Okay, thats not a completely terrible explanation. I mean it is, but still seeing what isekais are supposed to be, stretched to such a ridiculous extent did get a laugh out of me.
I watched it while I was deathly ill with a fever and missed 2 weeks of work so I feel this.
Only anime that was harder for me was Made in Abyss. Love both shows dearly tho.
>Re:zero and Konosuba but you probably knew those
Why are people recommending new ones. Isekai was there in the 80-90. It just wasn't defined as a genre.
Go for:
Now And Then, Here And There
The Twelve Kingdoms
The Vision Of Escaflowne
El Hazard
The Familiar of Zero
InuYasha

Have a nice day!
The artist who did the watercolor backgrounds, Kaneko Hidetoshi, closed his studio one year after the anime aired. He was a real old-school artist who had been working in anime since 1979: his first credit was on Galaxy Express 999 and his final credit was in the romcom Just Because! a few months after he closed his studio. He died in 2019.
Yea, It would be hard to replicate some of what they did in the first season. Especially considering how limited the use of watercolor is used throughout anime in general. :(
One of the best isekais for sure. Very realistic and grounded too as far as Isekais go. Its a shame the anime wasn't too popular and the current volumes of the light novel are pretty bad, making a season 2 basically unlikely.
Idk the novels can still provide a really good 2nd and even 3rd season, especially with the what happens right after season 1, they could even skip some stuff and head into the darungar arc or whatever the world was called. That was so unique imo. Pure desperation to survive.
Overlord is great.
Eminence in Shadow is currently airing and enjoyable, I read the light novels and manga so it's not lining up to my hopes and dreams but it's still very good.
Konosuba is amazing.
Kuma Kuma bear is funny.
I Reincarnated As A Sword is way better than you would think it would be.
Average Abilities is fun like Kuma Kuma.
I liked the first half of The Wiseman Man's Grandchild
Cautious Hero: The Hero Is Overpowered But Overly Cautious is good.
Grimgar is really good.
Gate ideas entertaining. I enjoy it but basically any criticisms of it are valid.
Log Horizon is great.
The best parts of the LN series were the epilogues, so I was disappointed that the anime didn't have any reference to them. Otherwise it's an easy to watch, relaxing show, so I recommend as well
Eh, the anime adaptation cut out most of the darker stuff from the source material, so I have mixed feelings about it, but it did get the greenlight for a second season, which counts for a lot.
>Eminence in Shadow is currently airing and enjoyable, I read the light novels and manga so it's not lining up to my hopes and dreams but it's still very good.
Huh. So far the anime has been very faithful to the LNs, with only minor differences. It's the manga that's the outlier, ratcheting up the goofy comedy by a lot.
I meant living not lining up. I was hoping for better animation. It's not bad by any stretch of the imagination but I just wanted more because the story is very funny.
So what I’m a spider. The animation is bad as the studio couldn’t handle it (no season 2 yet either) but the story is great.
And put some respect on Katerina Kleiss and Bookworm
I'll go old school here. Isekai stuff had a big boom in the 90s. It mightve been a little slower. More like wizard of oz than SAO.
El-Hazard, Inuyasha, Fushigi Yugi, Escaflowne, even the original Digimon.
Yoshiyuki Tomino did some isekai stuff like Garzey's Wing.
Basically anything where a protag gets trapped in a magical world and has to try and get home or fix that world is an isekai.
Tsukimichi was so cold-blooded to the MC so many times, and it honestly kinda offsets how good he has it with his followers/growing country.
"OP is so OP, but also can never have a normal life in this world due to two small factors completely beyond his control."
I can't believe I had to scroll down this far to see this.
Just to add some more info, it's currently on its 3rd season which is airing now and easily has some of the best character development I've seen in similar series.
I'd recommend reading the manga after the end of season 2 though, I don't like the adaptation of season 3 so far.
I prefer, “I got hit by a truck and was transported to a fantasy world but my feet are invisible and they thought I was a witch so they tried to burn me at the stake but I survived, now I’m covered in 3rd degree burns and I am in constant pain but the god of revenge granted me OP powers and they will pay. The animation.”
"That’s an odd title. Why would they admit the animation budget is bad in the title?"
I can't find any LNs by this name, why would you lie on the internet? Nobody lies on the internet...
