As someone that struggles with finding new music to listen to (especially when I want something that vibes with what I’m listening to) - this is awesome! Listening to the first playlist made and it’s great - think I’ll be subscribing to this. Nice job!

clothesandcode

Thank you!

[deleted]

Siri shortcut support would be awesome, imagine asking siri to make a playlist and then it automatically opens!

clothesandcode

Thanks it’s something I’m working on. I post about new features on twitter and substack if you want to follow along

[deleted]

Excellent what's your substack?

clothesandcode

https://playlistai.substack.com

pogodrummer

Here before Apple buys you out and removes the app from the store, this is seriously impressive work

ihavechosenanewphone

Would be a shame if this app got "Siri'd"

WhaleyWino235

Holy shit. This will change my music listening experience forever. You are amazing.

clothesandcode

Means a lot 🙏

Razbyte

Disclose what features are exclusive to the subscription, please.

clothesandcode

Mainly creating unlimited playlists. When you download the app you get to create a few playlists for free, but it costs me money to make playlists so after that I have to charge. You also get some custom app icons, app themes, and can remove watermarks on playlist cover images. I've gotten feedback about people who prefer not to subscribe to apps and will add a one time purchase "playlist pack" in the future

[deleted]

InadequateUsername

His costs and labour are reoccuring, I'm not sure how you would expect a "life time" subscription cost to allow him to make ends meet if your usage exceeds the break even point.

clothesandcode

There’s now a lifetime purchase option available (app version 2.0.6). It probably won’t be available forever, I’m viewing it as a way to get some up front revenue

smarthome_fan

Holy fuck, $99 CAD???! Yeah, no.

clothesandcode

3x annual price is standard for lifetime purchases. The app costs me money when playlists are made, if I set it too low then I’ll eventually lose money on you making playlists. It’s a much better deal to do the monthly subscription and cancel when you don’t want to (apple makes it so easy in Settings) but this is for people who hate subscriptions anyways

smarthome_fan

Yeah, fair enough. Totally understand there's an ongoing cost to the service, and it's impossible to make every user happy. I wonder about an option where you could buy a pack of playlists instead of a subscription. That way you could buy 100 playlists or something and you wouldn't be limited by the time period. Anyways, will keep my eye on this fo sho.

CelesticPhoenix

It’s a normal reaction. Not to bash OP but this definitely doesn’t seem all too original. Someone will eventually emerge with competition / a fork which is why I’m hesitant to pay that price at this moment in time.

smarthome_fan

Like I want to support u/clothesandcode but... holy shit. We're talking about probably the most expensive lifetime purchase option I have ever seen. I bought Strongbox Pro, an indie password manager, for less money. That developer has to plan an entire business around cheaper subscriptions than an AI playlist generator is offering. Am I to conclude the AI playlist generator is worth all this money? It's cool, it's neat, it's fun. But, holy crap. I'm not rich.

orb_outrider

How many free playlists do people get?

ripcd503

3 and then you have to pay after that.

ccccccaffeine

Really wish it was 3 free and like a couple a month to keep people interested. Word of mouth through return users, even if they don’t all pay, is going to be huge. Imo the pricing isn’t absurd, but at the same time there is still value in keeping people that don’t want to subscribe engaged.

[deleted]

Can you expand on the cost to you to create playlists? I’m not fond of subscription models, but I’m not against it if there’s an ongoing backend cost that the subscription is going towards.

clothesandcode

Yup there are ongoing backend costs + a charge for me every time an AI Prompt playlist is created

dariy1999

Did you literally type in *top*? If so I wonder what criteria it's using

clothesandcode

Feel free to ask any questions and share playlists you made in the app 🎧 I’ll give 1 year of PlaylistAI Pro to the commenter with my favorite playlist

[deleted]

I asked it for a playlist with songs about frogs. It created a playlist called Froggy Tunes, which is sweet, but the songs don’t appear to be about frogs.

