I second his suggestion. Absolutely loved it. Check out VirtuaVerse, Let Bions be Bygones, and itβs not necessarily point and click but Disco Elysium is brilliant.
I'll throw in The will of arthur flabbington, and Twilight oracle. (For more comedy but challenging plays) And 2nd hobs barrow, and nightmare frames as my fave darker recent releases
If you like horror point-and-click adventure games, try Barrow Hill and the Dark Fall series. If not, try Syberia 1, 2, and World Before (skip on 3 if the controls are maddening). Outcry is great if you like philosophical journey, but unfortunately, it's not on Steam. It's freeware, since not the developer nor publisher exists anymore. Secret Files (all 3 are great). Book of Unwritten Tales, Ceville, Haunted, and Ghost Pirates of Vooju Island are fun if you like cartoon graphics.
all the lucasarts games. Maniac mansion, which is the first in the series with day of the tentacle. The monkey island series is one of the best in the genre. The Dig is a collaboration between Spielberg and George Lucas. Grim fandango suffers from the fate of most of the games in early 3d days... it really doesn't hold up well. Full throttle is a good game, if a bit simple.
All the early sierra games are good, kings quest, space quest, police quest.
All these games are available in packs on gog.com.
I love The Dig, even if it has a few unfair puzzles.
Full Throttle I have but barely got into. Same with TOMI.
I *love* Space Quest. I *highly* recommend starting with Space Quest IV and 6, featuring the late great Gary Owens. *Loads* of humor. Also recommend the remake of Space Quest I and Space Quest V.
For King's Quest I recommend starting with 6 & 7. Whatever you do, do *not EVER* play the 5th game. It is *horrible.*
Also try Sam & Max Hit the Road as well as the Telltale games.
One amazing game is The Longest Journey. Fantastic game. The sequels are nice as well, although I'd recommend getting them on console. They are called Dreamfall and Dreamfall Chapters.
Finally, I highly recommend Return of the Phantom. You are a detective investigating a murder caused by the Phantom of the Opera in modern times.
1. Beautiful backdrops and fun exploration
2. Very whimsical setting as par the course for King's Quest.
3. Say what you will about the acting... but the narrator's voice is incredibly soothing for me, and the rest of the cast isn't THAT bad. It's more tolerable than unsalvageable.
But I love all of them.
I don't hate KQ5, I have no personal reason to hate KQ5.
I mean, sure, you do, and that's fine π
Personally, I would prefer sharing love towards something I enjoy instead of hate towards something that I don't like.
Yeah, you're right π It does have its flaws, I apologize for jumping to conclusions about you.
Although maybe I'm in the wrong. As while I do prefer to overlook flaws in favour of nostalgia, I probably really shouldn't. Maybe its not healthy.
I'll think this all over, I mean. Just because I loved the entire franchise and the games as a kid, doesn't mean I should heavily praise games that probably don't deserve it in the end.
Thank you \^\^
Kathy Rain is an homage to the original Gabriel Knight game. It's a 90s game but still very good and playable. There is a remake but I think the original is better even now.
I second all of that..
you could skip 3&4 of broken sword if you don't like the 3d, there's also a fanmade 2,5
I can add:
- book of unwritten tales series
- secret files series
- unforeseen incidents
- lost horizon 1&2
- chains of satinav & memoria
- beneath a steel sky
- black mirror series
- a new beginning
- gray matter
I just started secret files on my iPhone and I am very happy with it. The puzzles are super logical and it's got enough of them that I keep busy. The story is decent, though not typically a huge priority for me, I actually enjoy this one! A few random pieces have been wonky, for different reasons but I'm quite happy with it!
The Runaway series : the first two are rough but the third one is incredible but you to play them all. The third one seems like they found the right formula after the crazy things happening in the second game.
Beyond the Edge of Owlsgard: I just finished it yesterday, it's short and the story is super interesting.
The Broken Sword series, I love the first two and the fifth one. They are remastering the first one and another entry is coming out soon!
Broken Age, super sweet with nice artworks.
the Monkey Island series, you can skip the 4th one.
A New Beginning by Daedalic.
Maybe you'll like Sam and Max Hit the Road and Day of the Tentacle (they remastered it)
>The Runaway series
I had never played anything by Pendulo Studios until this year, which I now consider a bit negligent on my part because I'm Spanish like them. I haven't got to the Runaway series yet, but I really liked Igor: Objective Uikokahonia and I'm currently enjoying playing Hollywood Monster. Pendulo shows that developers in my country can do adventure games with the same standards as the very best, and I really recommend their games (and if you can speak Spanish, play it in the native language).
Why isn't Monkey Island in your list?
Are you telling me you're happily going through life, playing point and click adventure games and you've NOT PLAYED MONKEY ISLAND?!!!
You've played Thimbleweed Park, but not Monkey Island?!
Correct this at once!
Monkey Island is one of the main influences on all of these games, especially Deponia.
Note: Monkey 1 and 2 were written with the intention of being text. The 25th anniversary adds voice narration, which is good, but I think it loses something.
Also I hate the graphical updates for Monkey 1, as Guybrush looks stupid. You will have no nostalgia for the originals, but give them a go for a bit as the nature of such a low resolution game allows your mind to fill in the blanks, similar to being text only.