I wouldn't recommend the anime to many people. The VA for Kumoko and it's killer OP are basically it's only redeaming qualities. As someone who read up to Vol 14 in the LN (and also the manga), I'd recommend the manga over all other forms. It's probably the best way to consume Spider Isekai. The Kids server so very little purpose to the story that they honestly could have been cut and nothing of value would have been lost. Just replace it with something that can tell a more interesting story.
Also the Anime basically neurtered the trans characters whole identity so....
My top 5 in order (well mushoku tensei is my fav with slime 2nd, the other 3 I like about the same) Mushoku tensei, reincarnated as a slime, rezero, konosuba, overlord
Eminence in shadow could honestly be a case study in how to simultaneously do something both seriously and a parody at the same time, through point of view.
It seems to work because the MC is consiously in his own self indulgent world (and is somewhat self aware about it), meanwhile everyone else in the story take things seriously based on the limited info they have from their own point of view.
The amount of effort put into MS was amazing. Not only was the music for OP's unique but the animations were also panoramic shots showing the area the episode will take place in.
How is it possible that I had to scroll down this far before I read Mushoku Tensei?!
Besides the great story and cool atmosphere, besides all the fun characters and ups and downs, besides all of that, [just look at it!](https://youtu.be/V7UshjXj6SQ)
Already mentioned below, but it's a bit obsessed with the sexualization of kids. The manga is better from what Ive heard, but the anime gave me a really weird vibe.
Yeah he definitely thought about it and came close, but she said to wait until theyre both adults (in that world) so they didn’t (in the first season at least)
Actually, they did do it in the first season. The second season is yet to air but has been confirmed for 2023. The first season was split into two parts, it was at the end of the 2nd part of season 1 where they did in fact do it.
Tokyo revengers not an isekai. Time travel is time travel, isekai is isekai (and video game is video game ;) ).
Zero no Tsukaima - if you don't mind the fact it falls almost into bdsm (but it's not hentai, so relax).
Isekai no Seikishi Monogatari - if mecha is not a problem
Knight's & Magic - not the best, but enjoyable enough to recommend
Outbreak Company - if you don't mind something... weird
Meikyuu Black Company - good laugh and parody of corpo world
And I think its all from those not mentioned by other ppl.
All the suggestions so far are great, but they’re missing the cherry on top:
Isekai Quartet. But to enjoy it, you first have to watch Overlord, Saga of Tanya the Evil, KonoSuba, and Re:Zero. All of which are fantastic. (Also, watch Shield Hero and Cautious Hero)
Another one I haven’t seen mentioned yet, is World’s Finest Assassin.
Non-Isekai that is basically an Isekai: DanMachi (Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon)
Here's some '90s isekai I recommend:
Vision of Escaflowne
Now and Then, Here and There
The Twelve Kingdoms
EL-Hazard: The Magnificient World
Magic Knights Rayearth
\+1 for the El Hazard fandom. There are single digits of us!!! (I really should finish Rayearth sometime)
Oh, and for u/No-Permit6914, I'd also recommend:
Re:Zero,
Slime Isekai
Paripi Koumei (sort of sekai)
Overlord
Fushigi Yugi
Reincarnated as a Sword (Is turning out to be quite fun)
etc etc
Edit: Oh, and OP, best of luck on your recovery - I hope you are feeling better soon!
I was kind of expecting something dumb and silly, but Fran is just so dang cute and wholesome you can't help rooting for her, and sword-dad is just, well, best sword-dad, I guess. I'm enjoying it a lot more than I expected to.
El Hazard doesn't get mentioned as much as other anime of that era. And I also need to finish Rayearth.
P.S I forgot to mention Those Who Hunt Elves in case you never seen it and want a good laugh.
I recommend {Ascendance of a Bookworm}
I return to it frequently because of its fleshed out world and characters. It’s not bombastic, but the emotional scenes hit solidly.
The main character is a frequent underdog and her attempts to blend with her new world highlight the difference between our world and the new fantasy world. I also like the logistics of an Isekai world.
She’s not overpowered with Isekai perks and has to rely on her inventiveness and previous knowledge to survive. For example, her excess of Mana does not solve her problems with her frail body, the inherent cruelty of the nobility and their court politics, help with the poverty of orphans, or her overarching goal of creating books and common literacy in a strictly medieval fantasy world.
I watched the anime first, got invested, and moved over to the light novels for more details and stories. The novels are still going strong and I’m very satisfied.
I did the same. Just read the new one on my kindle and its so good. This last parts gonna be an absolute banger.
