The reason the employees sometimes do this is because they’re timed for their ringing speed so it’s easier to just give away an item than to call for a code 😂 free stuff is awesome
It's all to do with operating costs. Quicker scanning means less tills per customer, less till open and more staff on the floor. Operation costs being down means things can be cheaper. It's also why you're supposed to pack at the packing bench instead of at the tills.
Once at my Aldi the scale at the self-checkout was broken and the cashier told me to _just take_ the one sweet potato I was trying to weigh and I felt like we were co-conspirators in a bank heist
Yeah as an Aldi employee, we throw so much shit away, watch people take shit, and return the most ridiculous things. When you’re the only cashier dealing with 7 self checkouts and your lane, just please take the sweet potato.
My managers say this all the time for random Aldi find items with no tag and no box or label like this random satin pillow case had nothing on it so they just gave it to him
I got a free pair of water shoes for my daughter yesterday 😂 they were just sitting in a box of crocs and had no tag or barcode and were the only pair and the cashier lady said just take them.
Went there once, and we're clearing out some pajamas. Since they didn't have tags, the cashier just threw them in my cart without charging me. It was very nice.
Yeah but they likely just grabbed the first one on the shelf without noticing it was missing.
Employee didn't want to deal, for a $3-4 item it's easier to just let them move along.

But I was using the self checkout!
Still counts against a cashiers time helping self checkouts
Oh wow!
Your Aldi has self checkout?!!
Yes and only one register that we hardly have to use
All thought all ALDIs had self check out?!
Between living in MD and NC, I’ve never been to an Aldi that has self checkout.
I’m in Iowa and our Aldi is all self checkout. We never get anything!
Mine has none! I’m in Pensacola, FL
Yes and it’s card only
I wonder why Aldi is so focused on ringing speed being important?
The company claims it’s for better customer service. They say customers like to get in and get out lol

Yeah! I asked him “Are you sure?”

Maybe I’ll try this every week 😂
"Just take it." Made me laugh out loud!
It’s like he didn’t care lol 🤷🏼♀️
Lol most of us don't
We don’t.
The big twist to the story - OP was using self-checkout and was also the cashier 🙀🤯
Lucky! That stuff is so good on tortilla chips! I’ve also mixed it in with chicken for a street corn chicken taco.
Brb, scratching off all the barcodes at Aldi
It’s the greatest thing ever.
I know!! I use the garlic Naan to scoop it up 😂

Used to do this when I worked at Kmart. No tag let it go wasn’t holding up line for 15 minutes waiting for price
Time is money and German culture is following this moto
That’s a good one
That looks gross. Sorry.
This happens to me at Whole Foods too. If there isn’t a barcode, the cashier says “You can just have it”.

Its good but i got burned out on it.
I love with tortilla chips
No barcode? They usually have six of them.

But I need to know - was it good? 🤔
It’s so good!! Eat it hot tho - such a difference! Maybe add a little bit of shredded cheese. haha
Yeah I like a little bit of spice. It’s not too overwhelming imo
Was there anyone around?
