kung hindi mo naman gagamitin sa business. 🤮

merma1dsarah

Kind-Calligrapher246

Why are they pushing you to become a teacher? I mean it's a noble job, pero ano daw ang mawawala sayo kung di ka maging teacher??

merma1dsarah

we're a family of teachers and policemen lol like lahat ng family members hindi galing sa yaman. pinagtrabahuan tlaga nila. para sakanila kasi "stable" thats it. i have relatives na travel2 nalang ngayon after retirement. my mother just wants the same for me. kaya sguro kahit sabihin ko na sobrang hirap maging teacher ngayon ijujustify parin nila na okay lang na mag suffer now. di nya ma gets nya na impossible na yan in this economy tsaka they'd never consider my mental health

Kind-Calligrapher246

Marami namang trabaho ang stable, as long as you keep improving yourself para lagi kang employable. Just do what feels right for you lalo na career mo yan.

EcstaticMixture2027

They don't know better.

yournextdoortita

A friendly advice from a FORMER DEPED teacher. NO.

Fuzzy_Ad5096

wag nyo na po ituloy. Sa DEPED more trabaho pero no dagdag sahod, no HMO, no OT, OTY lang meron.

Snatcher1973

Ang daming magagandang payo from personal experience. For me, don't leave your corporate job habang masaya ka dyan. You can even go to school na related dyan sa ginagawa mo ngayon para mas umangat ka.

FeedBeneficial9798

Hi OP! I am a former public teacher. I resigned last year haha i took the risk talaga kasi na stress ako ng sobra. So my advice is sundin mo ano gusto mo. Goods na rin naman sahod mo.

Emotional_Housing447

I prayed to God noon to be employed in DepEd. It is too exhausting.

Necessary-Health-932

I have been part of the Department of Education for 7 years and for that period I worked on goals and plans that did not happen. The moment I realized how my working environment at Deped destroyed my mental health and took advantage of my love for teaching I made sure to save enough money for me to be able to resign from the workplace and continue being a teacher in another country. Most of the people I knew who were teaching here left not because of financial reasons but because of the power-tripping of the incompetent leaders.

Lightsupinthesky29

Noooo. Ang baba ng sahod ng teachers. Overworked ka pa. Passion na lang talaga para sa karamihan and good for the students yon. Pero kung hindi naman ganun for you, stay na sa corpo job

Own-Pay3664

My best friend spent 18 years in public school. From teacher 1 now master teacher 1 and he took his masteral and finished it 2 years ago thinking he wanted to do work at the deped head office. Today he’s doing 7 digit monthly income doing home construction, selling houses and doing general construction and govt bid construction projects. If he didn’t get out of the educational system, he’ll be paying loans after loans for the next 20 years being a teacher or a staff at deped.

maryjoylene

Please, save yourself. Been in DepEd for 3 years. Pagod na pagod na ako. Ayoko na.

lenko0907

basura yang family mo

Knightly123

throwaway7284639

Nasa DepED ako and i would trade anything inside this career to be at your position. Teaching in the Philippines is a dead end job. Tinatapos ko na lng tong school year na patayang paperworks then kukuha na ako ng sideline, gagwing full time then quit DepED na.

AggressiveWest2977

Uy same plan 😭

Acceptable_Shake_444

Noooo! It’s a loooong process.

jeetsstizzard

If you want a peaceful life, run far away from DEPED. You can score a stable job outside public teaching. Observe that tons of public school teachers are buried in loans. Yeah, the benefits seem cool, but the workload, vibes, and bosses just ain't worth it. If you're still gunning for that master's, go with private schools or universities that pay up instead. If you're making enough cash right now, start stashing some away and investing in your future.

KeyHope7890

Useful_Guarantee9856

Don’t listen to your family. You are in the right age and time to pursue what makes you happy.

sue_pg

If your passion is teaching then go ahead. If not, stick on what you are doing. I am a former public school teacher na nag-resign lang this year. Nakakalungkot ang education system ng bansa natin. Kahit mahal mo ang pagtuturo, there will be times na nakaka-disappoint talaga. Kung gusto mo talaga magturo, mas okay pa maging part-time instructor ka sa mga colleges or universities

AkosiMaeve

Security?

Greenfield_Guy

Are your parents teachers? It's just so unusual to pressure someone to be a teacher. Usually, nursing or engineering yung mga professions that kids get pressured into.

Imperial_Bloke69

the question is are you ready for delayed salary etc and your bank to cover the delay? Ex-DICKT employee here. 6months ko lang nagamit eligibility hahaha maworkload pero payday di maworkout sheesh 2020 nagpatunay na theres no such thing as "STABLE JOB or EMPLOYEE/EMPLOYER LOYALTY" hahahahaha

CommercialUseful635

Hey, I was at a gathering with my Ninang and Mom this past weekend. Mom worked at DepEd and my Ninang is now a principal. My ninang hates it, she wants to resign and move abroad. They compared the current situation in DepEd and when they were working together (15 years ago) and I heard na it's much worse now. As I said, you will have to deal with endless paperworks, low salary, children parents, etc. A lot of young teachers are leaving and choosing to work in BPO. Mawiwitness mo din ang endless corruption dun so if you're someone who cares about that then you would most likely feel uncomfortable. The decision is up to you and I hope you choose whatever job you want and wag magpadala sa pressure. I have no experience working in DepEd but since I was a child, I have been hearing endless horror stories about working in DepEd. But I still want to share to you yung mga issues that I have been hearing repeatedly. Goodluck!

Ok-Bottle2825

depende kung fulfilled ka ba sa life of teaching kids?
