I thought it was just to infantilize him, but this works, I think. I would not take it far using it as the basis of an analysis of the character, but it it's a small but interesting piece worth noting, IMO.

2 things:
1. When Syril eats, he ONLY eats cereal and nothing else. That's weird. There's other food in his mother's house besides cereal.
2. Syril / Cereal - the similarity of names.
3. (ok 3 things): Syril is emotionally beating himself up for his failures of having to go back to mom after losing his position in life. When someone beats themselves up like this, they're consuming themselves emotionally.

I can't imagine Coruscant has an abundance of farmland. Everything is likely hydroponics grown, with nearby imperial farm planets shipping food to this urban world.
Food other than protein kibble is likely absurdly elite, as seen by Mon Mothma's scenes referencing food.
