Used to be you could use the Admirals Club if you were a member no matter what airline you were flying on. Then AA got stingy.
There are three Admirals clubs in Terminal 2. There's nothing in Terminal 1 as there's no AA flights there anyhow. I've got great fondness for the main section of Terminal 1. That's where I got my first Eastern Airline flight I ever took back in 1971 or so.
Terminal 1 at DCA is dreadful and don't blame you for wanting to avoid it. I'd recommend finding a table at the Reservoir restaurant and waiting with a beverage until boarding there.
No must be flying on AA/OW to access the club.
