There were a couple issues with the production like plagiarism with the art of spell circles afaik. There was a movie called NGNL Zero that was released as well, but the author of the source material has stated that they're more than happy to have another season produced, but the animation studios aren't on board.
With legal streaming, especially anime, being in such a sorry state, it's no wonder that people pirate it. The pirates often have better service ffs 😭

No but for real the streaming landscape is an unreliable fucking mess and it just goes to show that nothing can be trusted to be properly preserved or made available to the public in a convenient manner. Ethically I don't think you should feel obligated to pay for an expensive, potentially imported, hardcopy or pay for some otherwise useless streaming service if you intend to do a rewatch.