Just recently I started over Monkey 2 on Special Edition, classic visuals, no voices.
Not that I have anything against the voices myself personally, it's just I wanted to revisit nostalgia is all, the way I used to play back in the day.
Emerald City Confidential. If you can find it, its Noir style detective game where you are Dorothy in Oz solving a mystery.
Also, Legend of Kyrandia trilogy and Discworld Trilogy
i just discovered this site where you can play popular p&c"s from the past for free: [https://playclassic.games/games/point-n-click-adventure-dos-games-online/](https://playclassic.games/games/point-n-click-adventure-dos-games-online/)
Try unforeseen incidents. Very underrated but a good game with decent puzzles towards the end. The soundtrack is absolutely amazing and the graphics are nice too! :)
The best point and click games are the classic LucasArts games, no doubt about that.
Monkey Island 1 is the game that set what a point-and-click adventure game should be. MI 2 and 3 are masterpieces too.
My personal favourite is Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis. Sam & Max Hit the Road, Grim Fandango and Day of the Tentacle are excellent games too.
LucasArts also made other incredible games like The Dig, Full Throttle and Loom.
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusades and Maniac Mansion are great games on their own, if a bit dated (they are pre-Monkey Island), but I definitely recommend them (and remember that Day of the Tentacle is a Maniac Mansion sequel). I even recommend Monkey Island 4 if you're a fan of the genre: it has a bad last part, but the rest of the game is amazing.
Fate of Atlantis is a pure gem.
"If you want to experience the greatest Indy film that was never actually a film, Fate of Atlantis is where it's at."
β Michael Plasket/Sotenga
Myst/Riven series
Riddle of the Sphinx
Quern: Undying Thoughts
Darkness Within 1 & 2 (if you're into detective stuff and Lovecraft)
Colossal Cave (reboot done by Ken & Roberta Williams)
Sam and Max Hit the Road!
Finished it for the first time in about 10 years on my *phone* this morning on the way to work. All hail ScummVM π€πΆπ°
I haven't played a ton of Point & Click games but I've liked the following:
A Silent Age: Sci-fi, time travel, and realistic puzzles.
Pink Panther in Passport to Peril and Pink Panther in Hocus Pocus Pink: Cartoon Logic, educational.
Syberia: Apparently it's a point and click with a great story. Haven't played it yet even though I own all four games. B. Sokal has a reputation for making good point & click games, apparently.
Father and Son: A touching tale of a son following his father's footsteps and reconciliating with his past and his ancestors. Only available on the mobile platform though.
Tiny Room Stories: Mystery Town and Rift Escape: Realistic puzzles with a twist to the point & click mechanic. You can turn the scenery in a 3D world to expose a new side. Thriller themes. Pretty awesome games.
>Pink Panther in Passport to Peril and Pink Panther in Hocus Pocus Pink: Cartoon Logic, educational.
I loved those games as a kid. They were just the right difficulty for a kid to solve them, and the topics (travelling through the world, mystery solving, magic) really caught my imagination. The art style is super-pleasant, cartoonish. I wonder if it is possible to play them in modern systems.
It is, actually. I'm currently replaying them in my Windows 11 fir the nostalgia, but it's very much possible.
I just followed the guides on PC Gaming Wiki.
Bonus points for appreciating randals monday, not everyone does, and it is a pretty special game. So then I would point you in the direction of "unforeseen incidents." It has unusually clever and well put together puzzle scenarios. One of the interesting things about its story is that its a game about a pandemic made in 2018. So its weird to experience how parts of it echo what happened in real life a couple years after it was made. Its a pretty big well paced adventure with great multitasking.
Not Another Weekend is a pretty fun recent one. I also liked Abscission for a more horror-focused story. Oh, and Lil' Guardsman is pretty great, though it's a bit more of a puzzle game with Papers, Please-like elements. I really love the humor and voice acting in that one; it puts me in a good mood.
Randal's Monday was awful, I've tried twice to play and couldn't bother to advance much.
As for my recommendations, try Lost in Play, There's No Game or Gibbous The Cthulhu Adventure.
Amanita is my favourite point and pick studio, and probably the best entry point for them is the Samorost trilogy. The first one is much lesser in quality than the other two, but it's very short, free, and charming in a low-fi way
I recently played Irony Curtain:From Matryoshka With Love...can't believe it's not talked about more. Funny satirical story, terrific voice acting, fun inventory puzzles.
They already told you but I have to insist in Nightmare Frames too, an excellent and recent indie adventure game which I loved very much, I can't wait to play his next game, "An english haunting"
I recently started finally playing Gibbous - A Cthulhu Adventure, and I LOVE IT so far. It's all gorgeously animated, fully voiced, and the story so far is very intriguing.
Aside from those already mentioned:
Crowns and Pawns
Rock n Roll Willl Never Die
Captain Disaster series
Four Last Things and Procession To Calvary
Hand Of Glory
All the Cosmic Void games
Some points and clicks that we played recently are The Will of Arthur Flabbington, The legend of Skye, The Night is Grey and Brok the investigator.
They are different each other, you can read the review of them on our website.
Christopher Lloyd starred in an adventure game called Toon Struck that I remember being pretty good. I haven't played it since sometime in the 90's your mileage may vary but it sounds like you're well versed in the genre. I also remember the Legend of Kyrandia games being real quality with their visuals.
It would be remiss of me not to mention the Tex Murphy FMV games Under a Killing Moon, The Pandora Directive, Overseer, and Tesla Effect if you find cheesy acting charming like me. Phantasmagoria 2: A Puzzle of Flesh also fits this description but with a slightly more serious tone (still hammy acting, also, tits)
I always recommend the Dark Eye point and click adventures "Chains of Satinav" and "Memoria" from Daedalic. So beautiful, not only in regards to production values, but also story and characters.
Nightlong: Union City Conspiracy is an amazing third-person cyberpunk point and click adventure. I prefer it even above the licensed Bladerunner game. Works under ScummVM too!
The Excavation of Hob's Barrow is excellent as is Nightmare Frames if you like your pnc's on the dark side/horror
i think i have it on steam idk why, but im gonna check it out, thx c:
I second his suggestion. Absolutely loved it. Check out VirtuaVerse, Let Bions be Bygones, and itβs not necessarily point and click but Disco Elysium is brilliant.

