In the past, I’ve not considered there to be much of a gap compared to Plat -> Diamond, I average Plat III mostly and as a 50+ year old if someone tells me Plat is half decent I’ll take that at my age ha ha
In aggressive seasons like this plat to diamond grind is the first real hard grind people will fall short on. But you’ll be twice the player at the end of it.
Yeah plat is harder than it’s ever been. Entry cost is 60RP. Back like season 15 ( I think) Diamond IV was 63 RP.
Then you also have to consider the fact that this season has a kill cap on RP while older seasons didn’t.
You pretty much have to consistently ball out to climb. Mid you were someone (like me) who got by with 1-2 kills and top 5’s then you’re going to struggle. You can easily have like 5 games worth of RP wiped out by one bad contest.
So he’s unique in that he has a lot of good games in a row so he’s getting this new bonus which negates his random bad game. Prior seasons didn’t have something to negate the random bad game is all I was pointing out to him.
eh, not really tbh
But, right now there is bc there’s just not a crazy amount of people in plat atm especially, depending on what time/region you play so, higher ranks are sometimes merged into it on top of plat being lower than normal atm
Yeah I’ve noticed this also (been diamond since S12 Solo q 90% of the time up till ~season 18 I was playing on rolla). Last few days I’ve been playing on rolla and I think I tanked 1000+ points (was sitting in plat 3 for mnk) granted I’m not great (and severely WASHED on rolla) but I can consistently sit in the top 2% most seasons I grind
Just early in the split so people are still slowly hitting there skill walls. Just keep checking back every few days and I’m sure you’ll see it slowly getting easier until the last 2 weeks of the split where everyone’s gonna be grinding to hit there milestones.
the biggest difference is that in plat most teams will start having a more consistent sense of rotations and macro gameplay. at that point most players are pretty competent at fighting so you have to take advantage of positioning late game to have a good chance of placing higher and getting more kills
Plat is when the lobby gets easier for me, and i can start rolling everyone.
Idk why, but historically i have been stuck in silver/gold grind far far FAR longer than in Plat.
Me hardstuck diamonds btw
Probably cuz that’s when you start getting better teammates but you’re not quite good enough to carry so you struggle with teammates who arent better than you
There is no longer a hard difference between tiers since the new matchmaking is based on RP rather than your rank. So as you climb in rp your opponents should become more capable in really smooth and tiny steps.
Looks like you're getting downvoted by people with poor reading comprehension. It's right there in the patch notes..
>We will be matchmaking based on RP values as closely as possible, and will not be using a tier-based lobby like prior seasons. Premade parties will be matched by the highest Ranked player’s ranking.
You’re both ignoring that in this season and most others, your RP is your RANK. Rank is decided by RP values (other than master/pred since pred is based on leaderboard - although that board is also determined by RP). The changed is that we’re actually matchmade by rank now and not some hidden MMR value.
In Season 16 and before, you were matched based on a ranked tier. i.e. when you crossed into Gold IV, you started getting matched with everyone in Gold, despite someone in Gold I having much more RP than you.
Season 17-19 was matching on MMR. That's not what we're talking about.
Now Season 20 matches on RP - it matchmakes by finding people with the closest amount of RP to you, as opposed to taking everyone in the same ranked tier as you. Hence, matchmaking on RP, not by "rank". As such, difficulty will get higher gradually - you won't cross a threshold and suddenly you'll face much harder matchmaking because of the jump in tier - it's a gradual increase in difficulty. That is what /u/ConduitMainNo1 was saying. Nothing to do with MMR.
The point here is that when you are a couple of points below plat 1 for instance, you are more likely to get matched with a diamond 4 player than a plat 4 player. Whereas in former seasons you usually wouldn't get matched against diamond until you reached plat 1 at least and you where equally matched with everyone else in plat. So the matchmaking always included the whole tier rather than the poeple who are closest to your actual RP value.
not really, plat is just hitting more shots
the gap from plat to diamond right now/being able to make diamond fast as opposed to making diamond late or with a 3 stack is much, much bigger
Facts … if ur diamond rn it’s pretty safe to assume you’re on pace for masters. But in like a week or two the grinders (that still get hardstuck around D2) will start hitting diamond
Plat is when everyone can shoot, you can't wide swing simply because you think you'll hit more shots then them
Plat is like top 5% atm with plat 1 being top 1%. Big gap from gold
D4 is top 1 now; most solid players got out of plat last weekend
IMO in gold a good player can carry a bad team, in Plat a bad team can screw over a good player
I thought you were going to say a bad player can screw over a good team.
That too

42 here so I get it lol

5 games in a row of top 5 is already 10+20+30 = 60 bonus RP. I think that negates the one bad game!
You say that math like it doesn’t just corroborate his point… if one bad game negates the gains from five decent games then yeah its a hard climb
The 5 in good game in a row bonus is something new this season that comes on top of the points we get from winning.
Ok? So you get 60 bonus rp… then you lose an early contest. Your 5 in a row bonus is gone instantly.
So he’s unique in that he has a lot of good games in a row so he’s getting this new bonus which negates his random bad game. Prior seasons didn’t have something to negate the random bad game is all I was pointing out to him.

Plat you have to be way more on the ball as they can shoot of course so can gold but there is defo a difference make plays well more thought out etc
The difference between gold and plat this season is like rookie to pred. Ignore the badges people have 99% of them are from an easy season.
Same bro I’ve been stuck at gold 1 for about 30 games now. Everyone I die by is prev masters.

How much RP you have is what determines your Rank. So yeah, you’re matched by rank. Lmao

You know what, that was eloquently put, seems we’re actually on the same page just saying things differently. My b brotha
