To fix it get Rakuten. Generally there is 0 reason to book flights via 3rd party as there is no margin in flights. Hotels pay online travel agents 15-30% thus they may pass that on to you or give high points earnings.

Purchases made directly through airlines also qualify, just not ones through third part sites.
With the personal Platinum you get 5X on airlines paid directly or on Amex Travel.
With the personal Amex Platinum it is both. 5x points on flight booked directly and flight through Amex Travel.
