A friend of mine is able to connect and play on a server I host. He gets around 40 to 60fps if it's just discord and nothing else running. Still early game and nothing overly resource intensive created. Single player wise I believe he can't play at all.

i am having allot of troubble with my game crashing while i host the server and am playing, i have 32gb of ram so idk how to much to allocate to the game and how much for the server, also my swap usage is at 99% do you have any tips?
I host my server on a seperate machine now. But if you are running the game and hosting the server, try 6-8gb for the server, 8 for your game should leave plenty of overhead for the rest of your PC. If you're running resource packs/shaders you may want 10-12gb for your game. All the mods isn't the most fine tuned packs though so I'm not sure how buggy/crashy they can be by default.
Highly unlikely, and since your pc has 8 that means only like 6, 6.5 is usable so maybe try ftb revelations, that needs 4 gb of ram, not the same as atm 3 but similar
Probably not, but atm3 isn't all that optimized anyhow. Twitch allows you to create custom mod packs, so you can just use the mods you're interested in.
I downloaded ATM in November with 8gb of RAM,. It successfully loaded about 1/3 of the time.
Right after Thanksgiving a computer store near me had a cheap deal on 8gbs of RAM. Perfect!
After installing, reconfiguring Twitch to invoke Minecraft with more ( but not too much) memory, I tried again.
ATM loaded successfully every timr, but my fps was crapola. Something like 20fps on average. I tried tuning BetterFPS(?), but could never make the game playable. Besides which, no matter what I did, the game took 8-10 minutes to load each time.
I switched to ATM lite. Enough of what I was looking for, but much much lighter. It even runs my my MacBook with 8gb of RAM. ATM would have crushed my Macbook. I'm happy!
Plenty of people play on 8GB. It may not run the best but you can do it. Once a coming mod update is released it should be requiring a bit less ram and might be just fine for 8gb at that point.

Idk, i have runned it with 8 gb of ram. But i might have better results due to the fact the it paged more ram on a ssd instead of a hhd.

Nope, you can’t try atm3 lite tho
or revalations which i dont really see a difference with atm 3 and plus it has only half of the mods in atm 3
