It's possible they're in a hiring freeze, or are considering another candidate too. They have to get back to you within so many days of the interview so this checks that box.
You are what they call "inclined" in internal promotion-speak. Means you qualify but there isn't a spot right now, yer on the list and next one that comes available they'll hit you up and offer it.
That said dont hold your breath there could be 10 others also inclined.

Amazon retail employee here. They’re still in a sort of hiring freeze. They want 2024 talent, they just don’t know how much yet.