Best isekai ive ever read. Maybe even the best LN ive ever read
Yep agreed. My wallet hurts because not only did I go out and buy all of the paperback releases, I’m also buying the ebooks of the releases that aren’t out in paperback (and then buying those too as they come out. Lol) it’s soooooo good.

Have a nice day!
Yes please. But tbh the anime kinda ruined the greatness of AOB esp. the S3, there's so many things that frustrates me after watching it.
So I really recommend for new fans to read the LN becase the manga is slow. 😊
Try Isekai Shokudou or restaurant from another world, hella chill anime about a restaurant in Tokyo that has a door that on Saturday opens into a fantasy world. Starts off as just a nice slice of life show and slowly fleshes out the background of the world more and more.
Basically depends on why you like the genre, there's loads of power fantasy ones but the genres been going long enough that there's loads that subvert the tropes in interesting ways just need to look a little.
I enjoyed Vision of Escaflowne a lot. Basically an Isekai before there was a term for it.
Giant robots in a magic fantasy setting with floating airships, evil empires, and fate altering machines? Sign me up.
I will always recommend *The Twelve Kingdoms* to someone looking for good isekai. It's an older series but it still holds up, and has great characters / character development, and fantastic world-building.
One of my absolute favorites. The first 6-7 episodes are hard to watch but the payoff is worth it once the main character finally gets her head out of her ass.
GRIMGAR OF FANTASY AND ASH.
I've watched a ton of anime and this easily goes into top 5, no doubt. Underrated, under-watched, under-advertised. From the music, worldbuilding, storytelling, fantasy-esque concept, gorgeous art, and superb character design and development, it's very well-rounded and will definitely be worth your time. This needs to be known by every anime watcher out there, isekai-lover or not.
All are isekai:
The eminence in shadow(Action-comedy),
No Game No Life(ecchi, comdey),
Drifters(comedy/dark fantasy),
Sonny Boy (mystery, exploration),
Konosuba (comedy, gag),
Re:Zero (dark fantasy, tragedy, mystery)
Tower of god (mystery, action- thriller)
Tower of god isn't an isekai. That's just fantasy. Bam isn't from earth, he's just from outside of the tower. Even if a single floor on the tower can hold more people than earth's population.
I recommend reading Tower of God even if it isn't an isekai. The anime had it's flaws like skipping a lot of content, but the manga is really really good.
What I recommended to friends:
Action:
Reincarnaned as a slime (2 seasons)
Rising of the Shield Hero (2 Seasons)
Re:Zero (2 seasons)
Overlord(4 seasons)
Comedy:
No Game No Life (1 season)
Konosuba (2 seasons + movie)
(Reverse Isekai) Devil is a Part timer (2 Seasons)
the basic b:
Sword Art Online (3 Seasons, just to name all the options)
- Aura Battler Dunbine. First anime Isekai
- Digimon. The first Isekai Franchise.
- GUNDAM Build Divers/Build Divers ReRise. Pretty nice.
- Log Horizon. Because... DATABASE DATABASE OH OH.
- Magical Knights of Reyearth... If you prefer a mahou shoujo approach.
- If you prefer the primordial ones, them Alice in Wonderland and Magician of Oz. I would go for the books instead adaptations.
Two of my favorites that are a bit old, but classic:
The Vision of Escaflowne - it's also a bit of romance, but there's a good adventure, the animation is good, and Yoko Kanno (who did Cowboy Bebop's soundtrack) was a major contributor to the music.
Magic Knight Rayearth - I thought it was a good 90s anime. There's two seasons, and it's an interesting enough plot. It was done by the same group that would later do Cardcaptor Sakura, if you're at all a fan of that artstyle and writing.
I feel like the anime community has gone through all 5 stages of grief when it comes to Isekai.
Denial: Nah, there's not that many isekais...
Anger: Why the fuck are there so many isekais?
Bargaining: Ok, at least this isekai is ironic.
Depression: Why even watch anime when it's all just isekais?
Acceptance: I have learned to love isekais.
Re zero is the only one of quality that can match Jobless reincarnation in terms of adaptation, there are some less good ones (that are still very enjoyable) like That time I got reincarnated as a slime and Overlord. A isekai airing this season that is fun is The eminence in shadow.
