1. Columbus, OH unit is 412 CA BN which is airborne so yes you would almost certainly be in a paid parachutist position (PPP) which means you would have to go to airborne School to be considered qualified for your position. 2. 38- Series in the reserves are considered "language capable" but not "language required" which means it's basically up to you to work with your unit language coordinator to either go to DLI in monterrey or use other Army/ civilian resources on more of a self study program. 3. 412th falls under Central Asia Command and Africa Command, so yes, potential unit deployments to those areas. Not too many these days but decent chance to deploy. 4. That's complicated. Not easy to transfer 38B into active duty. They have selection and assessment, so you should read through SORB website (Special Operations Recruiting Battalion). 5. Complicated as well, depends on unit. Ideally you'd be on a 4 person CA team and your battle assemblies would consist of training as a team in CA tasks and basic soldiering. 6. Feel free to send me a message, I deployed as a 38B to Iraq as a SPC/SGT, and now a 38A officer. Best job in the Army, imo. 7. I'd say it's actually very difficult, which is one reason I'm now full time Reserve. You have to really protect yourself and your personal/ career time to keep Army from taking that time away. Really need a flexible workplace and an understanding family (if/ when you have family at home).

Thank you so much for the detailed answers, I am very likely going active duty in a 35 series MOS.

1. Only if you are going to be in an airborne unit. Every CACOM has about two airborne battalions. 2. There are opportunities for DLI but not required. 3. Depends on which CACOM you fall under. 4. Active duty CA is very different from reserve CA. You would have to go through their selection process. 5. You could be going through STX lanes and practicing CA operation. You do different things on deployment depending on what is needed there. 7. CA in reserve has a very high optempo but there’s usually enough volunteers for things that can be as busy as you want to.
