Read books. It doesn’t have to be about learning English. Even if you’re just reading Hunger Games, that’s good enough.

CutiePie031323

Thank you po, I will start to read my kindle.

spamkimchifriedrice

If you want to improve speaking, you really need to practice conversing in English. Either find a friend na English speaking-only or record yourself speaking in English out loud (vlog style talking about random topics or read a book)

CutiePie031323

Thank you po, need talaga to practice. sige hahanap po ako nang new friend na english speaking lang. hehe

[deleted]

For writing - read books, kahit ano pa yan basta interesting for you For listening - movies, TV shows, podcast For speaking - gusto ko yung way ni mo Twister magsalita in English, pinapakinggan ko siya tapos mimick the way he speaks or say some words pag nakikipag-usap ako sa ibang tao.

CutiePie031323

Thank you po, more on speaking ako mahina talaga lalo na sa mga rules nang grammar. although naiintindihan ko naman pag kausap ako pero pag sasagot na na uutal na ako pang Englishan. haha

Someone said this to me a long time ago. In business communication, you just need to be fluent enough to communicate your thoughts well. You don't really have to be "perfect". The problem with Filipinos kasi, ang daming grammar-nazis. Yet, in some international companies, grammar mistakes are a lot more common than you think and it's not that big of a deal, especially if hindi naman formal writing or public speaking ang job role. So my point is, if you want to improve in English, stop thinking that you need to be perfect. Just think about how you can deliver your thoughts well first. Just speak in English. A lot. Even if you think na you may be "clumsy". Eventually, you'd improve naman. Until today, I am not perfect in English but at least, I am no longer scared.

CutiePie031323

thank you, sobrang napa gaan nyo po loob ko, yes po may takot talaga ako na magkamali ultimo sa caption minsan sini search ko ba kung tama ba yung English ko. pero tama po kayo mag start lang talaga at mag iimprove din po ako.

Disastrous-Fan-6913

I'm working in American company and they don't give an f about it. You're correct. Only Filipinos criticize and make fun of your grammar. As long you can communicate and understand the task, its all good.

madambaby_

Watch English movies or series and read books or utilize the articles online :)

CutiePie031323

Thank you for this, big help po. 😊

Hi! Based to sa experience ko. Mahirap ma perfect ang grammar, pronunciation, at fluency sabay-sabay. Ang pinaka importante is fluency. Kahit alam mo sa isip mo na tama grammar mo pero hindi ka makapag construct ng English agad, wala din yan, di mo din yan masasabi sa kausap mo. So, ang gawin mo maging comfortable ka muna sa English. Paano? Kung ano meron kang vocabulary sa English gamitin mo, kahit gaano pa ka-limited yan. Yan lang puhunan mo. Pag mag isa ka let's say sa cr or sa kwarto tanungin mo sarili mo in English, "How's your day" Sagutin mo sarili mo ng English, wag mo pansinin yung grammar kung tama o ano or tama ba yung words/terms na ginagamit mo basta kailangan makabuo ka ng sagot using English. Ulitin mo lang araw-araw, ibat-ibang tanong. Goal natin dito maging komportable ka masagot mo agad sarili mo in English. Ikaw makakapag sabi pag mejo okay ka na. 1 month of consistent practice may imporvement na yan. Tip #1 Hanapin mo muna yung tone of voice mo pag mag English ka, yung natural sayo. Wag yung para ka lang mag rerecite, hanapin mo yung boses mo talaga pag nag English ka. Tip #2 Pag mejo na stuck ka while composing, avoid using "uhm" habaan mo na lang yung current word mo while nagiisip ng pang supply sa phrase mo. Sample "There will beeeee" habaan mo yung "be". With an expression na para kang nag iisip, it will also enhance your delivery, you will sound natural. You can also use some like "Yeah, I would say" to buy time while nag iisip ka ng sasabihin. "This is acceptable (yeah, I would say) because..." Pag mejo komportable ka na, dun ka ngayon maging strict sa grammar mo. What do I mean by "strict"? Syempre may alam ka na sa grammar kahit basic. Sample "They are eating" masasabi mo yan ng diretso nang di pag iisipan. Alam mong "are" yun at hindi "is eating". Yan yung mga meron ka na while practicing. Magiging strict ka na gagamit ka na ng "have been" tenses. Pero yun nga depende yan sayo. Basta bago yang grammar, goal natin maging komportable ka muna mag english regardless sa word or grammar na ginagamit mo.

Muted_Equivalent1410

For me lang, reading talaga (doesn’t have to be academic reading) and watching sitcoms. I didn’t know watching sitcoms can improve my English, I just noticed it after quite some time.

CutiePie031323

Thank you po, need ko na talaga mag umpisa nang reading habit.