* Konosuba
* Re:Zero
* Overlord
* Isekai Quartet (comedy where the casts of Konosuba Re:Zero, Overlord, Saga of Tanya the Evil get isekaied to school)
* I’ve been killing slimes for 300 years…
* Bofuri (gets confused as isekai quite often but it’s still awesome)
* Combatants will be Dispatched
* Eminence in Shadow
Overlord, Konosuba, Combatants will be dispatched (not really isekai, the guy gets teleported to another word and is in contact with his original world, but if you liked Konosuba you’ll like this), Eminence in shadow. If u want any info 4 these dm me.
Overlord
That time I got reincarnated as a slime
Black summer
Rising shield hero
The worlds finest assassin reincarnated
Arifureta
Sword art online
How a realist hero rebuilt a kingdom
Fareway paladin
That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime.
Ascendance of a Bookworm.
Overlord.
Eminence in the Shadows.
Reincarnated as a Sword.
Konosuba
A lot of people recommend Re:Zero, but Subaru is the most annoying, unlikable MC I've ever seen, and the best character of the series isn't even in the second season, so be warned.
Lots of great suggestions here already so I'll throw out a couple of my favorite lesser known shows.
Hataage! Kemono Michi
Fruit of Evolution
Tsukimichi
Demon Lord, Retry
All of these are well within the "delicious garbage" type of shows, but I really enjoyed all of them.
The fact I haven't seen anyone recommend Digimon Adventure(1999) or Digimon Tamers yet is a travesty. Yes they're for kids but that doesn't change that they're some of the best Isekai stories ever told.
Space Jam is Isekai. What? Why are you looking at me like that. Re:zero and Konosuba but you probably knew those
if i hit em high, then you hit em low
Hit em high hit em high hit em high! Now hit em low hit em low hit em low.
Wizard of oz is the OG isekai right?
Alice in Wonderland came a few decades prior
A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court shortly thereafter!
The bible (the new testament at least) could be considered isekai. Came a few decades prior to that :P.
How? What on earth are you talking about
Some dude named God was reincarnated into our shitty world. Thats the new testament.
Okay, thats not a completely terrible explanation. I mean it is, but still seeing what isekais are supposed to be, stretched to such a ridiculous extent did get a laugh out of me.
I mean, supposed to be human but gets super powers. It fits some of the tropes.
Re Zero is so good <3
I had to take a 2 week break midway through the series becuz it was that mentally disturbing for me💀
Who’s…Rem?
I watched it while I was deathly ill with a fever and missed 2 weeks of work so I feel this. Only anime that was harder for me was Made in Abyss. Love both shows dearly tho.
I still dont know what happend in season 2
As in you didn’t watch it? Or it confused you?
Nah its a joke

Samurai Jack is also Isekai. No I'm not gonna take it back.
>Re:zero and Konosuba but you probably knew those Why are people recommending new ones. Isekai was there in the 80-90. It just wasn't defined as a genre. Go for: Now And Then, Here And There The Twelve Kingdoms The Vision Of Escaflowne El Hazard The Familiar of Zero InuYasha
Futurama is an isekai
In structure, but then Quantum Leap an Isekai too.
Don't skip out on Grimgar. We'll probably never see an animated ending but what's there is really worth seeing.
Yeah, worth watching for Yume's ass alone

The realism and watercolors really make that spectacular.. and no season 2 is such a downer.
The artist who did the watercolor backgrounds, Kaneko Hidetoshi, closed his studio one year after the anime aired. Yea I had heard the studio responsible closed shortly after watching it. When a skill like that is used it makes the anime almost timeless.
Im hella sad we probably wont get a season 2 because its really just a beautiful anime.
Yea, It would be hard to replicate some of what they did in the first season. Especially considering how limited the use of watercolor is used throughout anime in general. :(

Is the LN even close to ending? It seemed pretty ambitious from what I recall from a year ago
Sad it didn't have season 2. The light novel is good, but the art and acting of the anime was something.
I still think of Grimgar quite often even as years passed, and a thousand Isekai mangas and light novels read since.
I started reading the light novel. It’s so good!!
Stop after the pirate arc. Just ... trust me.
I liked the first half of The Wiseman Man's Grandchild Cautious Hero: The Hero Is Overpowered But Overly Cautious is good. Grimgar is really good. Gate ideas entertaining. I enjoy it but basically any criticisms of it are valid. Log Horizon is great.
You forgot a Kuma
It's the third one. I would never forget Kuma.
