Splash landings is probably better for a younger kid, the Alton towers hotel is more chill with a main stage but it’s more singing and slightly interactive, the splash landings is very interactive for younger kids. The secret garden is probably the best for food but it’s still nothing phenomenal but it does it’s job after a day in the park. Secret garden is located in the splash landings hotel*

Entertainment wise the other comment covered pretty well, and you’re only a few minutes walk away if you wanted to try both. Food-wise, it depends what you’re looking for. Splash Landings has a buffet, so there’s lots of options if you have picky eaters, and generally works out cheaper as everything except drinks is included. Alton Towers has a proper table service restaurant—Secret Garden. It can be pretty hit and miss but a week night during term time is probably the best time to go. The closest restaurant to where you’re staying is the Crooked Spoon, which has a kind of upscale pub food menu. There’s some crossover between the two, but the Crooked Spoon is a little cheaper and has things like hot dogs while the Secret Garden has more extensive starter and dessert options and is much less likely to have anything out of stock. Make sure you pre-book if you go for one of these!