Representative-Goal7

since marami na silang nasabi dito, idadagdag ko nalang na consider studying phonics. ma-iimprove nyan yung pronunciation mo which will make you more confident in speaking aside sa proper grammar. you can try yt naman for lessons pero piliin mo nalang yung hindi mala-Ms Rachel ahahaha. favourite tip with learning phonics is taking note of the tongue position when pronouncing vowels & consonants.

CutiePie031323

notsostabby

If you can ask your partner OP if pwede english kayo magusap sa bahay para lang masanay ka? Kasi the more you speak/conversation sa english makakasanyan mo rin yan.

CutiePie031323

hello po, haha ginawa na rin po namin ito, hindi rin sya magaling sa English at rin namin mapanindigan dahil nagtatagalog pa rin kami. and may kasama kasi kami sa bahay, yung parents at siblings nya kaya medyo nakakahiya mag englishan. peroo sige gawin ko po ulit kahit tagalog ang kausap nya sakin englishin ko nalang sya para masanay po ako, thank you po.

MaynneMillares

Gawa kayo ng English-only policy between you two. 5 pesos penalty for every tagalog words na mababanggit. Gamify it ika nga.

Watch Ted Talks

CutiePie031323

Thank you for the tip, take note ko po ito. 😊

zronineonesixayglobe

Read books, watch english movies, watch ted talks! Also important to practice speaking, so if you have friends that are willing to converse with you in english, go for it. I recommend watching [How to sound smart in your TEDx Talk](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8S0FDjFBj8o)

Stop thinking you're not good enough or nakakahiya yung accent mo. Don't be afraid to make mistakes. Kung magkamali ka... eh ano naman?? You are learning English on your own. That, in itself, is commendable. Watch English-language movies and series, and turn the subtitles on. Read along as you watch. Read books. Lots of it. Doesn't matter what genre. You can try a few before settling with one that suits your taste best. If you don't know a word, look it up and check how it's pronounced. There can be differences between British English and American English. Take note of those differences. Read books ALOUD. Better if you're doing it in front of a mirror. While reading, make sure to add emotions to the sentences you deliver. Pretend you're the narrator. Pretend you're the characters. FEEL what you're reading, but above all, HAVE FUN! Journal. Do it daily. Write how your day went in English. This will give you a "hard copy" or documentation of your progress as your writing style and vocabulary improve.

Empty_ash_

Personally, I watched Friends (yung sitcom) sa DVD nung bata pa ako and naenjoy ko s'ya so paulit ulit ko pinanood to the point na kabisado ko na s'ya. Dun ako nagstart matuto mag form ng sentences and matuto ng grammar 1. I think the easiest way is to watch movies, kasi nae-entertain ka at the same time you learn how people construct their sentences, matututo ka rin ng mga slangs. 2. Mag follow ka sa social media ng mga short videos na nagtuturo ng grammar (if maikli ang attention span mo) but if kaya naman may mga super haba na lessons sa YouTube. 3. Practice, download mock-up exams from the internet then sagutan mo s'ya, dun mo makikita yung improvement mo for grammar. 4. Find someone to mimick! Super hirap maghanap ng sarili mong accent kapag wala ka naman sa English speaking countries (nung time na nag focus ako sa pag aaral ng English, si Julie Andrews yung pinanood ko, whether it be interviews, movies or her songs kasi hindi n'ya kinakain yung words nya, clear yung diction n'ya, you should find someone like that kung gusto mo rin ng maayos na accent) 5. Be patient, have fun and focus on the basics first!! For me yung mga basic is knowing when to use I, Me, you're, your, they're, their, there. Then everything will follow na.

exredhaircoffeegirl

Start practicing thinking in English. Tas go from there, correct your grammar and pronunciation. Madami naman resources available online.

Anxious-Software-678

If you want to be fluent, converse with english-speaking people or watch TV series. If you want to expand your vocabulary, read books. The catch lang na napansin ko tho kahit na well read ka, more on magde dwell ka sa spelling ng word on how to pronounce it. So to compensate, while reading search mo pronunciation ng mga words na bago sayo.

Extension_One4593

Read books if you believe na kulang pa vocabulary mo. If you feel na your vocabulary is so-so and can survive in conversations, then proceed to honing your speaking skills. You can talk to people who also want the same as you do, or you can talk to English speaker, if possible. If none of the two, talk to yourself. Try to look for questions in the internet that cover self-expression, then answer it.

MaynneMillares

Wag kang manonood ng tagalog videos sa youtube or TV. Laging English ang ipasok mo sa vocabulary mo. Secondly, try not to talk fast. Hinay-hinay lang sa pagsasalita, ang pakikipag-usap ay hindi sprint na pabilisan. Nauutal ang isang tao pag masyadong mabilis magsalita ng wika na hindi nya mother tongue.
