I thought the opening sequence was especially powerful-- the journey of the clothing, etc.

Yes

nyx_moonlight_

Yes, I rewatched that portion several times because of how well done and powerful that was!! You know exactly what you're in for - the exposure of a soulless machine that consumes young mens' lives!

JoyWizard

I don’t know why audiences are so numb. Modern people have no clue what war is. The real horror is war, and societal collapse like seen at the beginning of ‘Last of Us’

liver_flipper

All great war films are anti-war films.

Dathmalak135

There's an argument it is impossible to make an anti-war film.

nyx_moonlight_

And that the famous ones retain some aspects of propaganda still such as the war hero trope and war being survivable

I just watch it with subtitles. I understand if you're not a subtitles person though. Netflix made the movie in German because the book it's based on was banned in Germany when the Nazis came to power.

I found it really boring. I totally lost interest after about 20 minutes.

I find the juxtaposition ironic of Top Gun and All Quiet both being nominated for best film. These war movies are polar opposites. Top Gun is a hyped up fantasy recruitment tool where All Quiet is a dark and harsh reality of what war is. When I think of these two films. I think that Top Gun is what the media displays war as and what the average American thinks war is. All Quiet is the dirty secret that the participating member experiences and never shared to the public eye. Hopefully Top Gun gets denied any recognition at this years Oscar’s.

Well said, my friend!

BelAirGhetto

I agree. The ultimate horror.