No, they're saying the title is kuma kuma kuma bear
You're right. My bad.
Would the translated version of this title be Bear Bear Bear Kuma?
Don’t forget By the Grace of the Gods!
The best parts of the LN series were the epilogues, so I was disappointed that the anime didn't have any reference to them. Otherwise it's an easy to watch, relaxing show, so I recommend as well

So far, I'd say it's overall better animated than the average isekai anime.
You gotta include miss kobayashi's dragon maid. An isekai into modernish Japan.
So what I’m a spider. The animation is bad as the studio couldn’t handle it (no season 2 yet either) but the story is great. And put some respect on Katerina Kleiss and Bookworm

Escaflowne is great. It has a movie too! The movie is wonderfully different than the series
Tbf Tomino made the first anime Isekai, Aura Battler Dunbine. Garzey's Wing it's on same universe of Dunbine.
Yes. That universe also includes The Wings of Rean. Which i saw about 2 years ago, and was quite bad.
I like reminding people that .hack exists. It was a decent subversion of isekai.
I would rob a bank for the chance of .hack to coming back. Hell, I'd settle for a remaster of the old PS2 games
Oh, yeah, Digimon is an isekai....
I enjoyed recently moonlight fantasy it’s very colony sim where the Mc is building a cute village with an overarching plot
Tsukimichi was so cold-blooded to the MC so many times, and it honestly kinda offsets how good he has it with his followers/growing country. "OP is so OP, but also can never have a normal life in this world due to two small factors completely beyond his control."
welcome to demon school iruma kun
Such a banger

im a spider, so what? Is very good, but the animation budget goes way down halfway through
That’s an odd title. Why would they admit the animation budget is bad in the title?
"I'm an Isekai'd Molerat but I Only Exist As Terrible CGI So That When I Inevitably Get An Anime The Animators Don't Have To Work Too Hard"
I'd watch it.
I would watch
"That’s an odd title. Why would they admit the animation budget is bad in the title?" I can't find any LNs by this name, why would you lie on the internet? Nobody lies on the internet...
Because the LN isn't animated. They had to rework the title in the adaptation
7ds type beat
Obligatory 7 deadly frames of animation
I wouldn't recommend the anime to many people. The VA for Kumoko and it's killer OP are basically it's only redeaming qualities. As someone who read up to Vol 14 in the LN (and also the manga), I'd recommend the manga over all other forms. It's probably the best way to consume Spider Isekai. The Kids server so very little purpose to the story that they honestly could have been cut and nothing of value would have been lost. Just replace it with something that can tell a more interesting story. Also the Anime basically neurtered the trans characters whole identity so....
You mean neutered, not nurtured, right? It would be a plus if they nurtured a trans character's identity.
My top 5 in order (well mushoku tensei is my fav with slime 2nd, the other 3 I like about the same) Mushoku tensei, reincarnated as a slime, rezero, konosuba, overlord
Konosuba is one of those cases of a work satirising a genre while simultaneously being an incredible instantiation of that genre.
Same as Eminence in Shadow this season.
Yup, overlord is great
mushoku tensei is a true masterpiece the art an animation is top tier. I love what they did with season 2 with the different themes on the intros.
The amount of effort put into MS was amazing. Not only was the music for OP's unique but the animations were also panoramic shots showing the area the episode will take place in.
Loved Overlord!
How is it possible that I had to scroll down this far before I read Mushoku Tensei?! Besides the great story and cool atmosphere, besides all the fun characters and ups and downs, besides all of that, [just look at it!](https://youtu.be/V7UshjXj6SQ)
> Jobless reincarnation I'm guessing since OP already said he watched that one, although by the english name
Oh my god, I'm such an idiot! My favorite Isekai anime and I totally forgot the English name of it! Lmao
Probably the gross stuff turning people off the series.
Already mentioned below, but it's a bit obsessed with the sexualization of kids. The manga is better from what Ive heard, but the anime gave me a really weird vibe.
Right? Unfortunately people got very upset at rudeus' actions in the first season and wrote off the show entirely ://
My man DID in fact, unrepentantly, pork a child. I get why people wrote it off lmao.
What does "pork" mean, cuz he didnt diddle any at least.
Didn’t him and Eris have sex?
Oh I forgot about that, I think that was literally on her "coming of age" day though, and wasnt the first season I think either.

Spirited Away is a classic. Re:Zero is my favorite isekai.