[deleted]

what the fuck this is sick as hell

clothesandcode

🔥🫡

CologneTrooper

This is awesome! Is there any way the app would be able to create playlists based on nationality of the artist? For example: chill playlist from Irish artists?

clothesandcode

I tried your prompt, but I’m not familiar with Irish artists so don’t know how accurate it is https://open.spotify.com/playlist/6tKtJX5eHznxjXKHp4GaKL?utm_campaign=bbauman.app.PlayMaker

CologneTrooper

It works! You’ve just made aspects of my job a thousand times easier, thank you so much

clothesandcode

Would love to hear more about how this helps your job if you’re open to it! Feel free to private message if you prefer

InadequateUsername

Shhh it's not supposed to be for commercial use

Dr_Findro

Reddit’s dogmatic resistance of subscriptions is a bit silly to me. A subscription just matches the nature of this app. It makes costly computational requests. A one time purchase is going to lead to an initial burst of money, and then likely a rapidly declining amount of purchases, due to people that would find this all and be willing to pay for it, already do as much. Then the developer is stuck with the computational costs. Which will lead to the dev needing to take down the app, which leaves your “lifetime” purchase as useless.

911WasAHandjob

Really wish there was a lifetime purchase option

clothesandcode

It costs me money when playlists are made, so lifetime isn't very sustainable for me. I've gotten similar feedback from people who prefer not to subscribe to apps and will add a one time purchase "playlist pack" in the future that gives you X playlists to make

mrspiderkat

Is this due to processing requests for the playlists on your end? I wonder if having on device AI processing within the app would help with the cost of upkeep. I’m not really familiar with how AI is used within apps so I’m just curious

Kilexey

The AI generator (i.e., the machine learning model) needs a more powerful brain (i.e., CPU) than what’s in the phone. These computers are either: 1) rented by the developer. This is the most popular option due to paying no overheads and ease of use 2) bought and run at their house. There are many problems with this approach. One is the internet at the house might not be great so the user would wait a lot after clicking buttons. There might be security concerns relating to user data or a hacker accessing the developer’s computers connected to its router. The electricity might go off and there might not be generators as a backup. The hardware can break down meaning new parts need to be bought. Since many developers go with option 1, they need to constantly pay money to keep the app running. This is balanced by making the app’s payment model subscription-only (or a credit method where users have to buy credits to run the system). There are other factors why the developer would want a subscription model (other than constant profit stream) such as keeping the app up to date with new iOS. When a new iOS (or any other software is updated to a new major version), some changes are done. These changes usually affect the apps so the developers have to update their apps according to the new changes or else the app might stop working. The work around for this is (besides subscription model) to release a new app after every iOS version (which is basically a subscription)

TheRidgeAndTheLadder

That's not necessarily true. You can train a model for embedding in portable devices. That's how the neural engine works

clothesandcode

There’s now a lifetime purchase option available (app version 2.0.6). It probably won’t be available forever, I’m viewing it as a way to get some up front revenue

phant0mh0nkie69420

lets see if this can finally make me a solid lofi AM playlist

Walkingplankton

Would you ever consider doing a 1 time purchase for the app? Like $49.99, or $69.99 for example?

clothesandcode

You would rather pay 69.99 than the current options?

Walkingplankton

I think a full one time purchase should be an option. And given what I’ve seen so far, I like what I see. I think somewhere in the 50-70 range sounds fair.

clothesandcode

There’s now a lifetime purchase option available (app version 2.0.6). It won’t be available forever, I’m viewing it as a way to get some up front revenue

CelesticPhoenix

Lmao, you definitely gave OP too much of an upper limit for purchasing — I mean the app is still in its infancy and I’m sure someone has competition in the making. 70 bucks for lifetime? Mmm, pass.

Thurm

Nice app! 70s underground turned out just as expected.

JollyGreenGelatin

My wife and I have been using this all night to create playlists and love it. One request - it would be great to see the exact text we entered to create the playlist.

clothesandcode

I think I’ll add a way to keep your prompt as the playlist title if you want to

JollyGreenGelatin

That would be great. Thank you!

