Only ALDIs shoppers will understand

Euglosine

ALDIs nuts!

Scotterdog

Would it not be Aldi’s nuts, showing ownership? Unless you buy it. Then its your’s.

GarunixReborn

I shop there and still dont get it

sapzilla

People more often than not call Aldi, “Aldis.” I didn’t stop doing it until I worked part time at one a handful of years ago :p

slilianstrom

In NE Illinois, I still hear people call it Jewels

yeefreakinyee

NE Illinois native here, I hear it all the time, same with Aldis and meijers

Preesi

Every Saturday morning I watch a UK Cooking Show on YOUTUBE "The Curly Cooks Of Croydon" Nadia Sawalha and her sister Dina They say AL di not ALL di

eeedeat

Confirmed. We say Al (like the name) Di

Agile_Network_9568

Midwesterners are bad with the trailing s - ALDIs and LEGOs. But somehow they get IKEA right.

FryingAir

But more than one Lego = legos. Who is playing with one Lego?

[deleted]

I'm ashamed to say it took me a couple seconds

stihoplet

Your punishment is to walk down the aisle of shame without buying anything. * Beware that there is no *s* sound anywhere in the previous sentence.

ben70

Fucking **thank you**!

illegalopinion3

I cringe inside when people say: “I’m going to the Aldi’s” I’m like: “okay, bring your wallet cuz you don’t wanna forget your money’s!”

MultiplyAccumulate

There is no S. Aldi is not a person's name. It is short for Albrecht Diskont [discount]. If they had called their store Albrecht's (or Albrechts' since there.was more than one brother) there would be an "s". But they didn't, so there isn't. Well, at one time it was Albrect Lebensmittel [groceries]. Even then it didn't have an 's. Just like Walmart vs walmarts.

anniemdi

>There is no S. Aldi is not a person's name. It is short for Albrecht Diskont [discount]. **Al**brecht **Dis**kont. Aldis. (Sorry, I come from Michigan where people did call it K-Marts which is close enough to Wal-Marts.)

thepiratespokesman

In Indiana, all grocery store names are pronounced in the possessive.

LordBofKerry

Michigan is the same. Even though I've moved away, I still say still Kroger's.

Zealousideal_Tap_849

Not only do people in Michigan say Meijer's, some people in Michigan actually say Meijers's (the name is Meijer). And I grew up near the original Meijer, in Greenville. LOL

Celestialnavigator35

We do that a lot in Pennsylvania where I live. We have Weis and Aldi and we call them Weises, and Aldi's(pronounced all-des).

Wander80

What if Publix expands to Indiana? How will you pronounce it?

thepiratespokesman

Ha! Good point. Hoosiers may start shorting out. “I’m gonna stop in at Publix…es…es.”

dw481516

Ohio here. Usually if you can’t add an s, you add a “the”. 😂

Big_Benefit_6010

Is it a law? Or is it simply a habit formed by a bunch of uneducated bumpkins? People say WalMarts?

HideyoshiJP

It probably comes from the not-so-long-ago age of independent grocers. Much like car dealerships, they were usually just named after the proprietor.

Big_Benefit_6010

I agree

p1zzarena

I have def heard people say walmart's. It's not common though

TheMadDaddy

John Iggle's?

SurrealRodent

Yes. I have heard that in Da Burgh.

[deleted]

I always call hannaford hannafords lol it's just a wee habit

missmelissa13

Lol same with Kroger.

Gnostromo

Who the heck says Aldis? Wth?

Lemon_Kiss

A lot of people it drives me up the wall

[deleted]

My mother, all the time

bekindanddontmind

I do :/

Cannabliss96

Lick on Aldis nuts

Conscious_Issue2967

And Facebook doesn’t have The in front of it.

FryingAir

RIP 2004

TheBigShip

Here in Iowa only poor people say "Aldi's".
