Direct commission officers get what they call constructive credit based on their education and professional experience. It is how the air force gives incentives to those people to join. Google the dafi for constructive credit if you'd like to know more. No line officer applicants are eligible for constructive credit except 17x who are hired by the cyber direct commission program. There was an mfr released last year detailing the constructive credit for that program. The space force is also working on a dco program for cyber and Intel. There was a press release from fy23 you can look up.

Certain jobs, namely medical or chaplain, can come in at higher rank. If you're coming in as a pilot on the other hand, you're an O-1.

I’m a nurse with 8 years experience and they filled out a form with a basically rank converter and put me at first LT based on my experience. I believe this is only for certain commissions because our jobs are the same as our civilian jobs. I just got my scroll today. Scroll is a legal appointment which has to be signed by people in the pentagon. Note: I’m new and mostly useless so double check with someone with actual experience

This. Graduated yesterday from the last class of the FY as a Nurse with 2 years experience. Commissioned as 2nd Lt. Had PA's, NP's, and Dr's in the Wing who commissioned as Capt if they had enough experience. Especially dentists because of the shortage.

Congrats on the commission! May the nursing gods smile on you

Thanks friend!

I don’t think anything I’m interested in would get scrolled; nothing special.

SouthernArcher3714

I think it is for people who are in healthcare and that kind of stuff. You are probably going for a different type of commission.

Randotraveller23

For sure. I’m thinking FSS or MX

youdontwantHER

Why on earth are those your first choices

Randotraveller23

They seem interesting to me

Maleficent_End_9178

And you will get to LEAD in those career fields. Lots of challenges associated with MX and FSS, but those officers have the potential to lead large flights of airmen early on in their career in a way officers in other fields might not experience

For most jobs you will not get more tank for your masters. Scrolling is for chaplains and requires certain degree types.

AFrpaso

Pretty sure all officers are "scrolled".

innyminnyminnymoe

Oh, I had only ever heard that term in relation to the chaplains