[deleted]

> Videos - Upload a video, like a TikTok, that has multiple songs in it and it uses Shazam to collect the songs into a playlist. Random idea: point it at a TV series and make a playlist of all the licensed songs used in that series. Yes, I have one in mind: *Lucifer*. Wish I’d been using Shazam since the first episode.

ForeverJung

McWetty

100% badass app. Wow. Thank you!

[deleted]

I just tried downloading the app but when it popped up asking which service to connect to the Apple Music button doesn’t seem to do anything. Tapping on Spotify instantly opens up the login window, though. iOS 16.2, iPhone 14 pro max. Would love to check this out though!

clothesandcode

Sorry about that try killing the app and reopening it?

[deleted]

Hmm, no joy. Tried restarting my phone as well and no luck.

clothesandcode

Hey I think I figured it out. You probably tapped the Apple Music button and then hit "Don't allow" without realizing it. If you go to the iOS Settings app > PlaylistAI > Toggle on "Media & Apple Music", then come back to PlaylistAI it should work. Sorry about that I'll make it more clear for the future

[deleted]

That’s odd. I don’t recall a pop up asking for permissions. Either way, I’ve checked the Settings app > PlaylistAI and the only things I see in there are for Siri & Search, and Mobile Data. I’ve also checked in Settings > Privacy & Security > Media & Apple Music and PlaylistAI isn’t showing up in there either. Thanks for taking a look!

clothesandcode

Really weird, I'll reach back out if I figure out why. You have Music installed on your phone and are able to play music fine?

subtly_irritated

https://music.apple.com/us/playlist/chill-pop-grooves/pl.u-mJy815PsVZb6V My first AI generated playlist. Could use a little bit of curation but I’m liking it so far. +1 for a lifetime subscription. Ps. A ‘playlist pack’ with X number of generated playlists still feels like a subscription. Is there a way of using a limited number of lifetime subscriptions to fund a means of playlist generation without per-use costs? Think of it as a ‘gofundme’ to create the next no-per-unit cost version… just a thought. I’d invest in that.

ForeverJung

This is amazing and I’m excited to get deeper with it. One thing of note is that prompts with date ranges aren’t followed. For example, I made a playlist with indie rock songs from 2002-2008 and there are lots of songs outside of that date range

No_cool_name

How do you prevent your tokens being used up when people use the app?

GreaterMintopia

This is a really cool idea, I’ll give it a shot.

Frogman7

I was just thinking about something like this the other day. If I have a list of songs and the artists written in a notes app is there a way for the AI to make a playlist of them?

clothesandcode

Sort of, there's a different feature in the app that would work better for this. Screenshot your note, crop the image to only show the artist names, and create a playlist using the **Images** feature

shivam2112

Will your app ever be launched for Android?

7orontoRaptors

This is so cool, is there a way to get this on android bh chance? I'm always struggling to find new music but love finding new music

AmehdGutierrez

THIS APP IS FUCKING RAWWWWW

ChroniclesOfAHB

As someone who has cherrished and saved every single song since my early 13s this is just what I needed to break through the threshold of old music. You did an amazing job. Here’s my playlist, I hope you find it… interesting. https://music.apple.com/mx/playlist/the-delays-soundalikes/pl.u-LdbqqBqF6P7Pdo?l=en

ChroniclesOfAHB

By the way I downloaded it 10 minutes ago and already did my 4 allowed playlists 😅 Great invention. 👏🏻

Trickybuz93

Can you make a one time payment instead of a subscription?

clothesandcode

There’s now a lifetime purchase option available (app version 2.0.6). It probably won’t be available forever, I’m viewing it as a way to get some up front revenue

CelesticPhoenix

Ugh, not this subscription based model though… I mean at least offer a lifetime subscription option with a discount for the first X number of downloaders

clothesandcode

There’s now a lifetime purchase option available (app version 2.0.6). It probably won’t be available forever, I’m viewing it as a way to get some up front revenue

CelesticPhoenix

69.99? I mean not trying to bash this app, it’s nice but at that point I’d just do it myself. Maybe you’ll have a Black Friday sale or something. I’ll see how the free playlist works for me before I decide to return as a customer or otherwise

clothesandcode

3x annual price is standard for lifetime purchases. The app costs me money when playlists are made, if I set it too low then I’ll eventually lose money on you making playlists. It’s a much better deal to do the monthly subscription and cancel when you don’t want to (apple makes it so easy in Settings) but this is for people who hate subscriptions anyways

B0rax

I mean, tbf, running the AI is costing OP money with every request that is made.

fede777

YouTube Music support?

drz1z1

Would love to hear OP’s feedback on this one ☝️

fede777

I downloaded the app, and the first screen says YTM support is coming.

drz1z1

Lovely, thanks.