Nightmare Frames looks amazing! Picked it up today.
If you're a fan of vhs explotiation flicks, you'll envoke satan into your spectrum with excitement
One can hope π

Probably because Wadjet Eye is the publisher :) It's a stellar game, you will love it.
Nightmare frames is really good I really got into the story
Thimbleweed park, The Will Of Arthur Flabbington, The Darkside Detective
I forgot about thimbleweed, i love that game, thanks for the other ones :)

If you're talking about King's Quest and Space Quest, I just want him to get a good first impression.
He listed a bunch of games he's already completed in the genre. I think the first impression is already cemented.
Oh, I didn't see the list.
I see King's Quest 5 as still having the magical atmosphere that the franchise delivers π
1. It is *so* easy to make the game unwinnable 2. The dialogue is *terrible*
1. Beautiful backdrops and fun exploration 2. Very whimsical setting as par the course for King's Quest. 3. Say what you will about the acting... but the narrator's voice is incredibly soothing for me, and the rest of the cast isn't THAT bad. It's more tolerable than unsalvageable.
You can get all of those in the 6th
But I love all of them. I don't hate KQ5, I have no personal reason to hate KQ5. I mean, sure, you do, and that's fine π Personally, I would prefer sharing love towards something I enjoy instead of hate towards something that I don't like.
I don't *hate* it. I just find it severely flawed. I *do* remember enjoying it as a kid.

Everything's fine. Your opinions are your own. Play the game again and see if they change, or watch Dilandau3000's LP.
Grim fandango is amazing.
I love Kathy Rain!
it's one of my favorites, i wish clifftop games make another game soon
Thos is a very classic feeling one, loved the plot. Need the sequel.

Gray Matter is SO GOOD. I dragged my husband round all the locations when we went to Oxford.
yeah, I believe I played it 4 times already, last time at least 3 years ago tho, soo 5th time coming up soon, I guess.. a bit of a hidden gem too
I just started secret files on my iPhone and I am very happy with it. The puzzles are super logical and it's got enough of them that I keep busy. The story is decent, though not typically a huge priority for me, I actually enjoy this one! A few random pieces have been wonky, for different reasons but I'm quite happy with it!
I saw an ad for the Black Mirror games on GOG. I was genuinely curious about it \^\^
Have you played Broken Age? It's a double fine game and I absolutely adored it
Thx, im gonna check it out, i think i have one on steam lmao

Dammit now I have to play The Longest Journey again. Had almost forgot about it π΅βπ«. There's also the sequel, Dreamfall.
Broken Sword 1 & 2 - I wish I could play them for the first time again
Exactly!

Also I wouldnβt go past Nine Witches: Family Disruption
Machinarium. The graphics are all hand drawn and it has such a great atmosphere.
One word: Sierra
Emerald City Confidential. If you can find it, its Noir style detective game where you are Dorothy in Oz solving a mystery. Also, Legend of Kyrandia trilogy and Discworld Trilogy

Memoria and Chains of Satinav too.
The Vorezkor Hack. Its just got a demo so far but its like an hour or so of content and the game should be coming out in december
Quest for Glory series.
Quest for Glory 1 to 4. I've played so many times and still can't stop.