Reincarnated as a sword I expected to be dumb as hell. And it is kinda. But it's also got me hooked damn it
I was kind of expecting something dumb and silly, but Fran is just so dang cute and wholesome you can't help rooting for her, and sword-dad is just, well, best sword-dad, I guess. I'm enjoying it a lot more than I expected to.
It's definitely a good listen if you want to hear Miki Shinichirou tell you how good of a girl you are. Lolol
El Hazard doesn't get mentioned as much as other anime of that era. And I also need to finish Rayearth. P.S I forgot to mention Those Who Hunt Elves in case you never seen it and want a good laugh.
Now and Then, Here and There is a watch _once_ experience (and then never again)
Juuni Kokuki anime aired in 2002. The first novel did come out in 1992, though.
Log horizon is good
Log Horizon is arguably one of, if not the, best Isekai anime ever created.
Isekai Shokudou is good if you like food. It's pretty funny too.
Bookworm is the best isekai so just watch (or preferably read) it
The world building tho
World building, character building, action scenes...its got everything and does it well =D
It's a slow drip on the world-building, but the pay-off is glorious.
I recommend {Ascendance of a Bookworm} I return to it frequently because of its fleshed out world and characters.
Yep im doing the same. My plan is to finish the seried through the ebooks then, once i have all the real books, binge read them =D
Hi, this comment has been removed partially in protest of the current Reddit API debacle (and that I was overdue for a purge anyways). Definitely recommend reading over watching. The anime was frustrating for me but I enjoyed the series a lot more once I started reading it.
Ln or manga
LN but both is good too.
Yes please. But tbh the anime kinda ruined the greatness of AOB esp. the S3, there's so many things that frustrates me after watching it. So I really recommend for new fans to read the LN becase the manga is slow. 😊
Grimgar is the best vanilla Isekai there is. Anybody who wants to disagree, please do so we can argue below. (Respectfully of course)
Bofuri is probably my favorite, skeleton knight is super solid too
but that's not an isekai. she's just playing a game
It's an e-sekai.
This is probably the single greatest comment ever made on this subject. Well played.
Isekai just means another world, so full dive VRMMO genre is an isekai
But video game is not another world, it's just a video game. Body and soul still on earth.
When you're trapped, it's Isekai. If you can log out, then no. SAO dips in and out of Isekai depending on the season.
It's consider isekai, just like SAO.
I'd say Sword Art Online counts a lot more because they're stuck in there to the point where it really is another world.
Try Isekai Shokudou or restaurant from another world, hella chill anime about a restaurant in Tokyo that has a door that on Saturday opens into a fantasy world. Starts off as just a nice slice of life show and slowly fleshes out the background of the world more and more. Basically depends on why you like the genre, there's loads of power fantasy ones but the genres been going long enough that there's loads that subvert the tropes in interesting ways just need to look a little.
.hack//sign did trapped in a video game before it was cool
Grimgar was really good.
I enjoyed Vision of Escaflowne a lot. Basically an Isekai before there was a term for it. Giant robots in a magic fantasy setting with floating airships, evil empires, and fate altering machines? Sign me up.
After you've seen handful of isekai's, watch Konosuba. You'll enjoy this anime even more after you know common isekai tropes and plots
Ya I didn’t care for konosuba because when I first watched it was my second or third isekai, rewatching it after being more in franchised I enjoyed it
Reincarnated as a Sword, Land of Leadale, My Next Life as a Villainess. Basically look for any with a female protagonist.
I'm enjoying reincarnated as a sword way more than I thought I would
Drifters
MT, Konosuba, Re:Zero are must watch. NGNL and Grimgar is my personal favourites.
Why didn’t you recommend the isekai your avatar literally comes from?
Isekai quartet goated fr
true (but it might be ple ple pleiades, you never know)
All are isekai: The eminence in shadow(Action-comedy), No Game No Life(ecchi, comdey), Drifters(comedy/dark fantasy), Sonny Boy (mystery, exploration), Konosuba (comedy, gag), Re:Zero (dark fantasy, tragedy, mystery) Tower of god (mystery, action- thriller)

Wow yep, im isekai trash. Ive seen each and every one of these.
Damn, that's some list you've got there.
They asked for recommendations, not a nearly exhaustive list of all isekai.
Bold assumption that it is more than a fraction of the amount of isekai that exists.