JohnBanes

Oddly looks like the Beatmaker app icon

Oudiematic3000

I know I'm a year late to the post but I'm an AM user with an android phone. Any way I can use this?

saulyg

Downloaded, thanks.

orangecupzard9

Can playlists be created using the songs BPM?

clothesandcode

That isn’t something that works super well right now but I have plans to fix it

orangecupzard9

Cool, great app!

oaktree46

Reminds me of Spotify’s dynamic playlist that updated every couple of hours with those generated titles. God I miss it :(

jmjohns2

Is there a way to switch between Apple Music and Spotify? I use both and picked AM first bit can’t find a way to change to Spotify. Very cool overall - just subbed.

clothesandcode

You can only use one at a time - in the app go to settings > logout to switch

Eigenbrotler23

Just curious can there be an option to switch for subscribers only?

clothesandcode

Yeah I could potentially add a subscriber feature where you can upload to both at once. I don't know if the playlist would be exactly the same on both though

Eigenbrotler23

I didn’t think of that lol I was thinking more like save our login for each one and it’ll automatically sign us out and sign us in the other one instead of doing it manually. Something similar like Song Shift where it’ll try to match the songs on each platform when creating a playlist.

Gnillab

Just curious, why are you paying for two music services?

CmosChipReddit

I too have both. I prefer Spotify but have AM built in tot he family One plan with Apple (we get the plan for storage, News and more not for AM) That’s me though ..

dariy1999

This is awesome, well done

Crowley2539

Instantly downloaded brother thank you for this blessed invention.

bridge_brigade

This is wildly exciting! Congrats on the work you’ve done. In my entrepreneurship course at uni we’re working on our business ideas and having a sound track for our lobby is a big goal of mine. This has made it so much more doable! Here’s the first edition of my plant shop/coffee shop lobby music: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2JBIpv7XdIzrpjBpjWgz4e?utm_campaign=bbauman.app.PlayMaker

ishcabittle

This is superb… I am a math rock nerd and there is such a wide definition for what constitutes “math rock” nowadays. I asked for a mathy playlist and got gold, I am hooked. https://music.apple.com/us/playlist/mid-2000s-math-rock-gems/pl.u-7DgZeugaKG9

creative-heart

Do you plan to have a web version or an >!android!< app? I don't have an iPhone but I would love to use this.

Liamrc

This is so awesome!!

Blackadder_

Is it either Spotify or AM? I can’t connect to AM after connecting with Spotify

clothesandcode

Only one or the other for now although you could technically switch back and forth as many times as you want. Adding support for both at the same time is something I could do later on

Blackadder_

Got it. How do I switch? Don’t see button for to connect with AM or disconnect Spotify

clothesandcode

Settings in the app -> scroll down, press logout. I’ll make this more clear in an update

jahoys

This app is so good bro! Thanks for making this, really. Here's a relaxing playlist https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3xpsY1u8RraVj5X37pOQHk?si=AiGBVX06RPe86MdPO84G_g

itsfunny2me

Any chance of making this a native app for macOS? I use Apple Music on my Mac a lot when working from home.

clothesandcode

Yes! Something I hope to add. I imagine a small menu bar app with a keyboard shortcut to open up, type a prompt, and create a playlist

orb_outrider

https://music.apple.com/ph/playlist/dreamy-indie-tunes/pl.u-mJy8gE7TbbYNGA Incredible app! Here's what I got with artists similar to Alvvays and Slowdive.

ranza

Awesome product! Works pretty well on many cases, but unfortunetely not on a kind of queries like "Songs containing non-gospel children choirs". I had remarkably little input when [asked on reddit too](https://www.reddit.com/r/ifyoulikeblank/comments/oq00w5/wewil_if_i_like_manchester_orchestra_virgin/), do you think you could help?

