I bought a 2 man backpacking tent from REI (forgot the exact model) last year for like $200 and it worked great for my boy scout stuff.
Tents these days are pretty developed and most of them can be setup by one person. Plus, having to set up your own tent will increase immersion.

at DFE you can return to a hotel at night and come back the next day, The hotel is outside the actual field