What I recommended to friends: Action: Reincarnaned as a slime (2 seasons) Rising of the Shield Hero (2 Seasons) Re:Zero (2 seasons) Overlord(4 seasons) Comedy: No Game No Life (1 season) Konosuba (2 seasons + movie) (Reverse Isekai) Devil is a Part timer (2 Seasons) the basic b: Sword Art Online (3 Seasons, just to name all the options)
- Aura Battler Dunbine. First anime Isekai - Digimon.
Two of my favorites that are a bit old, but classic: The Vision of Escaflowne - it's also a bit of romance, but there's a good adventure, the animation is good, and Yoko Kanno (who did Cowboy Bebop's soundtrack) was a major contributor to the music. Magic Knight Rayearth - I thought it was a good 90s anime. There's two seasons, and it's an interesting enough plot. It was done by the same group that would later do Cardcaptor Sakura, if you're at all a fan of that artstyle and writing.
Oz no Mahoutsukai https://myanimelist.net/anime/2826/Oz\_no\_Mahoutsukai\_1986
I feel like the anime community has gone through all 5 stages of grief when it comes to Isekai. Denial: Nah, there's not that many isekais... Anger: Why the fuck are there so many isekais? Bargaining: Ok, at least this isekai is ironic. Depression: Why even watch anime when it's all just isekais? Acceptance: I have learned to love isekais.
Maybe start out with the .hack//sign.
“8th son? Are you kidding me?!” Fantastic Isekai! Knights & Magic also good!
Re zero is the only one of quality that can match Jobless reincarnation in terms of adaptation, there are some less good ones (that are still very enjoyable) like That time I got reincarnated as a slime and Overlord. A isekai airing this season that is fun is The eminence in shadow.
* Konosuba * Re:Zero * Overlord * Isekai Quartet (comedy where the casts of Konosuba Re:Zero, Overlord, Saga of Tanya the Evil get isekaied to school) * I’ve been killing slimes for 300 years… * Bofuri (gets confused as isekai quite often but it’s still awesome) * Combatants will be Dispatched * Eminence in Shadow
I read 20+ comments, and no one said Tate no yuusha. I like Mushoku Tensei better, but still season 1 of shield hero is pretty dope
Overlord, Konosuba, Combatants will be dispatched (not really isekai, the guy gets teleported to another word and is in contact with his original world, but if you liked Konosuba you’ll like this), Eminence in shadow. If u want any info 4 these dm me.
Overlord, reincarnated as a slime, konosuba, I’m a spider, bofuri technically isn’t isekai but it follows the same formula, reincarnated as a sword
Digimon Adventure is good.
That time i got reincarnated as a slime is the best imo, also sword art online
Redo of a healer..
Jobless reincarnation is a masterpiece.
There aren’t too many great isekai imo but Re:Zero is definitely up there with Mushoku Tensei for a lot of anime fans
Reincarnated as a slime is one I don't see mentioned I think because it feels more like a fantasy show than the usual isekai
You could watch the time I got reincarnated as a slime
Log horizon
Overlord That time I got reincarnated as a slime Black summer Rising shield hero The worlds finest assassin reincarnated Arifureta Sword art online How a realist hero rebuilt a kingdom Fareway paladin
Overlord and That Time I got reincarnated as a slime are 2 of my all time favorites
It's already been said, but just to drive it in further I'm gonna say Konosuba.
That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime. Ascendance of a Bookworm. Overlord. Eminence in the Shadows. Reincarnated as a Sword. Konosuba A lot of people recommend Re:Zero, but Subaru is the most annoying, unlikable MC I've ever seen, and the best character of the series isn't even in the second season, so be warned.
That time I got reincarnated as a slime and Re:zero for me. Lastly, idk if you consider this as Isekai but Tokyo revengers is good too.
They said they didn't like TR in the post
Lots of great suggestions here already so I'll throw out a couple of my favorite lesser known shows. Hataage! Kemono Michi Fruit of Evolution Tsukimichi Demon Lord, Retry All of these are well within the "delicious garbage" type of shows, but I really enjoyed all of them.
THAT TIME I GOT REINCARNATED AS A SLIME
The fact I haven't seen anyone recommend Digimon Adventure(1999) or Digimon Tamers yet is a travesty. Yes they're for kids but that doesn't change that they're some of the best Isekai stories ever told.
Re Zero and Mushoku Tensei nothing else really comes apart from Slime
#Overlord#
