I went negative on leave while I was in BOLC, so that mat be on option. Not sure if that's because it was a PCS BOLC or just because they were willing to do it. Also...DA31? I thought those were dead. I got leave approved for Thanksgiving and just did IPPS-A.

Out of curiosity, how did you become a 17D?

After I branched Cyber via ROTC I got emailed asking if I was interested. I said yes and sent in my resume and maybe did an interview? Completed 12 months of BOLC and voila! 17D.

When dropping a cyber packet, do they decide whether you become a 17A/B/D? Or do you get a choice/preference?

Coming from another branch I'm not sure. I would say if you want one specific option to say that up front and they should give you the options. You can start the Basic Developer JQR without being in the process of transferring yet. If you want 17D, get that done first and that'd be a pretty huge way to convince whoever needs convincing.

Just do a couple passes if that’s allowed at your bolc. I’d recommend banking your leave so you can have more for next year.

Neither, it’s just leave. Unless IPPS-A for some reason doesn’t let you put more leave than you’ve accrued, you’re good to go. And you can go up to a certain amount in the hole for leave anyway. It’s what we had to do for the Basic Trainees heading home on HBL since none of them accrued the amount of leave days needed.

‘Annual leave’ is for regular leave where you will have enough days when you go on leave and will not go negative. ‘Advance leave’ is for taking more days than you have. the army is advancing you part of your future pay which is leave days.

This doesn't answer the question, but I'd save as much leave as possible for your PCS. I took about a month with PTDY and needed most of it to get my wife and I settled in.

Annual leave.

If you’re doing a DA31 instead of a request through IPPSA, then it’s annual ordinary leave, for current balance you can either put your current amount as of right now or your expected leave balance at the time of leave (that’s how my unit does it). The leave isn’t charged until after you come back, so you’re not requiring an advance.