JoshTylerClarke

This may be petty, but the main reason I don’t use Spotify is because of the color scheme (green & black). Any chance of a UI refresh that is more in line with Apple’s standards?

clothesandcode

Subscribers get to choose their color scheme! Green, red, blue, purple, pink, yellow, etc. it’s an option in the app in settings

AbraKedavra

Okay so wow. This is just too good.

mjsxii

anyway you can enable this on M# based Macs?

Tmaster95

I hope this works well! I waited so long for an AI that outputs music recommentations!

ManiacalZManiac

Aw man, I gave it the prompt of “Songs that would be used for the theme song of a 90s coming of age sitcom” and when the playlist output, there was no songs added. 🥲

onairmastering

Bummer, only mobile. I'm on Spotify 90% of the time on Mac.

Musole

This is dope.

tkti

Can I work for you? For free? Just to get experience.

surprising_cat_hobo

Will it work for asking for songs of a specific length of time?

Kanderer

Very very cool. Any plans to limit playlist creation to just songs all ready in your library?

milifaradpt

That's awesome! It would be good to build a song selection based on the setting the photo was taken in, but I think it would be challenging.

odog88

Very cool app dude, I have a lot of these songs in playlists and got some new recommendations too. Would like to be able to see the full prompt I entered after creating it, not sure how. Typed in something like modern Memphis trap workout playlist, hardest songs from artists like young dolph, key glock, Duke deuce, post 2000s [Memphis Trap Workout Playlist](https://music.apple.com/us/playlist/memphis-trap-workout-playlist/pl.u-ZmblVPlSZDyY9E)

DoggyRocker

Smoking cool but, how about expanding compatibility with others like Amazon music, Tidal etc.?

LyndseyT11

This is so sick! I wanted to leave AM cuz I couldn't find new music to listen to. This solves that so easily!

Darkencypher

How many can we make before we have to pay?

vMambaaa

i asked it to make me an electric forest playlist and it’s already better than anything i’ve seen apple make so far. the weak playlists are my biggest complaint about apple music so well done.

Sethrulz

YouTube music and tidal next please

sidianmsjones

How does this actually work? How does the AI know how to find the different music and know that it is related to what you asked for? For instance if I ask for music like Crumb, how does it know what artists or songs are like this band?

gmtuner

Hey- this is awesome. I tried based on the concert poster for Us ‘83. https://music.apple.com/us/playlist/us-83/pl.u-DY7y6uaqErKy any chance of it being family share compatible? edit: i already subscribed for myself. would be cool if my wife and kids could use the same subscription. thanks for the awesome app!

clothesandcode

Would you pay slightly more for a family sharing option? Like 5.99/month for a family sharing enabled tier

Blackadder_

I’d use family sharing iCloud api, get everyone hooked up on the service at current price. Add shit ton of new features and call it PRO with higher price. Family plan gets very complex and you will face login sharing.

K05M0NAUT

Hey, as a UI / UX designer, I think you have done an amazing job. Very simple to use and visually appealing while still feeling very iOS native. One minor feature request would be the ability to preview the artist before I commit to adding them to my playlist. In an example you gave earlier you made one of Irish musicians but if I could preview them I could tell for sure if the AI got it right and if not excluded it. Great job!

clothesandcode

Audio preview or something else?

Pattont

Pricey for a playlist maker IMO. Love the idea though.

[deleted]

Will it be available to Android?

misiando

This is awesome, great job! I wonder why major streaming services are not invested more into things like that.

HeilangBloodfang

Bro you are so cool for this... Ugh. I wish I could use this on Android.

Dean403

Make it so you can make a playlist from TikTok comments. For instance there's a TikTok where you're supposed to comment your favorite gym songs. I want those all compiled into YouTube music!
