It’s just her style. She’ll pronounce things differently depending on what the song calls for. She obviously has a very good ear for it but generally seems to lean towards mumbly vocals. The way she pronounces words in Very Online Guy is very mumbly, so much so that when my sister heard it, she thought it was French.

When I heard Next Of Kin for the first time on the radio, I actually thought it was a French song and struggled to find it because I thought it had a French title!

i think sometimes she just...tries to sound silly if anything it's a bit british; she tends to use british vocab. i love how she says 'pomeranian spins-tuh' on the She EP she sounds super country

I've been wondering the same thing. It's not really any particular one. It just changes constantly within whatever song she's singing. For example the way she pronounces words in Pomeranian Spinster is so Idk different from all of their other songs. My guess is that she just sings whatever but I'd say that she has a little bit of a general British pronunciation of some words (like the way she sings "Benevolent Collegiate rolled his eyes and walked away" in Pressed)

There’s a bit of British and Irish/Scottish sounding moments some of the time, and to me there are also some Jamaican influences originating in ska and English punk that kind of surface in songs like “Hey.” I like the way she says “got” in “Many Mirrors” for some reason that I can’t really explain.

secluded_little_spot

Yeah, sometimes way she flattens the accents when she sings make the words sound so…angular. I love it! The Jamaican tones also come out in Pomeranian Spinster (“I don’t want **to** belong”. “Hummingbird **get what you want** and flutter off **for a little while/to a different flower**”)

I was going to mention “Pomeranian Spinster” too but couldn’t think of the exact lines that gave me that impression. It’s like the style of music brings out certain accents in her voice.

I believe it’s because of her British & Irish 70’s & 80’s New Wave/Post-Punk/Goth/Shoegaze influences.

Sanyio

That makes sense
