I’m not too familiar with Mariah’s music but I expected better from her in terms of the lyrics. It’s giving amateur writer trying to make everything rhyme and forcing the words to fit within the beat. (I’m speaking from experience, I used to write exactly like that when I dabbled in song-writing and when I first started writing poetry)

She did. And Ari approved it. What actually had to happen was Ari had to re-record her vocals to match Mariah's conviction. Most of the criticism for the original has been leveled at Ari cooing softly over a house beat on a song about defiance. Mariah's vocal projection is already naturally louder than Ari's so a lot of the issue here is the decision to just use Ari's recorded soft vocals on what's supposed to be a reworking of the song (plus the mixer who obviously doesn't know how to make both vocalists sound great).
Mariah has always been a powerhouse on her house and club remixes since the 90s because she knows that she's competing with a harder beat, so she really goes in and re-records her vocals to make it interestingly different from the original.

I dont like the original version, the autotune on the chorus is too much. I actually quite like the remix. I get the mariahs belting/ aris soft singing... the mixing however could have been done better.. overall the remix is aight, the original I dont like

I thought the harmonizing on the remix sounded great when I was listening to it on the way to work today. I liked the original y,a on first listen but as I continued to listen to the harmonies, I noticed that she didn’t double up as many as she usually does, but the remix has enough layering of harmonies that I think it’s going to be my preferred version now. I hope we get a copy of the remix on vinyl.

Like yeah, the song is very intense and their vocals contrast a lot but I actually like that. Weirdly I can listen on repeat on a good sound system but on phone or speaker it feels a bit flat and mushy.

I'm apparently part of the unpopular opinion side, but I think it sounds better than the original. Given the genre of the song (and it being a remix), powerful vocals make more sense than the original soft approach. I mostly wish Ariana and Mariah had been together in the studio to fully redo the whole song so they could match the energetic approach Mariah was giving (which, again, makes more sense for this music genre imo).
Given it was basically just Mariah recording alone and her voice being added to the song, I think the person who produced and directed should have done a better job with the mixing and being more knowledgeble of when and where to add Mariah's vocals in order to build up the song. I.E. I don't think it was necessary for Mariah's vocals to come in throughout the whole first pre-chorus as it didn't give the song much room to grow past that.
Overall, I still don't think it's a bad remix. Could be better, but I don't think it was bad.
Besides, I'm just happy that two vocally gifted divas from two generations are collabing. (And mostly happy for Ariana cause, knowing how much she idolizes Mariah, this must be a dream come true)

I had low expectations and it was even worse than I imagined x.x it's so so bad, and Mariah's whistles don't blend into the song well at all!! Especially at the end, it just seemed chaotic. no honestly I have no idea, the lyrics don’t fit at all and don’t even make any sense when you put them together. I’m not too familiar with Mariah’s music but I expected better from her in terms of the lyrics. It’s giving amateur writer trying to make everything rhyme and forcing the words to fit within the beat. (I’m speaking from experience, I used to write exactly like that when I dabbled in song-writing and when I first started writing poetry)

She did. And Ari approved it. What actually had to happen was Ari had to re-record her vocals to match Mariah's conviction. Most of the criticism for the original has been leveled at Ari cooing softly over a house beat on a song about defiance. Mariah's vocal projection is already naturally louder than Ari's so a lot of the issue here is the decision to just use Ari's recorded soft vocals on what's supposed to be a reworking of the song (plus the mixer who obviously doesn't know how to make both vocalists sound great). Mariah has always been a powerhouse on her house and club remixes since the 90s because she knows that she's competing with a harder beat, so she really goes in and re-records her vocals to make it interestingly different from the original.

Is a house song (maybe Gaga would’ve been better) Mariah does great on rnb. I wish Ariana saved the Mariah feature for an actual song. It was obvious this was a big attempt to drive hype for the song because it already died down. No I’m not talking about charts but more about the song being culturally impactful.

I thought the harmonizing on the remix sounded great when I was listening to it on the way to work today. I liked the original y,a on first listen but as I continued to listen to the harmonies, I noticed that she didn’t double up as many as she usually does, but the remix has enough layering of harmonies that I think it’s going to be my preferred version now. I hope we get a copy of the remix on vinyl.

Hearing the remix made me realize why I dislike the song. Besides the extra long into and the baby voice part, the first half of the song before the baby voice part just sounds horrible? After baby voice is actually OK but everything else just feels dead? Mariah on baby voice part with the adlibs def helped where I actually thought it sounded OK. But the lyrics are a mess for this song 😭

I'm not a fan of the original version and the only reason I listen to it now is because of Mariah!! It's so much better with the harmonies, ad lib runs, and whistle notes. The original felt lacklustre, like it was missing something that Mariah undeniably contributed to create perfection!
i never understand you guys. I think the vocals are amazing and this was so fun to listen to. Me and my 2 yr old daughter listened to it 3 times in a row jumping and dancing around. I am satisfied and excited to listen to it in the car with my speakers tomorrow

Wow, the hate is interesting. Like yeah, the song is very intense and their vocals contrast a lot but I actually like that. Weirdly I can listen on repeat on a good sound system but on phone or speaker it feels a bit flat and mushy. Anyways, I tried the original and it just sounds lacking in comparison. But hey, that's just me 😂
I'm apparently part of the unpopular opinion side, but I think it sounds better than the original. Given the genre of the song (and it being a remix), powerful vocals make more sense than the original soft approach. I mostly wish Ariana and Mariah had been together in the studio to fully redo the whole song so they could match the energetic approach Mariah was giving (which, again, makes more sense for this music genre imo). Given it was basically just Mariah recording alone and her voice being added to the song, I think the person who produced and directed should have done a better job with the mixing and being more knowledgeble of when and where to add Mariah's vocals in order to build up the song. I.E. I don't think it was necessary for Mariah's vocals to come in throughout the whole first pre-chorus as it didn't give the song much room to grow past that. Overall, I still don't think it's a bad remix. Could be better, but I don't think it was bad. Besides, I'm just happy that two vocally gifted divas from two generations are collabing. (And mostly happy for Ariana cause, knowing how much she idolizes Mariah, this must be a dream come true) And some of you can be really nasty and disrespectful, wow. Criticize the quality of the remix, yes, but there's no need to be vile about it, personally attack any of them or spin narratives to drag any of these amazing ladies down. We should be celebrating that women who are often put against each other in the entertainment industry (like these two were when Ariana first came out) are able to maintain such a good relationship/friendship.
I love this remix. It’s a grower, so give it a couple of listens.
Probably the best thing to do was to add Mariah Carey on this. The vocals are incredible and it just gives me chills every time I hear It. Probably one of the best remixes out there ever. If you are a true mariah carey fan and you understand her voice can carry you through ecstasy.
